Tuesday Chat

Morning homeslices! How is everyone now that it's not Monday?

I'm in a happy mood because today's the first day I've let myself get excited about the house in a while. I've been really cautious and nervous but we're moving forward and get the keys to our house in just 17 days!!!!!! H is calling our landlord either tonight or tomorrow night to give him the heads up and we're going to start packing up the apartment tonight too.

I spent the morning realizing that between 2 of our credit cards, we have enough points to buy $1000 in gift cards for Home Depot which will come in SO handy when it's time to buy appliances!

I'm just in such a great mood today, hopefully nothing brings me down!

Re: Tuesday Chat

  • @Swazzle -YAY for 17 days!!!!! Better get to packing!

I'm glad it's not Monday either. Yesterday sucked since I took Friday off and basically people went into Chaos mode since I wasn't in the office to solve their problems. Oh well. I also didn't get to work out since we had to go pick up Maddux from H's mom's house and I'm cranky since I haven't worked out since last Thursday even though we did a ton of walking this weekend.

Today we have an appraiser coming to the house after work and our landlord is putting the house on the market next year. I'm curious to see what the house gets appraised for...there are a few cosmetic things that need to be fixed but I doubt we would even consider buying it since the yard is too small anyways.

Afterwards I'll go to CrossFit and come home and do some cleaning that I've been meaning to do for the past two weeks...oh well.
  • @Swazzle - the Home Depot gift cards will come in SOOOO handy!!

@southernpeach89 - you'll have to work out all the grumps at CrossFit tonight, hmmm?

Bella woke me up at 5 AM today.  seems she was having an IBS/IBD flare.  I gave her the medicine, but I do not want to go home and find a poop or puke explosion in the house.  fingers crossed.

@Swazzle It sounds like you will have some really fun shopping to do! "Free" shopping is the best kind.

Today, I have two classes. Then, I have to come home and make my apartment look nice because my landlord is showing it all week. It is really sad that I can't stay in this apartment next year, but I have no clue where I am going to student teach. So, it would be quite dumb for me to sign for an apartment. I need to find out where I am going to student teach and find a sublease or full lease based on that. Oh the joys of life. I am such a planner and my plans end this spring. I don't know where I will be living or what I will be doing fall 2015 and beyond. That is scary and exciting!

I also have wine night with my roommates tonight. We watch 19 kids and counting and drink wine. Is that bad? haha. I love that show.
  • @CocoBellaF- Yes tonight will be a major release some stress workout!
  • @Swazzle - I know Lowes used to offer a 10% off entire purchase coupon with a move, not sure if they still do or not (of if you're close to a Lowes).  YAY 17 days!

@CocoBellaF - Hope Bella feels better soon!

@KeptInStitches - YAY Dress!!  For lunch, why not just do subway or something like that (there's a lot of salt in that though, but it's at least not fried).

@Hummingbird125- Yay for your dress too!!

I have lots of wedding phone calls to make today.  I have to setup a phone call with my Officiant's wife because he's booked solid between now and the wedding (she'll go over our wedding details with us; he'll go through them with us separately the day of the wedding).  I have to make a reservation for a taxi service.  I have to call the pet/house sitter and confirm my dates away.  I need to make my list for what needs to happen on Saturday.  I'm hoping to run to the bank on my lunch.  I have such 'bridal brain' and cannot focus on any one thing.

  • @Swazzle - You close so soon! That's awesome about the gift cards, that'll be such a big help.

@CocoBellaF - Aw, I hope your pup is feeling better!

Last night FI and I ran a couple of errands, grabbed takeout and watched Big Bang Theory and Gotham. I also FINALLY finished our save the dates. I meant to get them done over the weekend, but left the box at my apartment instead of taking it to FI's place. But no harm, since they are all done and going in the mail today. Woo hoo!!

Tonight I have to run a couple of other errands (bank, groceries) and then I think FI and I are just going to relax. Make dinner, watch Homeland from Sunday, be lazy bums. Ugh, it's only 10:00 and that's all I want to do!

  • Happy Tuesday!

I have a shit ton of work to do today, and I'm procrastinating, which is bad.

We're sending our list of things from the home inspection to the seller's attorney today - they have been awesome & really proactive about fixing some of the issues already, so hopefully everything will continue to move along smoothly.

Like @swazzle, my FI has a card with points & we got $650 in Home Depot gift cards in the mail yesterday!

