Throwback to our Childhood

Love the threads about how fashion is coming back around from the 90s.

Earlier today I remembered when I was in elementary school, colorfully dyed rabbit foot keychains were popular. (What the?)

What other throwbacks you got?

Re: Throwback to our Childhood

  • Inspired by the earlier thread I'm rocking my sparkly nsync tank top that I got at a concert in 4th grade. It fits like a sports bra now but I'm just happy I still have it.

  • Stick on earrings! Do kids still wear those? I wasn't allowed to get my ears pierced until I was 11. So I had the stick ons. I remember being super jealous of my friend who had pierced ears. And there I was having to worry about my earrings ending up stuck in my hair or on my sweatshirt.
  • BLOSSOM HATS!

I had a huge one with a ginormous sunflower, and a velvet patchwork one for ~special occasions~ like fancy dinner in ATL with my parents and the neighbors.

  • I was (and still am) a major bookworm. I used to read so much that I used to get in trouble during class for reading my books! Since I was not paying attention to the teacher actually teaching. Anyways my best friend and I LOVED The Baby Sitters Club and Sweet Valley Twins books as kids. In fact, once of the gifts she (now my MOH) got me as part of the bridesmaids engagement party gift was a copy of a BSC book! I also loved Goosebumps, Fear Street, and Sweet Valley High!

  • pinkcow - I loved all of those books, too! Except I'm not familiar with Fear Street.

beethery - bahahah I had forgotten about the blossom hats. I didn't have any but my friend with the pierced ears had a bunch. She was obviously very cool.

Little House series for yeeeeaaaars, and Goosebumps and Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. Reading or drawing at all times was my jam.

  • Fear street was written by the same author as Goosebumps - RL Stine! It was like the teenage version of Goosebumps. @beethery I also dabbled in drawing but I sucked at it. I actually also loved to write. I forgot I wrote this awesome short story in the 5th grade - Attack of the Killer Meatballs. It featured every single person in my class at the time. We used to have to read our stories out loud, it was quite a hit! Sigh. I should have never let go of that...

  • OH SHIT FEAR STREET! For some reason I could never get the first 3, so whenever I tried to pick them up I was missing the whole beginning.

Did you ever read any Christopher Pike books? I used to tear through one a day in 8th grade.

  • @hellokellybean‌ I still have 2 of those bracelets haha. And I think a necklace like that. I dabbled in reading Sweet Valley High and loved the babysitters club and little house on the prairie. I was also a big reader, does anyone remember the Alice series by Phyllis Naylor?
    image
  • @emcmac87 I may buy a necklace like that again on Etsy. Jealous that you still have yours.

Did anyone read Babysitters Club Little Sisters? I always found those more fun than the actual Babysitters Club books, although those were good too. Dear America were probably my favorite book series, American Girl was in my top 10.

I'm pretty sure the one I have isn't even mine, it was my cousins that she gave me when she cleaned out her jewelry box because she wanted it to be more mature or some crap. I will have to look at my parents to see if it's still in my room there haha

Omg I forgot about the Dear America books, loved those. I lent one to a friend then she pretended she had given it back and the identical one at her house was one she bought. I was not pleased, damn she was a bitch haha

    Oh nostalgia

  • Beanie babies, though they might be making a comeback by kind of copying WebKinz.  I saw some at a store the other day.
    image
Furbies; I had a white one with kind of shiny bits too.
    image
Tamagotchis; why aren't they still selling these?  I would totally buy one, don't judge me.
    image
These dolls that you put in this thing and pulled a string and then it would fly up like a helicopter-fairy thing.
    image
These plastic little cat and dog figurines that you could buy at Canadian Tire that would have a little blurb about the animal.  I did some googling, I think they might have been called Puppy in my Pockets.
    image
Pretty Pretty Princess board game.  You get more jewelry as the game goes on, and when you win, you get the crown/tiara.
    image
Popples; I had a blue one.

  • Polly Pocket and Popples are the shit!

Also @doeydo I just downloaded a tamagotchi app for my phone. And they apparently did some sort of offfical re release.

Ann M Martin, of the Baby Sitters Club will be at the Boston Bookfest. I will be first in line with some of my old copies of the book to get signed. I am much more excited than I should be!
  • @arrippa - Omg are you serous?? I wonder if she will make an appearance in NYC anytime soon! My regret is letting my mom give away all my BSC books to my younger cousin. I also sold a few before I started college to make some extra spending money to take with me. Biggest regret.

beethery - Christopher Pike!!! I forgot about his books, I used to devour his books also!
slothiegal - That is so awesome, I feel like I should do that with FI! Did you know that a new Sweet Valley High book came out? Sweet Valley Confidential, it's supposed to take place 10 years later. I haven't read it, and it doesn't have great reviews, but after this thread, I think I'll read it after I'm done with my current book lol.

  • Rabbit foot key chains? I LOVED THOSE!

I was always obsessed with Jellies. Shoe shopping? "Yes, I'd like 10 pairs of Jellies please and thank you."

Also, Bubble Tape was my jam.

Actual photos of my actual bedroom circa 1994-95.  Note the troll doll topper on the sand art bottle and the chia pet.  The corded phone and the Goosebumps books.  And of course all my awesome Bop posters.  I like the kitten posters.  Apparently silly cats are not just an internet thing.

I have no idea why I took these photos.  I was a strange child...

ETA  Also the souvenir king kong photo from Universal that's serving as my nice family portrait.

  • Full Disclosure.. I still have ALL of my Beanie Babies... and I have moved 3 times since was 19. Every time we move FI is like "Why do you keep these?" I don't really have an answer. I just have a hard time getting rid of them. And its not like I use them or display them. They are in an airtight crate in our storage.....
