Chit Chat

I am lusting after my Kitchenaid.

My grandmother so generously got me a Kitchenaid and gave it to me at my shower on Sunday. It is now sitting on my counter in all it's glory and begging me to get on with it before the wedding. I am trying so hard to stay strong, but that is one sexy mixer! Ugh!

Here is the color I got--I think it is called pistachio:

So since I am not supposed to use it yet, I am dreaming of all the things I want to do once the wedding is over with. Does anyone have one and do you have any of the attachments? I really want to get the grinder and make my own sausage. Anyone have any luck with that? Help me resist!!!!

Re: I am lusting after my Kitchenaid.

  • Oh man, so hard to resist! I put all our shower gifts in the basement so they don't tempt me every day. I want those new sheets on the bed RIGHT NOW DAMMIT!

I just have the regular paddle mixer and the whisk, but I superwant the meat grinder and pasta roller. The whisk annoys me because it's really noisy.

  • I think its fine to use it as long as you are prepared to give a new one back to your grandmom in case you don't marry.

I LOVE the new beater that wipes the sides of the bowl as it mixes.  I can get cakes in the oven a lot faster now!  I also have the vegetable shredding attachment.  It makes mashed potatoes for big crowds so much easier!  And my H loves it for small crowds too, since he doesn't slice things as fast as I do!

I will be purchasing the pasta attachment soon, since H is on a fresh pasta kick lately.

  • H's parents got me one for the wedding and I loveeee it. I have just the basics and the grinder attachment (H's families are huge meat eaters and consider it a must). I've been making all sorts of bread with the mixer lately so I so want the grain mill attachment. I was looking at the new beater; nice to know it works well!

  • I don't have any of the attachments yet.  I'm thinking of making pizza dough for some homemade pizza on Friday.  I made brownies with a marshmallow frosting that were amazing with the mixer.

I made it for a co-workers birthday a few weeks ago, he said it tasted like a devil dog almost.  I registered for the paddle that scrapes the edges but never got it, it may be worth it though.

My dad got me one for Christmas 2 years ago and I'm obsessed with it. I have the glass bowl and it is great for making sure everything on the edges and at the bottom are mixed. I do want a metal bowl so that things stay warm better.

I also want the meat grinder to make sausage when we process our pigs and ground beef and deer burgers. So many options.

I'm also lusting after the veggie shredded because I hate cutting vegetables.

  • Oh man now I want to crank that puppy up even more! What is this glorious scrapper thingy that everyone keeps mentioning?! I must know!

  • I got FI one for Christmas last year (she got me a Kureg), she loves it. I do not use it for fear of breaking it. We've registered for some the attachements because I just got...whatever came in the box.
  • Ugh I feel you. Mine is still in the box, because I know I won't be able to resist using it if it's on the counter. But that baby blue is calling to me....

  • I was given one for Christmas a few years ago. I have the basic attachments plus the veggie shredder, the fettuccine pasta maker as well as the other pasta attachment for penne, elbow, etc. I'll be honest, I've used the pasta attachments maybe twice and the shredder maybe a dozen times. But I do a lot of baking so the basic mixer and beaters do get used often.

I have a white hand-me-down from H's grandma. Last night I doubled a recipe and it did not fit. At all. I've been lusting over the bigger bowl-lift ones for years but our 40 year old one will not die. :(

EDITED because KitchenAid is white. Not while.

  • I don't have one. I don't think I'd ever use it. But I like all of the pretty colours!!

  • @inkdancer, That was my second color of choice when my grandma was doing the 21 questions on what I want in a mixer!

I don't have one, nor am I in a rush to go get one. We had an older one growing up (a hand-me-down), and I hated the damn thing. I do all my cooking and baking by touch/feel/taste. Like, I can FEEL as I'm whisking batter together or stirring cookie dough when it is done or if it needs more of anything. I would honestly probably use it just for some of the attachments because it would be a space-saving option over having each of the other appliances separately.

If I just happen to use it for some cupcakes for a dinner party tonight and clean it REALLY well and promise to not call off the wedding, do you think anyone will notice?

  • I have the Pro 600. It's waaaaaaay more mixer than I need, but it was a smokin' deal that I just couldn't resist. It's not a pretty color, though...just plain ol' silver. My favorite thing to make? Blue Moon Cupcakes. mmmmmmmm.

I told FI when she was looking at registering for the attachements we needed the one for making ice cream. It was the one thing I cared about. She was all "Oh look a dough hook" I'm like whatever ICE CREAM focus woman ICE CREAM.
  • Mine is just plain white. I'm jelly of all the colors.

I don't have the ice cream attachment but I DO have the Cuisinart ice cream maker and it's AMAZING. Ice cream in under half an hour.

  • I don't have a Kitchenaid mixer and I love this thread.

True story, my friend helped her friends move. While she was in their kitchen admiring their Kitchenaid mixer, her friend came in and gave her the mixer. The friend never used it and it was taking up counter space. The friends who moved got married a few months later and received another mixer as a gift. I volunteered to help them move if they ever needed to move again. Their wedding mixer is still in the box unused after two years.

  • We had registered for one, but FMIL ended up giving us hers because she doesn't use it anymore.  Ours is just white, but I LOVE it!

Mostly because it can drink wine while the mixer does all the work. (Prior to this, we didn't even have an electric mixer)

  • Oh also, mine came with burnished aluminum standard attachments. I have crazy hard water so I went on amazon and got the white enamel ones on the cheap. It was a good choice.

Same here! Hard water drives me insane. I feel like I should get the white enamel ones now.
