Re: Throwback to our Childhood

  • Full Disclosure.. I still have ALL of my Beanie Babies... and I have moved 3 times since was 19. Every time we move FI is like "Why do you keep these?" I don't really have an answer. I just have a hard time getting rid of them. And its not like I use them or display them. They are in an airtight crate in our storage.....

    SIB

Fun fact: Ty Warner (aka god of beanie babies) owns a shit ton of property here in SB.  One of my regular running routes takes me by his mansion.

  • I didn't even watch that much TV but I have pretty much every commercial jingle in my head. The one that comes to mind right now is the commercial for the game Crossfire:

    Boxcar Children books

I have all of mine stored the same way. Including every complete set of the McDonald's ones still in the bags. My grandma decided they were supposed to pay for college or a down payment on a house for me. Now I have a 50 gallon container of Beanie Babies probably worth 50 bucks.

I heart Donnie! Not gonna lie - I went to not one, but TWO of the reunion concerts...in my 30s...and a freakin' BALL. And now they need to go away again because riding the nostalgic boy band wave can really only get you so far.

Me too! I went once in my 30s. And I was sitting really close and I was totally creeped out by Jordan, who used to be my fave.
  • The show Tailspin. LOVED that show.

Did you hear about the new singing duo of Nick and Knight? That's Nick Carter and Jordan Knight.

Yes! That and Ducktails were my favorite cartoons. I can still sing the Ducktales theme song.

Yes. And it wrong. So very, very wrong. Perhaps they should see if Debbie Gibson & Tiffany want to join them on tour so it can be even more barf worthy.

  • Oh, y'all are making me feel old! Old, I tell ya! Might as well recall some things fondly...
    Happiness is an inside job
  • Feeling ancient... (And, since I have FI in my head.... "Class of '97 representing!")

I missed jelly shoes. My mom wouldn't buy them for us because she said they would rip our feet up. When I bought them on my own I learned that she was right.

High school was grunge for me. I was listening to Green Day, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco, and Indigo Girls. We loved "Northern Exposure," "Friends," "My So-Called Life" and stuff like that.

A lot of the previously mentioned throwbacks are things I recognize only from my years of babysitting.

The doctor's cabin in this show is owned by the Seattle BSA council. And I have stayed in it on more than one occasion.

  • @cwradford - I have to disagree that Harry Potter can be considered a throwback.  Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Harry Potter.  And the books did start producing in the late 90s (I believe Sorcerer's Stone was '97?)  But the last book was released in 2007 and the movies didn't stop until our very recent past.  Harry Potter carried over into my adulthood.  I remember standing in lines waiting for the book to go on sale or for the movies to open in theaters.
I've read the books so many times that all of them except Deathly Hollows are in multiple pieces.
I can't equate Harry Potter with my Polly Pockets, Barbies, Etch a Sketch, and Spirograph.  I just can't.

I guess for me when the book series finally stopped my heart broke a little. The Final Book came out in 2007 and since I didn't graduate until 2010 from High School I guess for me its an age difference. I remember preordering the last book because my family was stationed in Japan and I really, really wanted to make sure that they hadn't sold out before I could buy my copy.

Also not matter how true the movies are to the books. They are never a completely accurate depiction, because being able to connect with characters through words means being able to get a glimpse into their heads and know them intimately.

@cwradford‌ I bawled for days when Sirius, Dumbledore and Dobby died I was so attached to the books. I was inconsolable. *Embarrassing confession here* - my parents bought my sister the audio tapes and when the 4th book came out the only thing that would calm me down enough so that I could sleep was having it playing in the background. Those

  • TAMAGOTCHIS!! I want the app! The old version. Not the "send it to school and let it grow up with a job" kind. Just hatch from an egg, turn into some blob that resembles a bat or dinosaur or dog or cat and let me feed, water, play, and clean your poo. And games! That's all. No "I'm gonna be a musician!" bull shit :)

  • Chip and Dale, Rescue Rangers along with everything else in that Disney afternoon block, Dunkaroos( i miss these so much that i search for them for no reason)...most of the other stuff has been mentioned by pp's.

This black-hearted bitch cried for Hedwig.  And then I realized the rest of the book was going to be a bumpy ride.
