I'm getting married this month. STRESS!

Gah! I had mentioned to FMIL that my friend Andy would be doing a reading at the wedding. Andy and I have been friends since high school (so 20 years) and Andy and my FI have become very close friends. He seemed like the perfect choice. I asked him and he said yes. Yesterday morning I get a text from FMIL: Just so you know, Nancy (FI's step-sister) is really good at public speaking. Maybe you should ask her to do the reading instead. You know, in case Andy has a problem doing it. Huh? 1. I already asked Andy. 2. I never mentioned Andy having a problem doing the reading. In fact, public speaking is a huge part of Andy's job. 3. FI and his step-sister are not that close. They only became step-siblings while they were already adults, so it's not like they grew up together. I'm just hoping she didn't already say something to Nancy, because she would totally do something like that, not realizing what a huge problem it could become. RSVP date was Friday. I still have 14 cards not sent back yet. My venue wanted me to have RSVPs back WAY too early. I basically was like, "Yeah, OK" and put a much later RSVP date than they wanted. So of course the venue is hounding me and I've got to make a bunch of phone calls. Some of the RSVPs are from people that I know are coming. Just send them back! Pick an entree! Jeez. I just found shoes that I love more than my shoes I have already purchased. And I want to buy them SO BAD. However, they 3/4" higher than my current shoes. I have no idea how I'm going to sleep for the next 25 days. I'm so freaking excited, even with all of this stress.

  • Shit. How could I forget this??? FFIL is not coming to the wedding. He says it's because of pain in his legs because of his diabetes. He doesn't take care of himself at all. FI is sad. He was holding out hope that he'd come.

    I'm sorry lady. :(

I'm right there in the crunch with you. Got a lot done over the weekend, but realized this morning that I have to either find a place to download or convert all the songs I picked for the procession, because I had found them all on YouTube. Aaaaand track down and iPod to use for the ceremony because I don't want to have my phone gone that whole time.

ETA and I'm leaving for a girls' weekend on Friday morning, so I have essentially 5 days to get everything done before my flowers show up and all my time gets devoted to centerpieces. Ack!

Uhg, wtf FMIL?! Did you already respond to her? Plus it's not at all about public speaking, it's WHO is doing the speaking and what they are saying. At least to me. I sobbed through my reading at BFF's wedding, it was embarrassing but genuine.

How far away is FFIL? That's sad.

ETA: Back off from the shoes. No one will see them anyway and I wouldn't take the chance with the 3/4'. Link?
  • Holy crap, our wedding is Saturday! FI's best man came in to town yesterday so we had a bunch of friends over yesterday evening for a cookout and a rousing game if cards against humanity. Between the wine and the food, I feel like I gained 10 pounds, ugh. I don't think there is much to be done this week other than paying our florist, caterer, and baker, making sure our bills are all caught up, and pack for the honeymoon! And my mom will be coming to town tomorrow afternoon and staying with us for 2 nights. @lolo883 Have a great girls weekend--that sounds like sooo much fun and the bed and view look amazing!

I told FMIL that we had already asked Andy to do the reading and he said yes. And exactly - it's about having someone close to you do the reading. He's one of my best friends. Why would I ask FI's step-sister??? We barely even see her.
  • I'm right there with you with the wedding stress. 9/13 can't come soon enough and I'm also so excited!  OP, FMIL has some gall to dare suggest you change your plans so late. And Lolo, I'm seriously jealous of your girls' getaway. Have a fabulous time!

My latest stress is over the weather. If it's hot I'm going to be ticked, because we intentionally didn't want a summer wedding.  Plus, FI and his mom thought it wouldn't be a good idea to drag around a cooler while we take photos.  Ok, fine, they think it's going to inconvenience them especially when there are so many places (we're in a city) that we could duck in to get drinks if needed. Excuse me?  FI said, "You're so concerned about inconveniencing other people, but our bridal party wants to participate, you know."  Yeah, and I know if it's 90 fucking degrees and we're taking pics and walking around outside for two hours, we're going to die of heatstroke before making it down the aisle.

    Listen to lolo on this!

