  • @BaytoSA2013 - Congrats! That is such exciting news!

  • @BaytoSA2013‌ Yay baby!!! Congrats!

  • @justbeingme93 - Hang in there!  It'll fly by quicker than you know.

@minskat30 - They're absurd!  We looked at getting cabinets for ours house a few years back and the price tag us say "we don't need them that bad."  It's on our list of things to do, unless we end up selling the house before then.  That installation charge is ridiculous!  You'd think it would be the other way around - less money per box for more boxes.

@eilis1228 - Yay, help :)  Fingers crossed it works out for you.  If not, like you already said you've got it covered so no worries.

@BaytoSA2013 - Congrats! :) What an awesome birthday!

Re: my step-dad... it's very exciting and very much appreciated. I guess it works out that by the time he's promised to give me the money, the majority of the expenses will be paid for. That way if he's unable to follow through on that promise, we'll still be fine. If he does follow through, FI has said he wants to make a very large payment on my student loans. He said those have a higher interest rate than anything else we'd be buying or saving for, so we should try to knock those out quickly. I have $65k in student loan debt, so it's going to take a while to pay those off. :-\

  • eilis1228 I feel your pain.  $175k in student loan debt. All because I was a stupid 17 year old who just focused on moving away from home so I chose a private school instead of a state school. And now any extra money I have goes towards paying that mortgage off.

  • @speakeasy14 Holy moly, $175k! Wow! It's just unreal how much college costs, and then you only have 10 years (in theory) to pay that off. I think student loan debt is going to be the next big bubble that pops and crashes the economy.

  • I completely agree, and wish I would have known this at 17 to at least cut that cost in half.

Ditto! I would have done community college and then transferred if I'd really understood the cost of college. My English degree is definitely not paying for itself. The 2 years of grad school helped me land a decent-paying job, but still not enough to reasonably pay the full amount due on my loans per month. I really really really wish I'd listened to everyone trying to sway me into a better degree or a cheaper education plan at 17.
