I just read through all of the pages of the "FI & money vent" thread so stay at home parenting is on my mind. I'm also taking a rare sick day and need something to entertain myself with.
I'm 25 and FI is 27, and we'd like to start trying to have kids within a year or two after our wedding... so this is an entirely different situation than the other thread. Our plan is for FI to be a stay at home dad. He currently works seasonally in the outdoor education industry. Basically, he has a really awesome job that allows him to teach kids how to canoe, rock climb, survive in the woods, etc. and he only signs on for seasons at a time (fall, spring, summer). He doesn't make much but it's a job that he loves and I love that he's passionate about it.
I work in IT with a pretty good salary, so it's a no brainer to us that he'll stay home with the kids when we have them. I also wouldn't want to spend all day at home with babies (more power to the person who does want to do that), and we think he'd be really good at it.
Does anyone else have a stay at home dad arrangement? How did it work out for you? Is it a futile effort to make these plans before you even have kids, since so many things could change?
