Not Engaged Yet

Happy Monday!

Hello everybody!!  Happy Monday!!  I hope everybody had a great weekend!

I'm pretty tired today and just trying to 'fake it' at the moment.  I went to go get coffee and there was none - the pots were not washed out and I don't know where the cafe keeps anything so I ended up with hot chocolate instead (but I'm drinking it out of my Disney Resort Mug).  Friday night, I don't even remember what we did.  I think I fell asleep on the couch super early.  Saturday night I was on-call so I kept getting stupid work alerts and having to sign in and fix stuff.  During the day Saturday my SIL had a Thirty-One party, so I went to that, then H and I went to the computer store to buy some USB drives to put our pictures on and we drove past a few houses that I was curious about (even though we're not ready to buy).  Sunday I got more alerts during the night and was up between like 4AM-7AM, so I slept in and it was glorious.  When I got up, I started a crock-pot pot roast, we got ready went to H's house to drop the pot roast off, and then to Lowes to get a key made.  After that we watched the Browns game.

H tried to talk to his brother about the roof.  The conversation went like this:
H "I think I'm just going to go with the cheapest quote for the roof"
BIL "Why wouldn't you go with the cheapest, go with the cheapest"
H "Because if I go with the other guy, there's a better warranty on it.  If you were planning on staying here, I'd go with the better one"
BIL "Oh"
H "OK ... nice talking to you?"

I just wish I knew BIL's plans!!  H wants to have kids, but we're an older couple and I don't think my house is really all that great for a kid (stairs + 2 giant dogs that often knock us down the stairs; plus it's just really really really small).  I've been telling H, I'm fine with being pregnant and moving, but he needs to know that we would HAVE to be working towards moving.  I just feel like right now our life is on hold until BIL decides what he wants to do and it's obvious BIL doesn't want to talk about it.  I've asked H to maybe just put forth OUR timeline to at least let him know he has a year to save up to either buy H's house or find a place of his own.

    it's your H's house.  you don't need to know your BIL's plans.  BIL is an adult, he will deal.  I'm not sure why you all are letting him squat there (because really, that's what he's doing) indefinitely!

    I was sick with a stomach bug or food poisoning all weekend.  I'm feeling better today, thankfully... I don't really have any leave since this is a new job.

    I have a lot to get caught up on tonight, since I was sick all weekend.

    only 2 more Saturday classes, a final exam, and then my PMP exam.  almost done!  I can't wait to have my Saturdays back.

    ETA:  I haven't had any coffee yet!  Happy Monday to you too, except I wish it was Friday and not Monday!!

    the coffee is brewing now.  I picked up a bag from a local shop.  she said it's their most popular bean, but it has a slight sweet smell so I'm afraid there will be an uprising in the office for it not being Folgers or something.
  • Happy Monday to you too! @Dignity100

    I had a fantastic weekend filled with family and wedding-related stuff. Saturday morning I drove out to Long Island and met my mom at a floral designer's shop. I LOVED this woman. I did not expect to ever get excited over wedding flowers, but this woman completely changed that for me. She looked at my Pinterest board with me, asked me tons of questions, and really "got" the look I'm going for. She also had great suggestions about how to make the space look more formal. We went over a lot of centerpiece ideas and I love what we came up with - all of a sudden I can really visualize what our venue will look like when it's all decorated, and I think it's going to turn out so much better than I had ever planned. On the downside, everything we discussed is going to be a LOT more than I ever planned on spending for flowers. Fortunately, my grandfather is paying for the flowers... I just have no idea what he planned on spending. We received a formal proposal from the florist yesterday and my mom is going to go over it with my grandpa and see what he thinks. Even if we need to negotiate and trim some items from our plan, I think we're still going to go with this woman because she seems so awesome at what she does.

    After that, I went to get my hair styled at a place @cu97tiger found for me. It came out great, and I thiiiiink I'm going to use them for the wedding, but I still have a little time to decide. After that, I went out to lunch with my mom and youngest sister. Post-lunch, my sister and I went to DB because she wanted to try on bridesmaid dresses, but they were completely packed so she wasn't able to.

    FI and I had plans to go out in the city that night, and instead of driving home and taking the train in with him, I suggested I just drive into the city and meet him somewhere. My little sister had been hanging out with her boyfriend at my mom's house, and they were trying to figure out their plans for the night, so I asked them to come into the city with me. I never expected them to say yes - but they did! I got to go out with my newly-21-year-old sister and drank with her for the first legal time ever! It felt reeeaally strange to go bar-hopping with someone who's still about 10 years old in my mind, but it was a lot of fun. They took the train home, and FI and I drove home and got there around 12:30.

    Sunday was a completely lazy day, but I did manage to address about half of my Save-the-Dates. I'm still waiting on FI to get addresses for most of his family members. Hopefully he'll get them today so I can mail everything out tomorrow!

