Serving style

Does the venue dictate the style of food you serve or how the food is served? Meaning a very rustic venue and having food served in martini glasses? Does that make sense? I've tasted mashed potatoes with braised short ribs and it was served in a martini glass. Tia

  • Nah, I think it'd be fine.

If you had paper plates at a fancy schmancy banquet hall, however, that'd be a little weird.

  • Nope for cocktail hr we had the choice of butler passed or stationed and we are doing both, and for dinner entrees we had the choice of plated or buffet.

As for how they come out, if they are in a martini glass vs in a bowl on a plate and so forth, I think that would be specific to the caterer but it wouldn't hurt to ask if you had a specific desire.

  • I think at a super ritzy venue, I'd be surprised by serve-yourself type of stations. But at a rustic venue, I think either are fine. You posted pics of your venue a while ago and based on that and your menu, I think you can get away with either.

This. I think the food can be fancier than the venue, but not vice versa. Guests care about food, not what the place looks like. If I saw a barbecue buffet on paper plates in a super ritzy venue, I'd know exactly how you prioritized your budget, and knew it WASN'T hosting your guests that got top billing. Rustic/basic/inexpensive/low-key venue and delicious food, like we're the Fancy Feast cat eating out of a crystal bowl? Go for it.

  • I think that's a great idea, I have been to way to many rustic weddings with food served on paper plates with plastic cutlery and you can't cut through the food without slicing your plate, or the cutlery breaks into your food. I guess the worst situation is something breaking, but that can happen anywhere regardless of venue.
  • If it's just a rustic venue, but you're having a glamorous wedding, then I think potatoes in martini glasses are fine. But if you're having an overall rustic theme, I think the martini glasses would look out of place.
