I am lusting after my Kitchenaid.

Re: I am lusting after my Kitchenaid.

  • I don't have one. I don't think I'd ever use it. But I like all of the pretty colours!!
I don't have one, nor am I in a rush to go get one. We had an older one growing up (a hand-me-down), and I hated the damn thing. I do all my cooking and baking by touch/feel/taste. Like, I can FEEL as I'm whisking batter together or stirring cookie dough when it is done or if it needs more of anything. I would honestly probably use it just for some of the attachments because it would be a space-saving option over having each of the other appliances separately.
Yeah, I just don't bake.  Well not entirely true.  I'm thinking of making cookies this afternoon to clear out some space in the freezer.  I've got 2 tubs of cookie dough I need to get rid of.

Oh also, mine came with burnished aluminum standard attachments. I have crazy hard water so I went on amazon and got the white enamel ones on the cheap. It was a good choice.
Same here! Hard water drives me insane. I feel like I should get the white enamel ones now.
    You will not regret it!

I don't bake a lot either (I can make chocolate chips cookies from scratch, that's it), or cook really in general. We wouldn't have one if FI didn't use it.

  • You ladies have just motivated me to pull out the cookie dough from the freezer and make cookies. Chocolate chip macadamia it is. DH will be happy when he comes home, if there are any left.

QFT. The enamel ones are fantastic.

This is ours. Our kitchen has no real cohesive theme other then fun happy colors. And this is a fun happy color!
That's the color that we registered for! If no one ends up purchasing it for us, I'm just going to buy as a Christmast present to myself.
  • I have the apple green one. I'm on mobile so no pictures.

  • Where do you ladies get your attachments. I got my mom one for Christmas and I want her to have some attachments for it. She hinted that she wanted the ice cream maker. She saw the prices online and refused to allow me to buy them. But I'm all like, whatever mom I'm getting it.

  • @jakeia0122, Target has a lot of the attachments. You can also order online. Most department stores like Macy's carry lots of attachments, too.

  • Target, Amazon, department stores, kitchenaid.com - anywhere that sells the mixer itself tends to sell most of the attachments.

I was given one for Christmas a few years ago. I have the basic attachments plus the veggie shredder, the fettuccine pasta maker as well as the other pasta attachment for penne, elbow, etc. I'll be honest, I've used the pasta attachments maybe twice and the shredder maybe a dozen times. But I do a lot of baking so the basic mixer and beaters do get used often.
I've had my Kitchenaid for 18 years now and I still love it!  Thankfully it was a Christmas gift from my 1st FI, so when I came to my senses and called off the wedding I got to keep the Kitchenaid as my get on with my life present.  Similar to @jenbaer16 I have the pasta and shredding attachments but they don't get used often.  For small chopping jobs I just do everything by hand for larger jobs I pull out the food processor.  The mixer blade that scrapes the side is fantastic - no more unincorporated dry ingredients in the divot at the bottom of the bowl anymore.

If you are a serious baker I would highly recommend that you get an extra bowl and snap on bowl lids.  It saves so much time not having to wash out the bowl in between batches and or if you are making two different things and one batter has to chill before baking just pop a lid on the bowl throw it in the fridge and start on the next batter - :-)

  • All this marvelous mixer talk is making my willpower cave. Please don't judge me. I am making cupcakes tonight. I HAVE NO REGRETS!

  • @jakeia0112 - Do you have a Bed Bath and Beyond nearby? They carry a lot of the attachments and they also frequently mail out 20% off single item coupons (historically they don't care about the expiration date on the coupon and if you ask nicely they will generally let you use more than one coupon per visit). So if you have the coupons you could use one on each item you purchase or at least the big ticket items. One of my former employees registered for one with a bunch of accessories and with the funds from the office pool and my coupons we were able to get the exact mixer and attachments she wanted at more than a $100 less than it was listed for on her Macy's registry.

  • I love my Cuisinart Ice Cream maker.  I think the machine is cheaper than the Kitchen Aid attachment.  I have been keeping an eye on pricing for Macy's, Amazon, and CHEFS.com for the Kitchen Aid attachments.

I have a white Kitchenaid, but it's one of the more heavy duty ones with lift up bowl, instead of the tilt head.  Mine is a hand me down and we keep switching our mixers around the family.  My mom had a kitchenaid for about 20 years before she decided she wanted a new, bigger one.  So she gave my grandma her kitchenaid.  My grandma was as giddy as a schoolgirl the first time she made meringue!  She always made Lemon merigue pie, but only had a hand mixer, so the egg whites didn't beat and froth as much.  Her pies doubled in height afterwards!

