What other message boards do you use?

Re: What other message boards do you use?

  • @climbingbrideny- I had totally blocked that from memory until you hinted at it. Some of those girls were harsh.

When I left, there were still a lot of awesome women there. But a few of them really seemed to enjoy raking me over the coals. And it's a shame that a few of them had to ruin it, you know?

  • I used to post to television without pity until the boards shut down. Now mainly here. I'm not cool enough for the tree house.
I miss TWOP  :(  So much snark!

  • So I'm very uncool. I had never, ever posted on any message boards until I discovered TK.

Now though I might need to check out SnarkyChickens.... hmmmm

  • I just want to say thanks, whoever posted about snarkychickens. I now know exactly what I'll be doing to keep me up until FI gets off.

  • I adore forums... I could never get into chat rooms but forums are my favourite.

I've been on quite a few animals ones as well. I find the ones for small animals or reptiles to be better then say dog or cat. Hedgehog and ball python forums were always pretty fun.

Oh yeah, I posted occasionally for help when I first got my hedgehog.  There was a great board with lots of helpful people.  But not anymore, since I no longer have him around.  :(

It is awful that they do not live that long ): Mine is already a year and a half... Hoping to get another 2 years from him. They are cute little guys, but I wish they lived till they were 12 like rabbits.

I've posted on many message boards throughout the years but mainly I only post on TK and another message board about gothic music and subculture. Ironically, nearly no one who posts regularly on that message board identifies as goth (myself included) so it's a funny and very tightknit group. Many have even dated and gotten married.

Other than message boards, I'm on Tumblr, Pinterest, Steam, and several feminist Facebook groups.

Ha, sounds exactly like the place I am speaking about. Including the members getting married.

  • That's awesome! Although the name of the website in question apparently makes it really awkward for people when they're asked where they met their SO.

  • I am thinking of three that it could be... Either GG, DS or VF?

  • VF! That's hilarious that you were able to figure it out.

  • Haha, that was one of the first websites I joined - I think I was 13 at the time. My mom hated the website because of the media stories they would post every once and awhile. I am only on DS now (You may know what that is due to VF trolling us when they are bored every now and then) DS it is dying out though.

  • I used to be very active on Gaia but time differences suck. I still lurk Gaia quite a bit because I have a lot of friends there who I've known almost a decade, but I tend to skip the main forums these days and head right to the guilds ("private" boards).

In my 10 or so years on the site, I've modded various guilds (officially) and threads (unofficially, because threads don't have mods). Lots of advice given (and arguments had), and yes, teenagers are complete idiots. I don't remember being that stupid when I was a teen...

The user base is generally younger, but the guild I spend most of my time in is primarily college age and up. I'm currently the oldest (in real age) member, AFAIK. I think that's why the guild has gotten so slow of late - we're all off living our lives, working, studying, getting married, raising kids, buying houses, and generally being offline.

I also used Trisphy for a while, and a couple of other sites whose names I can't even remember (guess how successful that experiment was).

  • I found the topics moved too quick on Gaia and the community was so large that it was difficult to really bond with anyone of the forum.

He made it to just shy of 5 years, then developed a cancerous tumour in his jaw.  2 weeks later, it had spread like crazy and abscessed, so we had to put him down.  He was awesome

It was a LOT slower when I first joined, and I quickly found a handful of reasonably paced threads I liked (read: run by like-minded people) in the main forums, then moved off into guilds where the pace is generally slower.

I'm honestly not happy on Gaia any more. The management has gone to shit, they send WAY too many "community announcements" which you can't turn off, and out of every 10 of those announcements, 9 of them will be "we need more money, buy this and support us".

But, I have friends there, and we've tried moving off to different platforms and it just doesn't work. Sadface.

  • @jynxiie Come back to vf and find me on rt or the fashion board! :3 My mom makes fun of me relentlessly for being on a website called "vampire freaks" but whatevs. I was on DS briefly. The only person I know who's on there is a very tall Dutchman. You may know who I'm talking about!

Love it!!! I know exactly who you are talking about, I was actually just given his moderator job at DS due to him leaving us for just VF. I may check out VF again I just find it too... busy? It is a huge site. Is your name on VF the same?

  • My first message board was a manners board called something like Miss Manners Message Board; I found it accidentally when I was reading old MM columns.  It's now evolved into a general board and moved several times, and some of us have been there for 7+ years.  I don't even remember when I joined, but it was sometime before 2007.  I'm also on a spinoff board from that one.  I'm technically a member of TH but I rarely remember to check it.  I like etiquette issues and reading other people's drama, so that's why I've become a TK reg.  You guys are my etiquette fix now that my original board no longer talks about that much; I tend to have more debates on the MM board and more chit chat on the spinoff board.

  • Other than here and TH I'm moderator on an author fan site. It is a really tight knit group. We used to just talk books but now we talk about everything and we play a lot of games.
  • I lurk on MFP and I used to use this really nerdy gamer one but then I got engaged and realized how much more intelligent you all are.

I miss TWOP too. I have been posting there since it was Mighty Big TV. I have signed up at PreviouslyTV but haven't been there much.

ETA: I also like Tripadvisor forums. I like to pick my next vacation spot and just read the forum about that place.