  • any pictures of flower inspiration, @Hummingbird125?  it sounds like you had a good trip!
  • @CocoBellaF - H is letting him stay there.  I know his brother WAS in a really bad spot, but now he just doesn't know how to save which somehow has become our problem.  I don't want to push too much because it is H's house and I know I'm not in the best of shape with my house (bought it when the market was high and now I owe more on the house than it's currently worth).  I do think H needs to just let his brother know 'I'm not kicking you out now, but I am planning on selling the house in X number of month; if you want to buy it, let me know; otherwise you need to help get it cleaned up in order to start showing it'.  It's so irritating because I don't want to overstep my bounds and I told H that I feel that our life is on hold a bit because of his brother and I can see us going to his brother in a year and say 'OK, we want to sell' and his brother acting like it came from nowhere and asking for another year to save up or decide.  SO ANNOYING!!  I'm going to try to just not push until around Thanksgiving.  I'm glad you're feeling better from your stomach bug.

    @Hummingbird125 - So glad your floral appointment went so well!!  I have to admit, I didn't LOVE my bouquet and wish I would have been able to provide more samples or voice my opinion better.  It sounds like you had a really really great weekend!

    @Southernpeach89 - Maddux is such a little ham!

  • @hummingbird125 I love the flowers!!!

    @southernpeach89 Maddux is adorable!!! It makes me want a dog.

    My weekend was pretty good.  I had off on Friday and I ran a ton of errands.  I was home the rest of the day/evening.  I finished up reading Eat Pray Love & I didn't like it at all.  I am now rereading Mockingjay.  Saturday we were bums and mostly stayed in the house watching college football and playing a new games H bought.  The games were a lot of fun.  We ordered take out for dinner and continued playing until about 2am. Sunday was more relaxing, game playing football watching.  We went out to dinner and came back just in time for The Walking Dead.

    Yay our floors should be getting done towards the end of next week.  I am so excited!!!!!! Then the kitchen will pretty much be done except for a few small painting jobs and H wants play around with some of the lighting.

  • I'm not here yet. Leave your name, number, and a message containing short words and I will be back once I have found coffee. Which I gather puts me in some pretty darn good company.
  • @Hummingbird125 - Love your flower choices! The 3rd pic (of the aisle) is exactly what I was shooting for. Unfortunately my flowers were delivered to the wrong address...but I did get some great metal buckets at www.save-on-crafts.com. You should check them out if you're doing these DIY. Or if you want to supply less expensive ones for your florist. They have great deals.

    @Southernpeach89 - Maddux is such a handsome boy! I want to see more pics though!!!

    @Swazzle - any more news about the house? I've been thinking of you two all weekend...

    @CocoBellaF - Glad you're feeling better today. Sick time is no fun!

  • @TwoDimes - my mom was the SAME WAY.  I let her win most of those arguments, and I regret it now.  HOLD STRONG.

    @allusive007 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!  :)
  • @allusive007 - I loooove all of your nursery buys! I can't wait to see photos of your completed nursery.

    @Hummingbird125 - Love the flowers.  Any hair pictures?

    @TwoDimes - I LOVE days like that.

    ----------------------------------------

    Our weekend was a complete mixed bag....all over the place kind of mixed bag. Saturday we installed our floors (I'll AW the whole project when we finish it)...they look GREAT. While we were doing that, however, the internet guys were supposed to install our internet.  It has been THREE MONTHS since we requested it but they had to dig a line underground.  They finally dug one but where did they dig it to? The middle of nowhere so now they have to redig.  More importantly, the guys left our gate open and my dog ran away.  I got a frantic call from H (who was at Home Depot) that someone had found him in the middle of the street about six blocks away so I raced there.  Thank God he was ok...he was in  middle of a very, very busy street.  After that I was a sobbing mess for the rest of the day after I tore the internet guys a new one for leaving the gate open.

    Sunday we had trick'or'treaters and H and I kept getting in little spats all day over Home Depot stuff, timing on when I wanted to be home vs he wanted to watch a game, etc. We both made some dumb comments about how we were each contributing/not contributing. Then we made up so we are all good but the stress of the weekend was a lot.

  • @cocobellaf, glad you're feeling better!

    @hummingbird125, pretty bouquet inspirations!

    @allusive007, happy birthday!

    I had a really good weekend! Friday night I watched the Royals beat the Giants in the World Series while knitting. 'Twas glorious. Oh come now, the Giants win way too much anyway.

    Saturday I spent most of the day knitting while FI worked on the house. It was our six-year anniversary, so we went out to the country club and I had the best chicken cordon bleu I've ever eaten in my life.

    Yesterday FI and I spent the day at my parents' house. My mom and I blocked four more blankets - three for the show and one for my cousin who is due in December. We also talked about logistics for the wedding, especially seating VIPs since we're not planning to have ushers. When it was just the two of us, my mom tried to make me feel guilty about not wanting a rehearsal. I know I need one because we need to time everything out, but I really don't want to do it because I know we can't pay for a rehearsal dinner unless it's pizza and beer. Told her that and ... it did not go over well.