I won't be attending a certain bridal shower this weekend because it's Homecoming, and we have four games going on at the same time. And that makes me really sad :(

  • Hi all! I've missed you!

I've finally started to settle into the new job. So far so good. The rest of the week should just be business as usual (Wake up, go to work, come home, read/ watch tv/ eat/ cuddle. Go teach on Saturday. Have a day to sleep and do nothing. Rinse and Repeat)

Last weekend was busy though. We at dinner with a friend friday night (MEXICAN. yum. it was a good restaurant, which I'm happy to add to our repetoire :) ) And then we went to visit FI's parents on Saturday night after I taught.

We finally picked a DJ too! That had been stressing me out, because I wasn't that interested and didn't feel like doing the research. FI handled most of it after I sent him an email/ advertisement I had recieved from the knot about a DJ in our area. So, YAY Fiance for giving me a break! Of course, my mom returned his contract with a ton of notes and additions, but he seemed okay with it (if a little miffed.) CHECK.

And then I did our save the dates. We had received them from Vista Print about 2 or 3 weeks ago, but I've been so busy that I just haven't had time to stuff them in the envelopes and address them. Finally did that. Figuring out the labels was annoying. For some reason mail merge was being finnicky, but I got it done! Fiance will bring them to the post office soon and stamp/ send them. I have to remember to check the wedding website and make sure everything is okay/ our registries don't have things we don't want on them....

Late review: Vistaprint was okay. I could upload my own design (I spent hours on Photoshop perfecting it, drove FI crazy going back and forth between basically the same fonts.)Vistaprint was by far the cheapest option besides doing it all myself (that I was able to find). And I would have had to buy new ink for the printer anyway, so really, it was only about $10-20 more than total DIY, and I didn't have to do any cutting, etc. So I say it was totally worth it. The printing wasn't THE BEST. Some of the colors weren't as bright as I would have liked, I noticed some blurred edges, which has never happened with vistaprint before (I use them to print all my pretty business cards which feature one of my art pieces... printing is always FABULOUS.) Fiance and parents say no one would notice any of that besides me though, and that they can barely see what I'm talking about. So, on the whole, it's fine. The only thing missing really was a pretty colored envelope. The white envelope with my very white and pastel cards seemed a little blah. But, the white envelopes were free so....

@Swazzle I always hated Home Depot as a kid... now I know why my parents loved it! I hope you have tons of fun!

  • @swazzle 17 days?! That's so exciting!

@southernpeach89 Ugh, I feel the same way right now about the gym. Haven't worked out since Saturday, ate poorly most of the weekend, feeling pretty blah. I hope you're able to get to the gym tonight!

@CocoBellaF I hope Bella feels better soon! :(

@justbeingme93 Ohhh I remember that feeling of not knowing where I'd be in a year. It's both terrifying and exhilarating. I hope your plans come together soon!

@KeptInStitches big bowl of soup or chili? Have fun trying on your dress! I can't wait to see pics once it's all finished!

@hummingbird125 What a great week this will be!

@Dignity100 ONE WEEK! Wow, time has seriously flown by. I know it's stressful right now getting everything set up for the big day, but try and enjoy these last few days as a Ms. :)

@lmcooper86 Happy dance for finishing the STDs! That's so exciting!

@GoldenPenguin lol I'm in the same boat at work. Sooooo much to do, no motivation at the moment to do it. Knotting is more fun. Crossing my fingers that everything goes smoothly for you with the house!

As for me, I'm sort of stuck in bridal brain right now too. FI and I started talking about his groomswoman yesterday and what she would wear, and that led us down a rabbit hole of stress. Dress vs. suit. If suit, what color? FI wants to wear a heather grey suit, and he suggested everyone else wear a black suit since they're easier to rent. Not too sure how that will look. He found a jacketless option in the heather grey for a rental at Jos A Banks, which I liked, but my mom said no, absolutely not to since it's an evening wedding. Also, the groomswoman said she'd be fine in a dress or suit as long as the suit is female fitted. Well, that's not going to be the easiest thing to find in a rental, so she'll probably have to buy a suit. Not sure about the cost on that. But, if she does go with a BM dress in a heather grey, I need a swatch of the suit color so I can try to match it. She'll need to order earlier than the guys get their suits because of the time it takes for the dress to come in and then have it altered if necessary, so we'd need to get all that sorted out ASAP. FI wants her in a dress because he thinks having her in a suit will be too shocking for some people (especially since her girlfriend is a BM, so seeing them together may weird people out), but I think a suit would look better and be more fun.

