FB: Would this be très tacky?

I've been on the hunt for wedding jewelry and haven't had any luck finding anything. Either I love it and it's out of my budget or I hate it. I've checked Etsy, Preownedweddingdresses.com, and Tradesy. I've even looked into RTR, but after shipping and insurance the price skyrockets.

I rarely post wedding-related things on FB, but I'm tempted to ask if any brides are selling their wedding jewelry. Would you eye roll a, "If any brides are selling their wedding jewelry, I'm looking for drop earrings, a hair comb, and a bracelet. Please PM me if you're interested" FB post?

Re: FB: Would this be très tacky?

  • I wouldn't side eye that at all!
  • I wouldn't side-eye that post unless it was a daily occurrence.  :)

Have you checked the TK classifieds?

  • Is there any particular style or materials you're looking for? Lord only knows how much stuff I have hanging around in my jewelry boxes.

  • No, I wouldn't side eye that.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • As long as you aren't posting repeatedly with crap like, " I STILL need earrings for the wedding!!"

Nothing fancy or necessarily high quality, but Charming Charlie has some seriously cute stuff. I grabbed a bracelet from there last minute because I left mine at home two states away. It was pretty and $8. People asked me where I got it all night. Someone also asked me if it was passed down through my family.

  • I don't think that's tacky at all. Have you checked Overstock Jeweler?
  • I wouldn't side-eye that on FB. People might be interested in letting you "rent" or borrow stuff, too, if you are not averse to that. I assume you've tried Etsy?

I have heard really good things about Charming Charlie, although I have never been to a location. I think there's one in NJ but as far as I know there's no NYC location. (Full disclosure, I have a family member who works for them...I will probably ask her to "style" me some suggestions once I get a little closer, ha).

Bummer! Yeah, I run in every time I need a cute pair of earrings or random necklace. Most of their stuff is $25 or less and pretty damn cute. They do sell a limited amount of stuff online now (I think that's within the past year or so). CLICK!

  • @AprilH81, I have scoured TK's Classifieds and haven't had much luck, but I'll keep checking.

@CookiePusher, I want drop earrings at least 1.5" long. Here are a few styles I like (no pearls or gold):

The bracelet needs to have a clasp (no bangles) and be spah-kly.

@manateehugger, with the exception of announcing our engagement & a "Date seems like the perfect day to get married" post, I've never posted anything wedding-related. I have checked Charming Charlie, but couldn't find quite what I was looking for with the exception of a potential hair comb. Thanks for suggesting, though! (And BTW, I am fairly obsessed with your signature GIF.)

Bummer, ElcaB. Maybe department stores? Good luck with your search!!

ETA: And I'm obsessed with my sig too. I burst out laughing the first time I saw it. @SheSoCold introduced me to a site called calmingmanatee.com (and it is ridiculous) and since then manatees crack me up.

  • I don't think its tacky at all, I just think its kind of pointless. I think if people want to sell their bridal jewelery they will go on craigslist, ebay, or post on facebook. I don't think you will get many people who haven been wanting to see but have just been waiting for someone to ask/remind them.

  • I don't know what your budget is, but Macy's would definitely have drop earrings like the ones you've posted. When my sister got married I bought a matching bracelet and drop earrings set, Givenchy brand, and don't recall spending more than $40 or so. Now I wear that set any time I need to get really dressed up.

This. You could think of it as your "something borrowed" (if you're following that tradition).

  • I don't think it's tacky but I bet you'll have better luck on here. While this sounds awful, check a Claire's clearance store at an outlet mall. You'll find post-prom finds. I met a friend at a local outlet mall not long ago and found of a ton of stuff (I'd offer to share but I didn't end up buying anything).

Have you checked Carolee jewelry? Google it. She might have what you're looking for. They sell online and have really expensive looking pieces for about 40 dollars or less.

edit: yay I got autocorrect to cooperate with me!

  • I found my jewelry at TJ Maxx. Was not expecting it but they just happened to have exactly what I wanted! I got the full set for like $45

  • Forever 21. I'm telling you, some of my favorite stuff came from there and I always get compliments.

  • Have you stalked on friend's wedding photos on FB to see what they have? I did that with a few friends and I messaged one girl asking where she got her veil because I thought it was stunning. I was secretly hoping she would offer to lend it to me, and she did! It ended up not matching my dress (white vs ivory) but it would have been a $250 item for free. So you could try that with private messages to people who has anything in photos that interests you.

  • Another option is to sign up for emails for a particular designer you like and just hope they go on sale. I got my wedding earrings from a Kate Spade flash sale and they were less than $30.

My wedding earrings were almost like the third pic. Amazon for 22 dollars! My comb was a gift from my hair dresser, but it was only 9.99.

The almost exact earrings were 99.00 at my bridal salon, and I felt so good getting them for about a fourth of the price.

  • I found my Mariell's jewelry on Amazon for a fraction of the price.

I got my earrings, necklace, and bracelet all from Amazon.