    But it was a good day overall.
  • @allusive007 Happy birthday! I love all of the nursery items they look great together.  Your H is so sweet he got you such thoughtful gifts!

  • @Dignity100 - I agree with @cocobellaf, it's your H's house and you guys are married now. It's not unreasonable for you to move in or for him to sell the house so you can buy something together. His brother sounds like a mooch.

    @CocoBellaF - I'm glad you're feeling better! Stomach bugs are the suck.

    @Hummingbird125 - I'm so happy the florist went well! I love those flower inspiration pics. I wish there was also a pic of your hair.

    @southernpeach89 - Maddux is the cutest pup! What did you wear for your pics?

    @Peaseblossom55 - I can't wait to see your kitchen all done!

    @allusive007 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love all of the nursery stuff so so much! Your H is so sweet! As of now, we haven't heard anything. My realtor really thinks that the seller will be able to work something out with the bank and we will somehow manage to close this week but I really don't know. We're completely in the dark. H is calling the building next to us on his lunch break to see if they have an apartment available and if not then we have to put everything in storage, send the cats and dog to my parents' house and we'll be staying with my aunt until we figure out WTF we're doing with our lives. It's such a nightmare :(

    @TwoDimes - Yum buffalo chicken dip!

    @minskat30 - How scary! I'm so glad your pup is ok!!

    @KeptInStitches - What kind of ceremony are you having? I feel like I should know this. We didn't have a rehearsal but our ceremony was really straight forward.

  • H and I went to the Devils game on Friday night and then my parents came home from their trip Saturday so we met them at the airport and went out to dinner. Other than that, I didn't move from my couch. It was not a great weekend. I'm trying to force myself out of this mood/funk today but it's hard.

  • @swazzle - FI and I are ELCA Lutheran, and we're planning to use whatever wedding service our pastor is currently using. We don't have a copy of the ceremony yet. It should be a fairly straight-forward Christian wedding, but we chose a nocturne by Chopin for our processional, and we need to sort out how much of the nocturne we need with our piano player.
  • @allusive007, happy birthday! you're husband is SO sweet. I like the nursery furniture!

    @twodimes I really think the older generation is so into the "matchyness" because that's how their weddings were. My parents got married in the 80s when all the bridesmaids worse the same poofy dress and all had their shoes dyed to match!
    I am NOT matchy matchy at all. My mom is insisting that my dad's suit matches FI's and the guys' because apparently it's supposed to. I told her I don't care if it does and my dad should wear what he wants since everyone will know he's the FOB since he's walking me down the aisle.
    FI and I both like gray for him and his guys and I couldn't care less if they're all wearing the same shade but I have a feeling he might.

  • @swazzle thanks I'm so excited for it to be all done. I'll post pics when it is.   I'm sorry about the house stuff.  I do hope it get resolved soon so you can close this week.  Still praying and sending good vibes for you.

    Anniversary

  • @allusive007- I'll definitely post more once I get them back from our photographer...hopefully this week. Happy Birthday!!! I love your nursery buys! So cute!

    @Swazzle - I wore black skinny jeans with my tall black boots, a long dark jean button down with a dark gray sweater over it. They are all from Ann Taylor Loft.

    H wore a gray sweater with a red plaid shirt underneath. I'll have to find the link to my outfit...I think it's on their website.

  • @allusive007 - Happy Birthday!!  Love your nursery items!

    @TwoDimes - Glad you had a wonderful time with your FI!

    @minskat30 - I can't wait to see your floors!

    @Swazzle - H is moving in with me, but my house is TINY.  His house doesn't have a backyard.  It's a crappy added expense, but could you look at something at like an 'extended stay' hotel?  If your H calls and there's an apartment available, would you be backing out of the house deal or trying to just extend 3 months?

    Anniversary
  • @Dignity100 - Well, we're not really planning on backing out of the house deal at all but if the seller can't close by November 3rd, then he's in breach of our contract and the bank may be taking over the house. I don't know if H and I have the patience to deal with that and we have to be out of our apartment before November 1st.

  • "Happy Monday", isn't that an oxymoron?

    We had a pretty good weekend. I edited most of Friday night, and part of Saturday afternoon to finish up my most recent family shoot. I got it out in less than a week, which is awesome! Saturday we had Little O's soccer game in the morning, and then spent the afternoon/evening with Q's BFF.

    Sunday we went to church and ran to Goodwill and Walmart to try and find cheap pieces for the girls' school Halloween costumes. They call it the Storybook Parade, but it's held on or around Halloween every year. My oldest has to be a character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Little O has to be a character from a Dr. Seuss book. She wants to be the Cat in the Hat (which is funny since her favorite book is Green Eggs and Ham). I've struck out in both places, so now I have to take them shopping tonight. Yay for me.
