Screw tradition. We're eating the cake tonight.

  • We got married on a cruise ship and weren't allowed to take food off the ship, so that meant no taking the cake home. But, we ate the leftover cake throughout the week during the cruise and it was so yummy!  I doubt we will do a 1st anniversary cake.

  • We hadn't anticipated saving the top layer, but DH's granny wrapped it up and froze the top layer of both the wedding cake and the groom's cake. We currently have two 6" cakes taking up room in the freezer (argh!). One is white cake withe lemon curd filling and one is chocolate, chocolate chip cake with peanut butter filling. I don't know when we are going to eat it, maybe the groom's cake on NYE and I guess we'll hold out and see what cake tastes like after a year...
  • Well, we don't do cake; So I took the top tier into work the Tuesday after the wedding.
What do you mean you don't do cake? This does not compute.

We don't do cake either- we both hate it. A friend of mine is opening her own bakery and offered to make one for free for practice/ advertising. So we said what the hell, we weren't planning to have one but if it's free why not. There was apple crisp for dessert.

So she made it with black fondant at my request (for our fave sports team) and it was disgusting. We posed for a picture with it because it looked pretty but we served each other a bite and it was not good. So we left it on display with plates for people to serve themselves and nobody did since they were full from the apple crisp.

We really wanted to throw it out but my MOH's sister was the baker, so MOH literally wrapped it up herself and INSISTED we bring it home and freeze it. We didn't want to be rude and tell her it sucked so we smiled and brought it home. Then threw it in the trash at home.

Now, was the cake itself horrible or just the fondant?  I absolutely hate fondant and will never eat cake with fondant on it.  I'm not a fan of cake to begin with, but I am a fan of frosting. The only reason I ever eat cake is for the frosting. Our wedding cake was super moist with a Bavarian cream filling and the most wonderful buttercream frosting. For someone that generally doesn't like cake, I have to say that Carnival Cruise Lines knows how to make an awesome cake.

Yea we tried to peel the fondant off which left out fingers stained black, and the cake itself was pretty dry. When we were in Cancun we couldn't get enough of the resort's tres leches cake- even though we don't like cake it was just so moist lol

  • Our wedding was in the morning and our reception was over by like 230. So we ate the rest of our cake for dinner that night.
  • We got married in Hawaii, so I don't think we could bring it back over the border.  I would have kept it in the hotel room at least but I totally forgot and have no idea what happened to it after the wedding.  I hope the hotel staff enjoyed it

  • Our venue cut the top tier up to serve and then our bottom tier which did get taken home was not stored properly so the only piece of cake we even got was the small piece that was cut....great tasting piece though.
  • Erm, you can save cake? If it's in the house, I will eat it. I didn't get this big ass by avoiding cake.
  • Guys, the cake was not good. I was so disappointed! The cake itself and the frosting tasting great, but the strawberries were awful! They tasted rotten. We ended up throwing it out.

Alright. We aren't going to broadcast that it's ice cream cake anyway. We are going to cut it and eat it and have it not be a big deal, because we don't care about cake.

I'm still working to convince buying parties that we should do ice cream cake for all.
We had a cake, but we also had little containers of Hagen Daas and Blue Bell ice cream in chocolate and vanilla for everyone who wanted one. We had no ice cream left.  It was a hit with the cake.  If you budget allows and the venue/powers that be won't budge on ice cream cake for all, you might try this route.  Our caterer provided little tapas spoons for this, but you can buy them from Smarty had a party and such like.

eta: words are hard before the second cup of coffee.

Awww major bummer - that stinks!    On a good note?   Gives you something to do for your 2nd month anniversary....get cupcakes like your cake or a smaller version of your cake.  Either way bad cake means you totally get a do-over (of wedding cake, nothing else of course).  :)

    That's a great idea!
