You can shop for your dress whenever.  Some people like to wait longer if they are trying to lose weight.  No matter when you decide to go it is really important that once you pick a dress that you stop shopping!  You don't want to wind up being in love with a second dress when you've already purchased one.

For BMs usually they need to order them about 3 months before the wedding so they have enough time to come in and be altered if necessary.  So maybe shop for them 6-4 months before the big day?

Eeeek, sorry. I just realized you asked "when,"  not "where." Anyhow, some wedding gowns take just 3 months to come in, and some take 7 months (that's how long mine is taking). You'll need about 2 to 3 months for alterations, so I think your planned bridal gown shopping of December/January is a good time.

Also, any suggestions on some bridal shops around the Milwaukee area?  I am looking to keep a budget of $800.00.  Thanks!

It's a bit of a drive, but I really liked Brandi's Bridal Galleria in New Glarus. Around Milwaukee I liked Stone Manor Bridal in Cedarburg.

A good friend spent around $800 total (after alterations) from Eva's Bridal in Oak Creek, although the salon rips out the tags of the designers ... and I hate that. Another place I heard was nice was Hartland Bridal in Hartland.

I just ordered my dress from Josie Krukar's Bridal in Wales, WI. It's a little bridal shop owed by Josie Krukar, who used to design and make her own dresses. She no longer makes her own dresses, but has a little shop where she sells other designers. I LOVED her shop and working with her. Since she used to make her own dresses, she knows what looks good on people and is not afraid toe tell you what she thinks. She is pretty opinionated, but I loved that about her. I went in there not knowing what I wanted or what looked good on me and I found it a great help to have someone who was such an expert helping me. I would definitely recommend going there.

Another place I went where they were really helpful was Kay's Bridal in Wauwatosa, so that's another one I would recommend!

As far as Eva's Bridal in Oak Creek - I had a friend who was in a wedding where they ordered their bridesmaid dresses from there and they had a horrible experience. I personally haven't been there, but I steered clear of there from what I heard from them.

    Hope this helps!
