Do not play list

I was just asked if I had a "do not play list" for our DJ. We're meeting with him tomorrow and I never thought of it.

Did you have one? What was on it?

Help!!!

Re: Do not play list

  • "Another One Bites the Dust"

  • Pumped Up Kicks.
  • We have to go through that list too...I hate Beyonce's voice - so she's definitely gonna be on my list!

  • Group dances like the electric slide and YMCA.

I might just put that down as "anything by Queen"!

  • I think the only songs we had on our list were "i got a feeling" and Ice Ice Baby.

  • All of the silly group dances, any songs associated with past SOs, and I'm sure FI will come up with a list (including "I Got a Feeling" and anything by pop princesses).

  • We didn't have a DJ.  Our cocktail hour was a Celtic duo and there was to be NO Unicorn or Danny Boy.  We had a 6 piece big band for our reception and we asked them to focus on that style of music with some good R&B thrown in for dancing.

I would advise that if you have a Do Not Play list make sure you are firm with your DJ about it.  A friend's wedding years ago she had Who Let the Dogs Out on her list and the DJ allowed the MOG to request it and play it.

  • The chicken dance...ugh.  Haha.

FI is insisting on Ice Ice Baby. We're still negotiating "Dangerous on the Dance Floor" and "I Like Big Butts." Which could devolve into me going behind his back to the DJ....

  • I'm pretty sure FI and I are just going to sit down and write a list of songs we DO want since our "Do not play" list would be miles long...  I mean, we LOVE music.  We listen to tons of different things.  Just nothing that makes its way onto the radio or a Dj's playlist.

From what I've heard Djs play at event's I've gone to, they'll play some pretty lame stuff if left to their own devices.  If it's a fad at the time (Like that stupid friday song, or that stupid hello kitty song by Avril Levine, or that dumb call me maybe song) they're gonna want to play it- so if you've heard it on the radio 500 times lately and don't want it at your wedding, put it on your "do not play" list.

  • Pumped Up Kicks.
I hate that song so much! I really hope no one would think it is in any way appropriate to play it at a wedding!

If there is any song you just really don't like I would put it on the list.

  • Brick house I swear to god if I hear it ONCE I will burn down the building.

A couple years ago, I went to a party at a friend's house.  A couple of my douchebucket friends got together and created an entire playlist of songs they knew I hated ("Dancing Queen", "Firework", "Jack and Diane", to name a few) and got the host to play it ALL NIGHT LONG.

Needless to say, I told our DJ in VERY strong words that none of those were to be played.

  • This is what we sent our DJ, and it worked out well for our crowd:

    -          Anything by Chris Brown, R. Kelly, Justin Beiber, One Direction (and other such boy bands)

    -          Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight

    -          Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines

    -          Any choreographed dances (i.e. Macarena, Electric Slide, Chicken Dance, Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Hokey Pokey, Achy Breaky Heart, etc.)

    -          Hardcore or gangsta rap

    -          Songs with blatantly inappropriate lyrics

  • This is my do not play list.

    Nickelback

    Creed

    Any country

Group dances (electric slide, Macarena, etc.)

    Meatloaf

    Any songs from Grease

    Village People

    Bon Jovi

You would have hated me, then. We asked for as much Jersey music as the crowd would tolerate (which is a lot). We have AWESOME pictures of all our friends - and my family - dancing and singing along to "Livin' on a Prayer"!

  • Journey

    Beyonce

    Coldplay

    U2

Extremely overplayed songs (will partly depend what's popular next year, but things like Happy)

High level cheese (Call Me Maybe, Friday)

    Choreographed dances

    I know I'm forgetting some...

  • LOL @ high level cheese. I'm totally including that in my list!

Haha, Dancing Queen will be on my must play list!  I love reading everyone's different views on music!  :)

  • Our was something to the effect of:
    • twangy country or bluegrass
    • hardcore rap
    • head-banger type stuff
    • more than 2 songs by Madonna

We were open to our DJ taking requests because I'd been to a few weddings he'd worked and knew he would keep it appropriate.

Fi put it on his list of requested songs. Lol. I don't veto much, but that really earned it.

We didn't have a dj but when we were making our playlist we let people make request and the only thing we were dead set against was anything country. We really hate country music.

Edited because my ipad hates words
  • Group dances like the electric slide and YMCA.
I was going to ban all of these, but everyone else enjoys them.  So I'm going to ask the DJ to play no more than 3 total during the reception, and I'll just go get another drink during those songs.

I'm going to ask him to limit country songs, but ban all TayTay songs. . . I fucking hate her.

    We can't be friends.
I don't hate Queen. I don't love 'em. I just can't think of any of their songs that I would want at a wedding.

    Does that help?

  • I'm currently going through the 'Top Requested Songs' list that my DJ's setup has. I've added a fucking ASS TON of them to the Do Not Play list.

    It's gonna be LONG.