I never thought things like this would be a source of stress. This is dumb. Anywho, I think this weekend FI and I will go down to a Jos A Banks and see what they have for rentals, get an idea of colors and how they all look together, etc. Groomswoman can potentially buy a nice suit at a department store or Ann Taylor or even H&M that could be somewhat affordable and work later for job interviews. We just need the colors first and then we can give her some options and let her choose what she's most comfortable in. However, IF she chooses a BM dress, we'll need to get this figured out sooner than later.

I also have tons of work to do today, so I need to get on that... also need to go to the grocery store after work and then hit the gym hard for maybe 90 minutes or so. FI is working late all week (until at least 9pm), so my evenings are wide open. Last night he came home around 9:15, made some sammiches, and crawled into bed and watched an episode of Gilmore Girls with me. It was very sweet. He's such a good guy.

My Tuesday has been pretty good! I'm super busy at work this morning which has made the day good by fast! I miss H today for some reason. I just want to be with him today instead of working. Also, I already have dinner planned for tonight which includes sweet potato waffle fries and I am SO EXCITED for them!!!! What is wrong with me?

  • @severmilli12 I LOVEEEE sweet potato fries! I've made them homemade before and they were pretty good but the best I've had are the ones from Taco Mac...NOMS!
  • @eilis1228 - honestly, why not see what groomswoman would prefer to wear (suit vs dress).  As far as if she decides on a dress, it's 1 dress, so she can always try going to a department store vs a bridal store.

I have nothing going on at work.  I'm trying to make myself look busy.  I'm waiting on people for all my requests and probably won't finish them before I leave for my wedding (not going to stress it, my team lead has known about the wedding for months, not my fault he dumped a new project on me 4 days before my first day off).

I agree, just ask her what she would feel better in. Would she feel too stuffy in a suit at a wedding? This would have come up if my ex and I had ever gone down the marriage road (thank God we never did), and my thoughts were always that it would probably be easier to find a wedding party appropriate dress in the same colour as the guys wear than to try and find a suit that's fitted enough and looks wedding party appropriate.

  • THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!! Work is really busy this morning and I'm not going to be able to get on the interwebz this afternoon so I feel like a jerkface for not being able to respond to everyone individually. But thank you thank you thank you <3

  • @swazzle - Yeah for 17 days!!!

@CocoBellaF - I'm sorry Bella isn't feeling well.  Lots of hugs from me.
KeptInStitches - How about something heavy on the protein like eggs, a protein shake or a protein bar? Not a lot of bloat but filling.

@Dignity100 - So excited for you!  One week to go!!!

@Severmilli12 - Those fries sound amazing!

@eilis1228 - I think a suit or a dress would look nice.  A suit would be a lot more practical though for her to use down the road.  I wouldn't worry too much about what others are going to think about it...I wouldn't bat an eyelash either way.

@lilacck28 - I did Vista Print for our STD and I thought they were just ok.  That said, they are a LOT cheaper than going to a printer (which is what we did for invites).  Ouch!

Today is going well.  Walked/jogged to work.  I can NOT run to save my life.  Seriously, if a bear was chasing me, I'd be dead in a heartbeat.  My asthma flares up hard within a minute of running even when I take my inhaler before starting.  Its really disapointing to me and I wish I could do something about it.  For now, I'm trying to walk fast then do 1 minute of running, back to walking while I catch my breath, repeat.  Slow going.  Any tips from others with very severe asthma?

We asked her yesterday, and she said she didn't care which option she wore. I'm leaning towards a suit of some sort though. I think it will look more cohesive that way. My coworker and I were procrastinating together, and found this option that we really really like:
    image

They all look like they belong together, nothing takes away from the groom, and the groomswoman looks super cute but still feminine. Plus she can use those pieces later down the road for other things. We can easily find a pencil skirt and blazer for a decent price, and if FI wants to stick with the light grey, we'll probably be able to find a matching shade sometime this spring. If she wants slacks instead of the skirt, that's perfectly fine too--whichever she's more comfortable in.

