Re: Lower Cost Ring and Wedding = successful marriage?

  • Praise the Lord! We are going to make it based on this article! I was really having my doubts, you guys, but this article has validated my entire relationship and my upcomming nuptuals. Finally I have some relief and can breathe easy again!image

  • This is just a ridiculous article. Of course I've had it trending on my FB newsfeed. Guess by who? Only by those whom I know had no wedding reception or have (seemingly) less costly rings. I think these specific people sharing it are self conscious and feel they have to validate themselves.

To me, it is like saying hahaha see you there with your fancy ring and fancy wedding, it's all for nothing because you'll be ending up in divorce, I know because it's PROVEN now. Like, yeah thanks for wishing me a divorce.

My first marriage ended in divorce despite the better odds predicted by this criteria.
It was trending on mine, but by single self-proclaimed bachelors who didn't want to have to shell any money for an e-ring. PFT

  • Eh, I wouldn't get offended by anything proven by statistics. I work in the medical device and pharmaceutical world - people can use statistics to prove anything they like.

Like for instance - there is a direct correlation in the decline of pirates in the world compared to the increased average temperature and the melting of the polar ice caps. See below accurate chart.

So that must mean that the lack of pirates is causing global warming right? :-)

    Oh statistics and the LoL's...

LOL. But it's proven right there in your chart!

I'm not offended by statistics. I just find people using these nonsensical studies and stats to judge or push their agenda eye-roll worthy.
  • In case anyone is really concerned about the findings of this study (snort), I wanted to put your mind at ease. According to this study, my first marriage was doomed. Yes, it did end in divorce, but not because of financial issues. Financial issues and how we planned the wedding were the least of our concerns. So, you can breathe easier and sleep well at night knowing the real story. LOL

  • Welp, I better call H and tell him it's over.

WAIT!!!!!!!!! What if we have a PPD and spend less than $10K on it? He can buy me another ring for less than $2K. Then, we're good, right?

Excellent idea! Since you're redoing everything that was so undesirable/wrong the first time around, you can set things right with your REAL wedding!!!

  • Well I'm in the clear with my ring I think, we're still setting a budget for the wedding though...

  • Know what causes divorce? Marriage. There's causation for ya.

Also, this reminds me of that radio call that went viral a few years ago with that lady wanting the county to move the "deer crossing" signs. You see, asking the deer to cross at that part of the road was causing a lot of car accidents, and they were being really irresponsible by making the deer cross there. She seriously thought a deer crossing was like a school crossing and the deer were heeding the sign.
    Wow.

How the hell did I miss this? People are sooooooo dumb sometimes. I just can't wrap my mind around that.

  • OK so apparently it turned out to be a prank. But it's still hilarious.

  • Guess I'm super doomed for divorce..

But my wedding was the average cost in this part of Texas.

  • I saw this yesterday on an Instagram post and was going to tag my BF in it, but decided to read the actual article first (I didn't think at about $2500, the ring I want would be considered expensive). I opted to tell him, "Hey, I don't think we count since we wouldn't be spending money we didn't have." Lol
  • Honestly, this statistic could be true, but it isn't something for anyone to worry about because a bigger ring does not magically equal divorce. It just might possibly mean that with in the people who get larger, more expensive rings you are going to have certain groups in larger numbers than in the smaller ring category.

For example there will be the group where the woman says, "unless my ring is X amount of carats, or cost X amount of dollars don't bother asking (with X equaling some amount far higher than is reasonable.) That trouble in the marriage right there. You will also have in that group Men who have an idea that you can buy love. So everything they do and buy is about big and expensive. Again, not a good start to love. And then you have the group who both make very little, but spend far too much on the wedding, on the ring, etc... and it's simply a sign they don't manage money well. again, a bad start to a marriage.

So all I'm saying is, the study might be true because it nessesarily hold certain at risks groups of people, but expensive rings are not magic rings that mean you are getting a divorce.

    We're doomed!

Maybe we can eat ice cream and drink martinis together when we both get divorced!