I'm so excited for you ladies.  It's so awesome to see your big vision come to life!  That's all I really have to contribute to this.  Oh and just ignore people like FMIL that will drive you crazy.

Oh and the day of the wedding try and pull your new hubby aside and just take it all in.  That was one of the favorite moments of our day.

Worddddd, date twin. I've been trying not to check the extended forecast because there's no way it'll be right this far out, but FI has been. One day it said 88 and humid, the next it said 62 and rain. Can a girl get some reliable 68 and partly cloudy in September for crying out loud?!

Ugh. I hope you get nice, cool weather! I would want to bring a cooler too. That's a good idea.
  • I'm sure I'll be checking the weather frantically the week of 9/27.
  • Oh yes, the weather checking. I've been checking the weather channel, wunderground, and NOAA and comparing for both the wedding day and then our honeymoon. I check, oh, every hour or two? As of now it looks like a 60% chance of thunderstorms Saturday, but everything is indoors, so I'm not too stressed. I more hope we have good honeymoon weather for Disney World!
  • Also, this just happened. I meant to say "year to date" to a co-worker and I said "save the date" instead. Oy.
  • Those FMILs seriously, always waiting last minute and disregarding everyone else's personal choices...Hang in there Clinbing, 25 days will go rolling down the hill and everything will be just fine! Good luck with everything!

Agh. This. Right now it's supposed to be 91, with a heat index of 112. That's right. I am going to melt into a puddle. Thank goodness everything is indoors.

  • Skip the new shoes. They're super-cute but the funky stuff will get covered by your dress anyway. Or buy 'em and wear them for something else!

I'm freaking out about wedding planning too. We're 6 weeks out and it seems like there's a ton to do and no time. Minor panicking here. I have my second fitting tomorrow and am worrying about that. There's so much to do...

@lolo883- if you don't have any luck with the iPod, let me know. I have an ancient iPod that I can send over. It's has some minor health issues after a nice trip to the spa (went through the washing machine) but it can work in a pinch.

@wandajune6 you're the sweetest. :) I think we have a couple floating around the house. Could probably use FI's as long as I figure out how to add songs without syncing it to my computer and deleting all of his stuff... made that mistake before. Whoopsie.

Good luck with your fitting, I'm sure it'll be great!

  • I know, I seriously can't believe that mine is NEXT Saturday. Today I pulled up my Excel sheet of all my payments because every time I paid something in full I movied it from the "outstanding" column to the "paid" column. And I am shocked that I only have 2 items left outstanding!! My photographer, and mini pies- that's it!! And I posted my items for sale already just to get a head start on selling/ gauge interest and I already have buyers lined up 10 out of 12 items! Wooooo!! And the only ones left over are the super cheap $2 items so I don't even care if I throw those in the trash.

  • Is it just me, or are there a shit ton of TK brides getting married in September?

    GL to all of you!

  • ClimbingBrideNY, any idea why FMIL is so weird about the readings?  And FWIW, I have a great friend whom I've known for 20 years. He did a reading at our wedding, as well.  :)

    I honestly have no idea.

    So effing weird.

I had two songs I wanted for my wedding that I couldn't find anywhere to purchase and could only find on youtube, so I used this site to convert them: http://www.youtube-mp3.org/

It's really quick and easy... just type URL of the youtube page into the box and hit convert video. Probably not entirely legal, though.  I generally prefer to purchase my music when possible, via iTunes or whatnot, because if I like them enough to listen to them, I should like them enough to support them and fund their ability to continue making music. But, when it's a really out there song that you just can't find anywhere to purchase (or if you are on a wedding time crunch and don't have time to search everywhere possible to purchase a song), this is a good alternative.

Rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck, right?

It poured on my wedding day, but luckily it held off until everyone was inside.  It kind of ruined my photo shoot though and we had to do all the photos inside... but we had already planned to get dressed up again and do a beach photo shoot a few days after the wedding, and the weather was perfect and sunny that day, so we still got some great outdoor wedding photos and everything worked out in the end.

  • @nicoann‌ that's the one I ended up using! Only for the ones I couldn't buy on iTunes. We're good to go!
