Best Nail Polishes?

Re: Best Nail Polishes?

  • I love Seche Vite! I'm pretty rough on my hands, so it helps keep my polish looking nice a few days longer. I typically use Chanel polish because I have a bunch of it left from when I worked for them.

  • I have never seen a difference between expensive polish and cheap. I am a biter and I work with my hands a lot, so my nail polish is shot after 1 day.

I am trying out press on nails for my engagment pics. Here's hoping they don't look awful!

@larrygaga I have used the Impress nails and I like them.  I often get compliments from people who think they're salon gels.

And I used to bite.  You're right, when you are biting, no nail polish makes a difference.  I have SO MANY nail polishes now that I stopped biting.  I'm just so excited to wear them.

I got cheap kiss ones because I have never worn fake nails at all in any form. I would really like to quit, and my nails are so frail and bendy at this point they break off if I don't bite them off. I don't normally care but I never had pictures of my hands taken before! Now that I have a ring it's a different story!

I, too, have an aburd amount of polish that I leave in random places in the house. I caught FI  organizing them by color one day.

  • Regular nail polish barely lasts a day on me, so I bought the Sensationail home gel kit with the lamp.

I think it was only like $50 and I figure that's practically one manicure!

  • I try to do my nails but every time I get around to doing them I end up not liking them and I just remove it all. =(

Its normally because I don't have a very steady hand so I miss the edges then when I go back to fix it the extra coat makes my nails look really thick and clunky.

I want to do better though. I just never got taught how to do them. I missed all those classes.

I'm a biter to, have you thought about just doing acrylics instead of press ons? I tried press ons, but they lasted a day just like polish since I would bite them off. Acrylic is harder to break through and while most people say they damage your nails, probably won't do as much damage as gnawing on them will.

As for the OP I have had awesome luck with OPI. Even with my acrylics I still try to bite and don't mess up the polish.

I'm a nail polish addict. When we moved overseas I had to scale down a lot so I gave away over half of my polishes to friends, it was a very sad day. Zoya is my absolute favorite nail polish brand ever. They are a bit pricey at $8 & $9 a bottle but if you create an account on their website and get the emails they are always having amazing BOGO deals and they have a rewards points program.
    Here's my current collection.

Noooooooooooooooo you didn't!!!!! I would have cried for days. I brought all my nail polish with me when I moved three weeks ago, all. In my suitcase too, not even in the boxes coming later. FI thinks I'm crazy.

  • Essie is the bomb! Make sure you have a good top coat to go with that though! I use the Essie No Chip Ahead. That's what we used when I was in make up school and been using it since :)
My BFF uses that with their quick dry top coat.  It looks like a gel manicure and it withstands work, cleaning, and a 2 year old.

I just ordered them off of Amazon and it should be coming today!

  • @missax Individual wrapping, you're a lucky girl. I had to wrap my stuff all my myself. Shipped by ship (duh) and surprisingly quick enough. Only took them two weeks to get all my stuff here .You air shipped? Where did you move to?

  • Does our new friend @laqueredlover have any nail polish suggestions? Based on her username and having a beauty blog, it sounds like she likes polish too!

  • Gel polish destroys my nails.. Even with acetone removal, it tears the top layer of my nail off so my nails are thin and have ridges. It lasts forever, if you can out up with it growing out, at least a month. But I took mine off probably end of august from my July wedding, and my nails are still thin, discolored, ridged.

We weren't allowed to pack any of our own stuff because of insurance stuff or something. We live in Indonesia and because the apartment we picked was furnished we didn't qualify for a freight shipment. My husband's company paid for all of it so we didn't argue.
Indonesia awesome!!! I really want to go to Bali at some point. Wanted to honeymoon there or Bora Bora but decided to save it for next years to come since our wedding is taking place on a destination island anyway. Do you like it there?

I usually go with OPI or Essie.  I have awful luck when it comes to chipping though, even when I get them done professionally I sometimes have issues.  Especially when I wash my hair, for some reason that always chips my nails, no idea why.
When I wash my hair, the polish PEELS OFF. I think the moroccan oil from the conditioner gets under it maybe?
I have this same problem. I never thought about this, but I do use moroccan oil products. It makes sense.
Generally if your polish is peeling off, it's because it's too thick and your tips aren't wrapped so products can get under it.  Make sure you paint the tips of your nails and topcoat it as well to prevent it from happening.  Also try using a shampoo brush instead of working your hands into your hair (same with a detangler brush for conditioner) to help save your manicure!

  • Haha I won't even show you guys my collection but it's upwards of 3,000 now, probably closer to 4k.  If anyone ever needs to find a specific color or finish, let me know!  I can point you in the right direction!

the ridges happen from nail trauma ( have one on my left ring finger) and generally dont' go away.  However to help with making them stronger, Duri Rejuvacote is a lifesaver.  Use it as a base coat!

  • @laqueredlover What exactly is wrapping?

I have super thin short nails. (not a biter though) And every time I paint my nails it looks like a 5 year old got a hold of my hands. I'm using Impress press on nails for my wedding. I did a test run last month and they went on so quickly and lasted forever! So the night before my wedding I'm going to press these things on, go to bed, and be ready in the morning.

So when you paint the nail, make sure you also paint over the free edge past the tip so the polish is on there too

  • For those that have shaky hands and have trouble doing a neat polish job yourself, this was a lifesaver for me:

It's basically like a foam tipped marker, but filled with nail polish remover instead of ink. So, if you get messy with the polish, this makes it easy to clean up around the edges of the nail without messing up the polish.

I used to use wood manicure sticks dipped in remover, but this is more effective and easier to use.

I just recently discovered these: http://www.amazon.com/Q-Tips-Cotton-Swabs-Precision-Count/dp/B005XIM6J2

They are pretty easy to use after dipped in a little remover.

I use a cheap eyeliner brush dipped in acetone for clean up.  The brush makes it super easy to get a perfect line at the cuticle!
