Another Envelope Question

Okay this may be silly, but I'm seriously confused.

I ordered samples of 5.25 by 7.25 envelopes in Colbalt from cards and pockets. I can write on them perfectly in silver, but when my invitation is all put together, they are a little tight (I'm doing a pocket-fold invitation). I can put the invite in, but it is somewhat difficult to get out.

I found these "outer envelopes only" that are only 2 cents more per envelope and they are 5.5 x 7.5. I thought maybe they wouldn't be as tight, but it says "Not intended to be used as an alone mailing envelope with 5x7 cards. Use the A7 5 1/4 x 7 1/4 standard envelope for single envelope mailing."

Why does it say this? Can I use them as mailing envelopes without an inner envelope? I feel like it just gives a little more room.  I mean, what is the worst that can happen? Is this a dumb question?

Re: Another Envelope Question

  • Are the envelopes thin, perhaps? My invitations had a bright design on the back (I did flat cards) that showed through if I only used the outer envelope.

Ooo. Maybe? I have no design, so I'd probably still be able to use them. The color of the pocketfold is the same of the envelope.

  • Can you order just one envelope (or a small pack) to test it out?

Problem is they have minimum packs of 10, so it adds cost and time before getting them. I know my invites don't go out for a while (sometime in Oct if I remember?) but I need time to address them because I'm traveling for work in late Sept/Oct.

  • I think they may allow you to order samples?

Yes but still have time factor.

  • I used the A7 because it costs more to mail the larger envelopes. My mom looked it up on USPS. She wanted to be able to use regular stamps. Just a thought.

If you go this route, make sure the envelope is also no more than 1/4" thick or else you will be charged the higher rate anyway.

  • We ordered from cards and pockets and I'm almost done putting mine all together.

Which pocket did you order? We did the Retangolo kits -with no outer envelope and our invites are fitting just fine. We have an invite, glued to a matting glued to the Retangolo trifold, and then two inserts and an RSVP envelope in the side pocket. All of those made the assembled invites thicker - but they still fit in the envelopes easily.

And for those talking about postage - we have a standard envelope - but they are over an oz - so will be more than just a stamp for postage! Be sure to get your envelopes weighed fully assembled!
  • We did the premium 5x7 and it was hard to fit in without anything in it. Then I put in some paper to imitate the invite and it was still hard to put in (clearly).

Of course I will weigh when fully done.

  • Sometimes the pocket takes the place of the inner envelope. Are you sure the pocket fold is 5x7, not 5.25x7.25?
