Most Thoughtful Wedding/Shower Gifts

Spin-off from the strangest gifts thread!

We received an adorable throw pillow that had our last name and our wedding date on it. PLUS she made it in the colors of our family room accents already. It was so thoughtful and definitely a keeper for the couch!

We also received two "His and Hers" bunny rabbits knitted by my youngest sister. I'll have to take a picture. I cried when I opened them up.

Thoughtful but a little strange, we received a rolling pin that was engraved with our name and wedding date. It's a beautiful rolling pin tapered to the ends without handles, but I'm not sure if I'm actually supposed to use it or if it should go on display in the china cabinet.

  • Those rabbits are so cute!

My grandmother made us a beautiful afgan (sp?) blanket and gave it to me at my shower. I love it.

  • Oh! H's grandma (who I have never met) made us a beautiful quilt with our wedding invitation on the back. She mailed it to us when we cancelled our original wedding because she couldn't come to the new wedding we planned.

It's beautiful and I'm sad that she wasn't able to come.

Back in the day, I could NOT sleep without a feather pillow. It didn't matter how nice and soft and wonderful the other kinds of pillows were, it had to be a down pillow. So, right after my XH and I got engaged, I bought him a puppy. He'd never had a dog before and he was really excited about it, but she was a MONSTER. I've raised dogs my entire life and I have never, ever encountered a dog so destructive. She was also completely impossible to train and I was pretty much at the point of begging her to just behave for a fucking hour so I could accomplish ANYTHING. It was a disaster.

So, about a week before my shower, she demolished my feather pillow. Just shredded it everywhere. I was SO upset, and really couldn't afford another one. We hadn't registered for any, either, because we had nice ones already, so why bother? Thankfully, my MOH was awesome and got me a new feather pillow. I still have it, like 8 years later. Not so much the devil dog.

ETA: Incidentally, I no longer really like feather pillows, anyway.
  • Ohh - at my shower in my home town I got a gift from my cousins wife that EVERYONE loved - it's a ceramic beverage dispenser that says "The (Insert new last name here)" and has our wedding date is on the back. We entertain a lot - so we'll probably use it constantly. It's in my user photo on here with me at my shower!

Also - my Aunt and Uncle sent us an early wedding present for at the wedding. It's a German "wedding cup" that they purchased while overseas visiting my cousin - complete with the story on how it originated. See here.
  • @ShesSoCold WOW that is super thoughtful. I'm so sorry for your loss, but that picture I know is super special to you!

    @lolo883 I love that! It's beautiful. I wish I had more hand-made things.

We have a ton of afghan blankets that my great grandmother made. I wish our family still made them! I might have to get my little sister into that. She made a small baby blanket for the dog a few months ago.

  • My aunt made us a gorgeous king size quilt. I love it, i dont have it on our bed, but would love to hang it on a wall eventually. Right now it resides on a blanket rack.

  • My Aunt (parents friend actually) made us a beautiful quilt. She did one for my Brother's wedding too. We're trying to figure out what to do with it. I'm thinking we might hang it on a wall.

H and I did the german wedding cup! We plan to drink from it every anniversary. It was nice cause a bunch of his aunts and uncles did it at their wedding, and said it was nice to see the tradition carry on.

  • Quilts.. not as easy to use as afghan blankets..

If I received a quilt, I might fold it on a stand for display, but idk where I could put it on a wall and actually make it look good.

Yeah we got a quilt from my aunt... she didn't make it, but it was still super thoughtful - she was at some kind of a craft show and it was on display from apparently some famous quilter (there is such a thing??) and it was close to our wedding color so she bought it for us. But... I have no idea what to do with it. I'm sure it will come in handy with bebes as a tummy time blanket but IDK besides that. It's not bed-sized, but I prefer fuzzy blankets to curl up on the couch. Quilts are more stiff.

  • My friend got us an engraved silver picture frame with our name and date, Iove it!  On a more handmade note, my SIL and her BF made us wood cutting boards.  They made two, one large and one small, and used different types of wood so it has "stripes" of different colors, sealed, and seasoned them.  Can't use them for meat, but anything else.  They are AMAZING and I love them!!!
  • @lolo883 TUMMY TIME BLANKET. yes. And then bebe spits up on it..

I also thought of a picnic blanket. To sit on while watching fireworks. Quilts are so beautiful, but if you can't put it on your bed, then it stays folded up somewhere.

I'm sure you all LOVE your quilts though! I was not given one, so I have no sentimental value to one yet.

  • H's SIL paid for our mini-moon. That was the bomb!
  • Came home from honeymoon to find that a friend had cleaned up and organized the post-wedding mess for us (all gifts in one pile, wedding decor in another, ran the dishwasher, etc). I cried, I was so grateful.

  • I'm a sucker for sentimental gifts and I get annoyed because no one ever gives them to me. Like when I bought my house I specifically told FI (DH now) that I would love a Christmas ornament that said "first home" and the year. He did not get me one. I just like sappy stuff like that. So I got one for my brother when they got their house, and I got them an adorable bride & groom Christmas ornament with their wedding date on it.

I was like I love these things- why do my friends suck and not get the hint and give them to me in return?! Well my parents went on vacation 3 months ago to the resort they sent me for my honeymoon last week. While they were there, they had a painting specially made of a bride and groom on the beach with our names and date, and even a little beard painted on the man!! They gave it to us the night before the wedding and I was so touched to finally get something with my god damn date on it LOL.

I love Bronners!! I used to make my BFF take me every time I visited her in Midland! Sadly, she moved right when I met FI so we never got an ornament together....

  • My grandma gave me a tote bag she sewed filled with tools for a shower gift.  She said a woman always needs her own tools around the house.  It's awesome.

We also got a box with everything for sundays except the ice cream.  Cute little ice cream dishes, an ice cream scoop, cherries, chocolate sauce, caramel, sprinkles and nuts.  It was the craziest coolest gift ever!
  • My favourite shower gift was a collection of dried herbs from a family friend's garden. She gave me a really nice mortar and pestle to go with it, but the herbs themselves were my favourite.
