Re: Monday chat

  • @cocobellaf, I'm jealous of your farmers market haul!

@lapeanut1018, your bridal shower looks like it was so much fun!

@dignity100, hugs. I'm sorry your parents are acting like that. I understand being the second-choice sibling, too, but that doesn't make it fun when it's happening.

Um ... Friday night I was at home? What the hell did I do? Sad part is I was sober. I don't think it was productive - my neck was pretty sore all weekend from the fender bender at noon.

Saturday I had to work a 9-hour day, but I think I got all the samples mixed!!! And there was much rejoicing.

Sunday I relaxed because I couldn't move for whatever weird-ass reason. Not the neck thing, just worn out.

And this morning I woke up 16 minutes before the staff meeting, so I'm having a rollicking great start to the week. And it's pouring so I'll probably get to mop the basement tonight. Blech.
  • @allusive007 - I'm going to look at a Toyota RAV and a couple of different Jeeps. BF and I want something we can take camping since both of our cars aren't great for that.

  • @bethsmiles good luck with the new job today

@Dignity100 I'm so sorry about your parents, hopefully they do attend.

    Anniversary

  • @Bethsmiles - that's awesome! I loved the RAV, but ended up with a Nissan Rogue because of price. A red Jeep Wrangler with a black soft top has always been a dream car for me. Make sure you post pics whatever you get!
  • @Dignity100 - I'm so sorry that your partents are doing this :( Hugs.

@LaPeanut1018 - Your weekends sounds so fun! I'm super  jealous you got to go riding!

Friday I didn't do much. I hung out with BF and played video games while having an "attention starved" cat try to interrupt. It's hard to play video games when a cat keeps bumping the controller and stuff. Everyone but BF was gone for the weekend, so she was especially pushed. I still love her anyway.

Saturday I was woken up at 9:05 am with a text from a coworker asking if I could cover her 9-1 shift. I was supposed to work from 1-5 anyway, so I told her yes. I was just annoyed because she texted me after the shift started asking if I could cover for her. We were super busy all day and made more than triple our goal, so that was good. Apparently lots of people had baby showers on Saturday! I started to get a runny nose by the end of my shift but brushed it off. However, it kept getting worse and worse as the night went on, to the point where I couldn't breath through my nose and had a really sore throat. I went to bed early and didn't get to see BF because he had to work until 9:30.

Sunday I woke up and couldn't even talk because my throat hurt so bad. I went to the doc-in-the-box and guess what! I have microplasma, aka early walking pneumonia. I'm also super contagious until Wednesday. So now I'm taking antibiotics. Luckily they gave me a steroid shot so I feel much better today, but they said it wouldn't last. I slept most of the day yesterday.

Because I'm super contagious and work in a baby store, I can't go to work. I'm rushing to find someone to cover my shifts for the next two days, but so far no dice. I feel really bad that I can't go to work because I don't physically feel bad (thanks steroid shot!) but it would be dangerous for me to go to work. Also, now my boss has a family emergency but can't leave because I haven't found someone to cover yet.

  • Eek, sorry for the post and run! Trying to get caught up on emails and also handle anything that came through this morning. All I have left are emails from Monday and Tuesday, so it's been a productive morning. :)

@allusive007 I've heard that the Now Sapphire resort is beautiful! I remember TK sent an email out a few months ago about a promo they were running for weddings, so I looked up the resort just because. It was really pretty! You guys are going to have so much fun. We stayed in Cancun at the Fiesta Americana Condesa. It was really nice and had great food and drinks. Even though it was in the hotel zone, it was pretty quiet.

@bethsmiles Yay on the new job and new car! That's so exciting!

@minskat30 Man, the previous owners sound curmudgeonly. I bet the neighbors are glad you guys are there now. I guess I could go to Urgent Care for the infection. I hadn't really thought of it. My ENT made it sound like he wanted me to come in for every infection so he could keep track of everything, but if he's gone until Thursday and it gets worse... then he can't fault me for going somewhere else. Thanks for the idea!

@peaseblossom55 That's exciting! The kitchen seems to be coming along really quickly. Are you guys doing anything else after the back splash is finished?

  • Flea killer is dry which means I can go in my house! I already vacuumed the whole house as instructed by the human flea killer so obviously the treatment has been dry for some time.

Also, I live in Florida. It was like 96-115 degrees today (probably closer to 96). My H left the house at 8 am with the a/c off because it has to be off for flea killing apparently. My house is so good at temperature regulation (which is hilarious because the insulation isn't up to current code - we will be fixing this eventually) that the house was only 81 when I got home. Our awesome trane a/c unit has it back to 76 already an hour later. Our a/c unit is likely the most awesome part of our house.

@Dignity100 Hopefully your parents do come. My grandmother picks favorites too, which has transferred to her grandchildren (AKA my family are the black sheep); so I completely understand those feelings. *hugs*

@CocoBellaF I love farmer's markets. Your haul sounds amazing. I only got peaches this time, but plan on stocking up this weekend.

@LaPeanut1018 Mango mimosas sound delicious! I've only had peach or orange, mango is now on my list.

My weekend wasn't that exciting. Spent most of the weekend laying on the couch resting my leg. Seeing an orthopedist Wednesday to make sure I didn't tear anything.

Sunday got a ton of peaches from a friend so made a peach cobbler last night. There was one piece left this morning, clearly my family enjoyed it. Probably going to make another one later this week.

After 8 long months, closing may actually be happening on Friday. Excited, but trying to contain the excitement until the keys are in my hand. Once that happens, the remodeling starts. House was built in 1930, so it needs a lot of updating. I can't wait to rip up the carpets and the awful wallpaper and paneling.

  • First day of the new job!! It was a lot like the evenings I've been working for the last several weeks, just more hours. Still banging my head against a database problem. Access =/= Excel and I'm trying to make Access = Excel. Maybe more VBA code will help. Oh well.
  • Just wanted to say - Thanks for all the support!!!  I know when it comes down to it, the day is about FI and me.  I just feel bad because FI and I did a tiny DW in order to help my mom and her anxiety out.  FI's mom felt bad that she was not going to be able to have her family there and it's just I'm somewhat afraid of her having those 'if your parents weren't going to come anyway, we could have done this back home with all of FI's aunts, uncles and cousins'.  FI promised he'd talk to his mom so she wouldn't make me feel worse than I already do (she doesn't mean to make those around her feel bad, she's just a rather direct person and comes off wrong).

I've read what you guys wrote but was just in too crummy of a mood to respond.  Today should be better :o)

  • @Blue & White @speakeasy14 Peaches are in season and they are SO cheap in our grocery stores right now. I love this time of year...peaches from outside the GA/SC area just aren't the same. Call me a snob I guess. :)

@Dignity100 I'm so sorry your mom is giving you such a hard time with the wedding. It sounds like you've really bent a lot to try and accommodate her and she isn't doing anything to help you out. Your day will still be special and wonderful because it's the day you and your FI get married!

  • @lapeanut1018 if I crash your wedding, will peaches still be in season??

    Not really :(

But apples will be!! We are having apple and brie on brioche for one of our apps and the apples are from the Georgia mountains!

  • Boooooo. I need a damn new job so I can be off weekends and thus have time to drive to Georgia to eat apples and peaches.

  • VBA code rocks - I made the reports I needed to! I feel kind of like Adam Savage when he caught the chicken on the duct tape island - anyone got a gif for me?

  • LaPeanut1018 Oh you definitely can be a snob about peaches! Haha I'm from Pennsylvania, but peaches are my favorite so I always stock up from the farmer's markets. And that apple & brie on brioche sounds amazing! Now I can't wait to go apple picking!
