    Now they refer to cards telling guests which table they are assigned to.  A place card may be used to tell guests which seat to take at their assigned table.

    Escort cards used to refer to a card assigning an escort to a single lady at a social event.

    They're the cards that are usually on a table right outside the venue with everyone's name and table number. Usually they're arranged in alphabetical order. Guests use the escort cards to find their table and then mark their seat.
