Special Scent?

I don't know if we've talked about this before, but for all you Knotties our there already married or about to get married: are you planning on wearing some sort of special perfume/scent for the wedding or do you stick with your regular everyday one? I feel like I want a brand new one just for the day of so that every time I smell it afterwards it'll remind me of that special day and I can reminisce happily. They do say that scent triggers the most memories.

So I was thinking of going classic and fresh with Ralph Lauren's Romance (my everyday perfume is Hypnotic Poison of Dior). I love everything vanilla or fruity, smells like cake or cream but I did wanna go different for the wedding day. And I don't want to have an overpowering scent the day of. What do you think? Any suggestions from the married ladies out there?

  • It's a nice idea. I'd test out the perfume several times though to make sure it mixes well with your body chemistry. I think any perfume you wear that day will remind you of your wedding, despite how many times you've worn it before.

Yep I thought I'd do just that since I have a couple of months to go!

  • This made me think: I don't think I put on any perfume on my wedding day.  I did make sure DH wore Polo Black because I love the way it smells on him but I'm fairly certain I wore nothing at all.

  • I've heard of people doing this. I just plan for FI and I  (I guess that's what he will do) will just wear our special perfume or cologne. I usually wear just a Bath and Body Work (Moonlight Path) for everyday wear and D&G Light Blue for special occasions. FI doesn't wear cologne except for special occasions and he wears either B&G Light Blue or Burberry Touch.

  • @emmaaa I know FI will stick to his own (Chrome United by Azzaro) since he's not a perfume fiend. I also get him all his perfumes as a present every year. The Romance by Ralph Lauren comes into a rollerball too so I won't have to buy a whole bottle!

  • Do it! Any chance to spoil yourself and buy some new and fancy perfume, is okay in my book!

  • FI bought me my favorite type of Chanel perfume for Christmas last year (right after we got engaged) which I thought was incredibly sweet. I don't wear it often because it's so expensive but it is definitely going to be my "special scent" on our wedding day, especially since it was a gift from him :)

I say go for it, if it's something that will be special for you.

  • If you don't wear the same one all the time like me, I don't see why not. Scent is a pretty powerful memory trigger. I only ver wear one thing though, so I'd not do it myself.

  • @novella1186 Ouuh now am curious, which one is it?

@amelisha That's the thing though I've been wearing the same one for three years and I don't mind it at all. I just wanted to maybe wear something new for the wedding to make it that extra special (if that makes any sense).

  • I think that's a great idea! Scents tend to trigger really strong memories in me. Whenever I smell sweet pea by Bath and Body Works, it brings me back to my college days, since I used to wear that all the time back then.

This post reminded me that I need to buy new perfume. My every day perfume is Hot Couture by Givenchy, so I don't really want  to wear it on my wedding day. I was considering wearing Spring Flower by Creed, but Creed is pretty expensive. Another scent I'm thinking of is Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I love that scent, and have not worn it much in the past, so I think it would be a great scent for the wedding day.

  • @pinkcow13 Yes Creed is quite expensive but you can splurge once in a while :) By the way I love Hot Couture. I have some problems with Chanel perfumes in general cause they remind me of scents for a more mature women in general (like my mum or grandma). But my sister wears Coco Mademoiselle and this one is a bit fresher. I also love Bonbon by Viktor and Rolf, it just came out I think.

  • I just wore my regular perfume. I contemplated buying a new scent (one that I'm thinking of buying anyway, so I was just using the wedding as an excuse really!), but I just got lazy and it was one of the first things crossed off the list as unimportant.
  • I honestly can't remember if I put my perfume on or not (my "good" one is Armani Acqua Di Gioia). I know I brought it with me, but I think I forgot to put it on. I can't really smell it on myself after about 5 minutes anyway. :-/

Mademoiselle. Same one my mom wore for special nights out when I was growing up. I've tried Chanel No. 5 but honestly to me it smells awful.

