Wedding Woes

So, AHS?

I really liked it.  I felt like it was a strong start, with a lot of really great characters making their intros.

The clown is farking scary, people.  When he was running at the girl, when he snatched the boy and that scene with is eyes darting back and forth like a Felix clock?  We did have to laugh when he was standing around watching the carnies slice up the cop, b/c you know he was thinking, "These are my people!"

But the accents?  Lange needs to just STOP.  She drops them all the time.  Just don't do it if you don't want to.  And we're trying to figure out Bates'.  She's too good an actress, but so far the guesses are all over the place.  I was thinking extreme Northern/Canadian and my old theatre prof was guessing Gullah, while someone else was saying N. Carolina.  I'm assuming we'll find out later.

I really like the look of the carnival and the set as well.  It's all so colorful, but they're really muted colors.  The carnival is it's own presence and I like that a lot.

Re: So, AHS?

  • I watched it last night too. I was surprised it was so long, but I won't complain.

I enjoyed it overall, but I agreed the clown was creepy as hell.  I had issues with the accents as well. I kept thinking what kind of accent is Kathy Bates doing? Lange's accent just bothered me and  couldn't figure out why.

I'm definitely excited to see where they take this season.

    Anniversary

  • ::skipping past all the text::

I couldn't stay up last night.  I will watch later today.
  • Jury's still a little out for me, but worth watching more of it. I guess part of it is that I don't particularly enjoy 50s retro. It's appropriate enough for the setting, I guess. It just always feels romanticized and slightly camp. And a lot of it was setting character, which can drag sometimes.

Wholeheartedly agree about the clown 8-0

Lobster Boy Jimmy will now forever be known as Jimmy Pink-and-Stink.

Glamourpuss Emma Roberts can just go away. For good. Maybe clown will eat her.

I hope Angela Bassett's Three Tit Tammy is a powerhouse of a character and not an afterthought. Marie Laveau felt underutilized and tossed to the side. I luuurved that character.

  • There's a load of people online complaining about Lange's singing in the show.

I rather thought the point of her character is that she's a wannabe star, that doesn't really have talent, so she buys it and uses it from her "monsters".  I was a bit thrown by it being a David Bowie song, but the relevance to the show can't be denied between the "Life on Mars" and Elsa Mars, to the Bowie period we're talking about, where he was being called a freak b/c of his androgyny.  And seeing her replicate the makeup was both sad and hilarious.

    Thoughts?
  • Yeah, the awful singing, the ghastly makeup, the sad, sorry overall stage production, it was all awful....that wuz the point ;). Those complainers are real sharp. Wannabe star, maybe a has-been or never-will-be, starts collecting freaks to get paying lookie-looers to see her big number. You can't get much more obvious other than print the script and synopses out in the closed captioning.

The Bowie bit missed me, but I'm not that intimately familiar with his works and eras (although I do have a general idea)

  • The makeup and the suit are directly lifted from the Life on Mars video.  Even the camera work was slightly reminiscent of it:

Labyrnith started an obsession back in the day.  :D
  • wow I had no idea..... interesting!

    Anniversary

  • I enjoyed it. And I would totally pay Jimmy for an evening. Evan Peters makes me drool.

    The clown... omg the clown!

And I think Kathy Bates' accent is along the lines to DE/MD/PA. She sounds like some of my relatives from those areas.

YES.  It's almost hard to listen to what she is saying because I'm focused on the damn accent.

Agreed.  I thought she should have been a much bigger part of Coven.

I also thought the bad singing was part of the failed star story.  It makes sense.  Frances Conroy even pointed it out, calling it "caterwauling" and "pathetic".

Bearded lady's son is lobster boy.  Poor woman can't catch a break.  ;)
  • I did not even catch the david bowie thing!!!

I'm obsessed with the conjoined twins, it's adorable how one is dark and morbid and the other is all cheery and bubbly.

    I also hate lange's accent. It's awful.
