DIY champagne flutes and server set?

In the beginning I said for SURE I'd be buying a nice Things Remembered set lol! But now that I'm starting to value the importance of certain wedding things more... I'm thinking I could totally put some of that money on something else I'd really like (and something that people other than us would notice more lol) So I find myself thinking more and more about DIY lol

What are you gals doing for these? Going fancy? DIY? Recieved as a gift/ family heirloom? Don't care? I'm curious :)

Re: DIY champagne flutes and server set?

  • I'm going cheap. lol I will probably buy mine from oriental trading.
  • I had kind of the same train of thought, but with me it's from "I'm definitely going to DIY some champagne flutes" to "I don't think I can be bothered". I mean, the idea is nice, but who's really going to pay attention to this in the end? And it's a nice keepsake, but not as nice as the photographer and the rings that we are overspending on.

I asked a cake set for Christmas, and my sister gave me something with a gray plastic handle. It's utterly practical and ugly. Not going to use that one, but again, I've stopped caring. I just might invest in some of those 'i do', 'me too' spoons.

  • FI and I got cute wine/champange glasses from my parents for Christmas and each of it has our name on it. We may be using it for our wedding since it came from my parents and it'll feel special! We may tie a red ribbon around the stem too. I am afraid of transporting it though, don't want it getting lost or broken in the process (or being left behind).

We aren't sure what to use for cake cutting yet. May order one or see if our parents have theirs from their wedding (I doubt they have them though).

  • We are getting a things to remember set! Its one of the presents his mom is buying us for our shower! I'm really excited.

As for cake cutting, we haven't decided yet.

  • FI and I got waterford champagne flutes as an engagement gift from his dad and stepmom  they are blue so they match our colors.  I would never have bought these for ourselves but I am excited to have them :)
  • My venue provides cake cutting supplies, and since a bottle of champagne is included in my wedding package I assume they supply the champagne flutes as well. I had never considered buying special champagne flutes so I guess that means I don't really care about it haha. Although if the are something you would use again I do think that could be a special keepsake.
I did see the cutlery with "I Do" "Me Too" and thought they were so cute! I would consider buying those if they were reasonable. I can't really justify why that seems valuable to me and champagne flutes don't, except that I would probably use the cutlery more.

  • I registered for a nice set through Macy's.  I have no clue if I am etiquette wise supposed to do this but one of my BM's said if noone else buys them she'll buy them before the wedding as our gift.  We don't have a cake set for home use or champagne flutes so we will probably use them again haha.

  • We aren't having them...haha...we're just using what the venue has!!  We're not even having a champagne toast...we're just toasting with our beverages (haha me a long island and FI a jack and coke most likely!!)....We're seeing where we can cut back and what we don't think is necessary.

The cake set I bought off another knottie for $10..nothing special..my friend is using it in her wedding and then FSIL is using it in her wedding then I'll use it for ours...and most likely resell it...
  • That's so sweet those of you who have received or are going to receive sets as gifts! :) I looove these from Things Remembered, (CLICK) but together with the server set, I feel guilty about the price. So now I'm thinking of DIY. We're both a bit of romantics and I know we'll def use them again, we don't have a server set and pair of champagne flutes never kills. There are some really cute DIY tutorials out there we think look nice

This woman makes very cute stuff, flutes and server sets though I like the server sets best. However she's very expensive. Nice inspiration though..!

  • We are not having special flutes or a personalized cake server. They ate not things that we would ever use again so we don't really care. A few months ago, FI and I were helping my brother and his wife clean out their attic and we found a box of their old wedding stuff, including their cake server. They were married in 2005 so we might just use that.
  • I don't care much about it, so will probably use what the vendor provides unless we receive a set at the shower or early wedding gift. I don't know why, but in general I don't really care for personalized items so I really want one or two personalized things from our wedding, and I was already told to expect a few silver picture frames with our wedding date and names as gifts (Peruvian tradition).