@severmilli12 Om nom nom sweet potato fries! SO GOOD! Hey, how was your celebration of your H's sobriety? Was he totally surprised?

@lmcooper86 YAY FOR ACCOMPLISHING NOTHING THIS MORNING! Woohoo! *high five*  And you're going to NY next week? That sounds fun! Any big plans while you're there? Are you going to try to see some of the ladies here on the east coast?

@minskat30 I have the same issues with running. It's ridiculous. I had asthma as a kid but outgrew it (allegedly), but I don't think my lungs really recovered to their full strength. I cannot run to save my life. I can get on an elliptical or stair climber for an hour, but I can't run for longer than 90 seconds without feeling like death. You are not alone! I think the walk then run intervals are a really good idea. It will help build some endurance for your lungs.

@swazzle and @GoldenPenguin--what do you have planned for your Home Depot shopping sprees? Anything in particular y'all have your eyes on?

@eilis1228 - I still think you should talk to her about it. While that option is cute, is it something she will be comfortable in? No one but you will care how it looks.

So far Tuesday has not been much better than Monday. And I've been hungry since like 10 am. So I'm just going to sit in the corner by myself and grump ass it up.

  • @Ollie08 That's true. She says now that she doesn't care, but knowing her, she'll opt for a suit and then decide halfway through she doesn't like it and want to switch to a dress. I think she'll be fine as long as it's fitted and looks feminine, but we'll definitely give her some options. My only concern really regarding all that is finding a dress to match the suits if she prefers that option, which is why I'm worrying about it now. If FI opts for a darker grey for the guys, then finding a dress in darker grey shouldn't be an issue. It's the light grey that might be tricky.

  • @eilis1228 I've seen a lot of groomswomen in the same dress as bridesmaids, and it never looks weird to me.

@keptinstitches I still wanna seeeeeeee even if it's going to look really different later.

@swazzle You could buy an OVEN with all that money!

Today is mediocre. I wanted to take the day off because I had my make-up trial this morning, but I have to go in and do some actual work from 2-4. I also have an office hour at 4 I was going to reschedule, but since I'm going to work, I need to keep the office hour. I was going to take off my make-up but my make-up artist wants me to see how long and how well it lasts, so ... hopefully no undergrads comment on it. I'll post about my trial in a different thread.

I spent last night up on and off with a bad stomach ache.  I'm so tired today and my stomach is still off.  I probably should be eating blander food today.  I've been so busy at work it's been a bit crazy this morning but the day is going by fast.  I just want to go home relax and although H & I might be going out to run errands tonight.

  • @phira - nooooo, we'll also be stuck with my mom's really super-crappy cell phone camera and it's gonna look different, plus if that sucker doesn't button/zip/whatever I'm gonna be in tears and it will all end badly.
  • @swazzle-Yay for the house! Home ownership is exciting! 17 days-that's just over two weeks!

I had a meeting scheduled for 10:30, but they decided not to show up until 11:30, which kind of throws my whole morning off. Then I've got prep for expos we're going to this weekend, so basically just moving a bunch of boxes around. That's the rest of the day today and tomorrow, then unloading on Thursday, and 12 hour days Friday and Saturday.

Also hoping to make it to the gym after work today. Add me to the cranky because I haven't worked out crew.

Then I'll try to cram a whole weekend into Sunday and collapse at the end of it!

  • Re: Groomswoman
Yesterday she said she would be fine with either a dress or suit. Today we sent a few of the images we found of the pencil skirts, pants with blazer, and gowns, and now she's saying she wants a suit with pants because she doesn't like how the other stuff looks next to suits. I just wanted to give her options to figure out what she was most comfortable in. The BM gown option was the most stressful because I could see it being a PITA to match to the suits, but I didn't want to force her into something she didn't like. She'll have to buy instead of rent more than likely, but we can find suiting pieces on sale at Ann Taylor in the spring or summer with no issue. She may actually end up with the easiest piece to find/buy. lol. Now FI is saying he thinks everyone should buy a suit if they can because it looks better than rentals, and I'm having to remind him that not everyone may be able to do that... I never would have thought the suits would be a bigger headache than the BM dresses. Since all of the GMs will be in suits, we still have oodles of time to figure out the buy vs. rent situation. As long as I don't have to find and order a gown to match, there's no rush.

@severmilli12 Awww I'm glad you were able to surprise him! Sounds like a fun night for the both of you. :)
