  • Yes. I taste lots of things while I cook. Dump spoon in sink and grab a new one. If you put the spoon back in after licking it, that's nasty. My mom has a friend who cooks and tastes things and puts the spoon back in while she's cooking. She'll do it in front of you. It makes me want to gag.

  • If it wouldn't make me so fat, I would eat raw cookie dough for every meal.  It's my favourite Blizzard flavour too

  • I remember when I was a kid there was a Mr Sub that would sell you the raw cookie dough instead of cookies, it was awesome.

  • Nope.  Never.  And it's not even because I'm paranoid of salmonella.  I just don't really enjoy uncooked batter/dough.  I don't have the biggest sweet tooth in the first place, so I never want the cookies enough to jump straight for the dough.

    But give me a soft-boiled, runny-yolked egg and some toast any day of the week.  Heaven.

  • The spoon, the beaters, the bowl..and end up getting some sort of batter on my nose or face...I also have ordered otis spunkmeyer frozen cookie dough for the sole purpose of eating frozen....

  • I have to, for quality control purposes because FI can't have anything with raw egg.

    I actually make vegan cake batter just so I can eat it raw. Which has just reminded me that I need to make a batch of vegan cupcakes for the wedding because of vegan MOH and guest with egg allergy!

  • Always.  The spoon, the beaters, then I use the spoon to scrape more batter from the bowl.  I've been doing it my whole life and never gotten sick, knock on wood. 

    The thought has occurred to me that I will need stop it when I get pregnant.  The list of off-limits foods for pregnancy is seriously depressing :(

  • Definitely. But only when I'm cooking for DH and/or my family (who do it and I know don't care).

    I do not if I'm cooking for other people. I wouldn't want to eat stuff their fingers and tongues had been in so I don't when I cook/bake for them.

  • Loooooove licking the bowl, spoon or beaters. However, FI has now taken over that part of the baking process. He's got a much bigger sweet tooth and always happens to wander into the kitchen exactly as I've finished scooping all the batter out of the bowl. He then eyes the bowl, looks at me, looks back at the bowl and asks very slyly if he can lick the bowl and spoon. He's too cute not to share with.
  • i love licking the spoo, bowl, spatula, whatever. The thought of raw egg doesn't phase me. FI can't have but a tiny taste because for some reason he always gets sick from raw eggs.

    I also love dough from bread and/or pizza crusts...YUM!

    FTR there is an egg-less cookie dough, designed just so you can eat it!

    INGREDIENTS 1 stick unsalted butter, softened 3/4 cups packed brown sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla (based upon feedback, you may want to reduce this amount. I like a prominent vanilla flavor but feel free to adjust) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons milk 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips (Ghirardelli is my fave) DIRECTIONS With your mixer, cream together butter and brown sugar. Add in vanilla and salt, mix. Add in flour. The mixture is going to be crumbly at this point. Add in 2 tablespoons of milk and mix. Now the dough will look like the cookie dough you’re used to seeing. Fold in 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips and 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips. Store leftovers in the refrigerator. Freeze for up to three months. UPDATE: It was brought to my attention that there is a small risk you can still get sick from eating raw flour. Please consume at your own risk.

  • Always...although if the skids are with us I don't have much access as I need to divy the bowl, beaters, spatulas between my stepkids and husband.  If they aren't with us - I generally get the beaters and DH gets the mixing bowl ;-)

    I also eat little pinches of bread dough, pie crust, etc...for flavor before rolling out/working the dough.

  • I make chocolate chip cookies or brownies or yellow/white cakes just so I can eat the batter.  I don't really care about the finished product I just want a taste (or two or three or ten) of the batter.  I mean, when I make brownies I dump the batter in the pan and only slightly scrap the bowl because whatever is left in the bowl is up for grabs and since I have control over what is left in the bowl I tend to "forget" to use a rubber spatula :)

    I haven't heard of anyone getting salmonella from eating batter but I have eaten so much chocolate chip cookie dough batter that I didn't feel all that well a bit later, but I don't think that was from the eggs but rather that I just ate too damn much of it.

    DH's mom never let him do that and was shocked when I offered him a beater from making brownies.  lol

    Replace mine with ALL OTHER FOODS. I make up for my lack of sweets with way too much of everything else.

  • Of course! I lick everything, and feel no shame. The whole salmonella thing is so overblown. I'm not immunocompromised and I buy pasteurized eggs, so all is well.

    I don't actually bake much because it is boring and makes a mess and I don't like measuring things as much as I like throwing shit in a pan and experimenting. (Also, I only like baked goods kind of generally, in the way that one conceptually "likes" any number of things like lemon water or fancy shoes, without necessarily seeking them out. Happy when I get them! But not actually going out of my way). BUT, when I do, or am around other people doing it, I am an unabashed spoon/beater/bowl licker.

  • I always like the spoon, bowl, beater, whatever when I'm baking! However if you like to eat raw cookie dough, this has no eggs and is delicious for eating raw. I like to make it into small balls and freeze them, then its like those bits of cookie dough from your ice cream, which is the best part. I've also made my own ice cream and added these in and that's yummy too!

    Or just eat it straight from the bowl when you finish mixing.

  • I've never eaten bread dough but I have eaten raw pie crust and it is pretty tasty.
