Oh, parents...

The fam & I were at a community festival in SO's hometown last night. We went and watched the 'Figure 8' race, which for those of you don't know involves racing modified cars on a super muddy track in a Figure 8 pattern which sometimes ends up with cars coming out a little crunchier than they came in. There were a lot of kids picking up mud that had been flung into the crowd and throwing it back at the drivers who had gotten stuck in the mud or on the wall.

One of the parents close to the kids (not her kids) said something to them and asked them to stop throwing mud at the drivers.

A lady sitting in the back said "Don't worry, I'll tell them, they're my kids." and then mumbled the word "bitch" under her breath.

Really, lady? You won't correct your children for throwing mud at another human being but then you call the person who stuck up for that person a bitch? And I know you're all surprised...but she never told the kids to stop throwing mud.

I turned around and looked at SO's son and said "Thank you for being a decent human being and not throwing mud at people."

It's times like that when I'm happy to get someone in charge. If Mom going to tell her children when they're doing the wrong thing then perhaps it's time for Mom to take them home.
  • @banana468‌ You're still here?!? Hope you're feeling okay! OP, sorry to thread jack. You're sweet to compliment children who behave.

Thanks! It's the OP who complimented the behaving kids but I'll happily do the same. My own 3 yo has her moments but I try to be quick to let her know what isn't OK.

Feeling OK so far. He's hanging low and I'm not doing any deep knee bends anytime soon but so far today is normal!
  • I was sitting in an office with the door open on a nice spring day when globs of mud were thrown through the door!  I ran out and saw three kids who had been throwing it.  I grabbed the little one and called the police.  The two older brothers ran home and got Dad.  Dad had to pay for repainting the office to avoid vandalism charges (not the first ones).
I hope that lady has deep pockets to pay for future lawyer fees.
