November 2015 Weddings

Flower choices

What kinds of flowers are you all looking at?  I am looking for an inexpensive flower but that comes in pink.  Want to get ideas before I meet with florist in the coming weeks.

Re: Flower choices

  • I'm working with a tight budget, and I am looking to use mums for the centerpieces (in apple baskets) since they are inexpensive, and seasonal.  I don't have specific colors, just fall colors.  Bridesmaids are wearing navy blue, groomsmen are wearing dark gray.  For bouquets I'm going to stop by Trader Joe's in early November to see what their options are.  Two of my friends did their own bouquets using them and they came out amazing- you couldn't tell they made them themselves. For 7 bouquets, and 6 boutonnieres, I think she spent around $250-$300?
  • @kk111415 those are my colors too!!!!  I think it is such a classic color all things will look great with it!!!
  • @Jeannine12 Love it!  Just went to take engagement photos this weekend and saw a wedding party in navy blue and the groomsmen in gray and it looked amazing! Totally reassured me that I was making the right decision.  Some how myself and all of my bridesmaids have blue eyes so the navy blue will really bring out everyone's eyes!  I agree, it's such a classic color and fall colors work very well against it!
  • Flowers are included in my venue so that's good. I'm going with fall colors that are in season.

My wedding colors are petal, dark green (emerald doesn't look quite look like emerald in the David's Bridal colors), and either sangria or raspberry. My great grandmother loved roses and passed that on to me. I'm thinking of pale pink roses for my bouquet and some hanging ivy to get the green in there!
  • I know literally zero about flowers, so I left that up to my florist. They suggested blue hydrangeas with some white and blue orchids, which sounded fine to me. We'll also be throwing in some homemade palm leaf roses, since those hold personal significance for me and my FI.

We are doing a combination of white roses and white hydrangeas, mixed with blue and purple dendrobium orchids. Very tropical for the winter beach wedding.  I dont care what season is it lol

I think your venue would know best, but probably the more specific your ideas are, the earlier. I really don't care too much about the flowers but I wanted to get as many vendors booked as far in advance as possible because KW is small and only has a certain number of vendors for each service.

  • @flutteringinfl‌ the florist emailed me back and said we don't need to meet until July or August and already has us booked so I guess I'm ok timewise. I'm like you, I want to have it all done lol

  • We bought a lot of fake (I know, I know) flowers from a florist who was going out of business. The very next day, my grandma called to say she wanted to grow some to match my colors. So we'll probably do a combination of both of those. As far as hiring one would go, if I were hiring, I'd be with you. The earlier the better.
  • I'm using fake flowers for my centerpieces.  My fiance's aunt made centerpieces for her church to sell and she hot glued fake flowers onto a pumpkin and cut down the stem.  She said they last for months since the pumpkin isn't cut.  And my fiance's mom works at a store where she can order any variation I want (and I get a discount!) So I'm just going to go up to her house and work on them with the ladies in the family as a little project.  I'm also doing my own bouquets which a lot of my friends did for their weddings.  Looks like sunflowers will be very popular and cheap at the time of my wedding.  Might get the filler from a florist though.
  • I'm not into flowers for decoration purposes. I LOVE flowers for people though. I plan on doing flowers for myself, groom, groom's son, parents (2 steps), and the groom's grandmother who I want to honor because she will be the only grandparent present and alive.

I am thinking pretty basic, like roses, baby's breath, astromerias, ect. I'll talk to my florist and discuss it in more detail. I trust their judgements.

  • I was going to go with gerbera daisies in red and orange to accent the plum dresses but after going to 3 florists and getting quotes it's not happening. Then I thought I would make my own bouquets, 7 in total. Costco sells the daisies and baby's breath I needed for cheap. I wasnot thrilled about that because I was still going to need to order corsages and boutineres from the florist. Plus I was going to have to sit there the Friday before my wedding making bouquets! but then I found something else. I found on Etsy burlap flower bouquets. They are perfect for my rustic/fall wedding. The best part is I don't have to make my bouquets anymore, so I can relax and not stress! I am getting my 7 bouquets, 4 corsages, 7 boutineers, and 40 stemmed burlap flowers in natural and plum for the centerpieces for like $350! All I need to get is dried baby's breath from micheals for my centerpieces. These worked for me, it may be worth taking a look! I like it because I can order them all now and have them for November! Good luck! flowers have been my least favorite part of planning!