Then while living in an apartment during college, my grandpop got me a kitchenaid for Christmas.  When I moved to my brother's house after college, the mixer ended up there.  When my brother & SIL married, SIL left her mixer at her mom's house after she moved in.  And I left my mixer there when I moved back home to my parents' house after the wedding, so I had my mom's mixer.  Then when I moved out, my mom gave me her mixer and she got another new one for herself.  I think she did the same thing when my sister moved out too.

  • I am so excited to use the KitchenAid mixer I got at my shower.  It's just the silver one, but I also got the slicer, grinder, and sausage stuffer attachments for it.  I am soooo excited to make my own sausage after the wedding.  I already have a ton of ideas for the different flavors I want to try.  Now all I need is the casing, which I am sure I will be able to find in town somewhere.  My mom has the pasta attachment and I get to borrow it as long as I let her borrow the slicer.

I don't have a Kitchenaid mixer and I love this thread.

True story, my friend helped her friends move. While she was in their kitchen admiring their Kitchenaid mixer, her friend came in and gave her the mixer. The friend never used it and it was taking up counter space. The friends who moved got married a few months later and received another mixer as a gift. I volunteered to help them move if they ever needed to move again. Their wedding mixer is still in the box unused after two years.

This is a crime against all things kitchen. That poor abandoned mixer. It must feel so unloved.
Tell me about it.  I am hoping that I can convince them to sell me the mixer cheap by promising them copious amounts of baked goods.

This is mine. I got the pasta maker attachment for Christmas and I make a lot of spaghetti when the weather is cooler. I got the ice cream attachment and the Gourmet attachment kit (slicer, shredder, meat grinder and sausage stuffer) as wedding gifts. I love the ice cream maker, but I don't have a ton of freezer space for the bowl so I can't make ice cream too often (probably a good thing!). I've used the shredder and slicer and they are fine. I never seem to have time to go to the butcher shop to get meat so I can use the grinder.

  • @ladymilil is right about the space for the ice cream bowl. We have a freezer chest in the basement where I keep mine when I plan to use it. If we didn't have that, ice cream prep would be significantly more complicated.

I want the pasta attachments SO BAD.

  • I have a beautiful sleek black Kitchenaid, but we are in a spat right now. I was putting on the paddle to make brownies when I bumped the switch, turning it on. One trip to Urgicare later, I had a sweet splint for my dislocated finger. I learned that my model does not have the safety feature to keep it from turning on without being locked down, and my husband learned not to plug in the mixer without telling me. I still love my Kitchenaid and believe we will get through this rough spot.

  • Mine is the dark cobalt blue. DH (then fiance) saw how excited I was to register for it, so he bought it for me for Christmas last year. :) Can't wait to get into a house so I can have room for it in the kitchen...
  • The mixer is the one thing I am absolutely LUSTING after on our registry.... This thread just made me go look at BB&B at all the fun add ons they have!

  • I am thoroughly jealous of all you ladies who already have them!  I have one on the registry, but I don't know if I will be able to resist the temptation to buy it for myself first.  I think it will revolutionize my holiday baking experience!

  • I have a gray commercial grade I got for Xmas from an ex a few years ago. It's in storage while FI finishes another kitchen project. I want it out badly...

I registered for the meat grinder and ice cream attachment. I'd register for the pasta if I didn't already have my gramma's old Atlas.

  • My mom has I think the Pro 600. It's one of the professional ones in black with the crank-up bowl. I have an ancient ivory tilt-head that my best friend's mom gave me when she upgraded. I actually prefer the tilt-head ones. I just have the basic three beaters that come with it.

Growing up, my mom had the cheese/carrot grater (the only attachment I've used) and it was not that great. Sure, you can get the grating done fast, but It's a pain in the butt to clean, and you're not supposed to put it in the dishwasher (and with all the angles and corners, it's tough for a dishwasher to get it all the way clean.) And I'm one of those people who would rather clean a toilet than wash dishes.

I have this color too!  I love it!  I haven't put it to use yet.  It was on my registry and no one bought it.  A few weeks after my shower my mom saw it on QVC for an awesome price with a bunch of extra accessories.  Can't wait to put it to good use.  Christmas cookies will a breeze.