  • All my perfume stuff depends on the weather. Hotter weather: lighter scent. Colder weather: heavier scent. I have a buuuuunch that I rotate.

I actually hate Chanel No. 5 with a fiery passion!

@lolo883 I don't know how true it is but I've heard before that the best way to know a perfume really works with your PH is when you can't smell any of it but everybody else can!

  • I just got a new perfume for that exact reason.
I ended up going on Prada Candy since I like the really sweet scents.

That's what I was thinking - I should splurge on the fancy perfume for my wedding/honeymoon :) Yea, Coco Mademoiselle is the only Chanel scent I really like. Any other Chanel is too mature for my taste. Totally reminds me of my mom - who loves Chanel lol. Oh, I think I smelled Bonbon, it smells really amazing.

I don't wear perfume. I don't even own a fancy kind!!! I never had money for that kind of thing, and now that I do I work in a place where I'm not allowed to wear it. lol

FI sometimes wears cologne to fancy events, and I wouldn't want him to change it for the wedding! I would want him to smell the way he always does.

Now I'm thinking twice about perfume. I wouldn't even know how to start finding a kind to wear.

  • Wow a lot of you ladies are so fancy with your perfumes =)
I've always been Bath and Body works girl and I always go for the fresh nature scent stuff, especially since I only have one perfume at a time.

I lIke the idea of a special scent just for your wedding and then when you have special nights with your then H, after the wedding you can wear it and up all the feels.

  • I'm really big on the Chanel Chance, and that would have been the one that I bought!

Yeah...I'm assuming I'll pack one I really like for when I get dressed...and then have way too many other things to do to remember  something so small!

@larrygaga It was hard for me too at first to find something I liked but I realised that as soon as there was a certain common denominator in perfumes, I would end up loving it. For me it's apricot, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, bitter almond, crisp green apple and a tinge of wood. Basically I like to smell like a massive vanilla sponge cake with vanilla buttercream frosting lol. I don't like anything flowery or powdery. Now if you know some things that you like to smell in general (not bacon!!!) then you can start there :)

@falsara Yes that's where I'm going with this!

ETD I swear to God I cannot spell for shit.

  • I get bored with perfume, so I rotate it bunches. I used to wear Twilight Woods (Bath and body works all the time) then I started wearing Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday. My kick lately has been Miskatonic  University by Black Pheonix Alchemy Lab. (Although today I put on Bordello and it's making me all sneeezy, so that was a bad idea.)

I think for my wedding I wore an Elizabeth Arden perfume, but I can't remember.

    I mean a bunch lol

    Versace: Yellow Diamond, Crystal Noir
Michael Kors: Michael Kors (I like redundancy lol)
Jo Malone: Pomegranate Noir, Red Roses, Nectarine Blossom & Honey
    Ralph Lauren: Hot
Shalimar (you have to put that shit on like an hour before you leave so it can mellow and you will only smell like a former prostitute instead of a current one. Don't judge me, I like smelling like a retired prostitute.)
    Tom Ford: Black Orchid

I have a bunch of samples of other ones but I can't remember the names. It's weird, I have all of these, but I only wear perfume maybe 2-3 times a month, if that. If I'm trying to be fancy, I wear perfume.

Oh also, I'm about to buy Feminin Pluriel by Maison Francis Kurkdijan in the next couple months. I think it'll be nice for winter.

  • @beethery Yes I got the "bunch" part, just wanted to know what you by "bunch" as in the number of bottles you have :P  But jeez woman YOU IS FANCY. Shalimar will always remind me of my childhood as my mum would wear it sometimes. I agree about the mellowing part, but you end up smelling like a very expensive former prostitute more than a cheap one if you ask me!

@mrsb53 Congrats on just getting married :) Escada seems to have more of those fruity scents don't they? I remember having a bottle of Moon Sparkle and it smelled like fresh crushed thyme with peach puree.
