Favors

Is this a dumb idea?

Hi ladies!

So I've been mulling over what to give as favors and I think I have a game plan but I wanted a professional opinion.

I'm putting Lindor truffles in a bag that will double as the escort card (a nice white cardboard bag/box with the guests name and table number on the front)

My mom and I will be making chocolate lollipops together and closing them with ribbons that have FI and my name and the date.

My last idea was to put a small thing of bubbles at every plate so people can play with them throughout the reception and while they're dancing (in lieu of a knick knack they have to bring home). I'm sure not everyone will use them but I know most will and it's not something I'll be upset to see left on a table after the guests leave.

I'm having a photobooth where the attendants frame the pics for the guests too so I'm hoping no one side eyes that I didn't spring for a fucking heart shaped bottle opener for everyone.

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

    Keep the food items.

Photobooth is ok.  I'm not entirely sure that as a guest, I would care about a frame (if those are costing you extra).  If they are those strip of four traditional photobooth type pictures or a poloroid-type, then I wouldn't want a frame.  That's the sort of thing I'm likely going to tack on my bulletin board at work or hang on my fridge, not display in a frame on my desk/mantle/hallway table.  You'd just be wasting your money.

No to bubbles.  1.  They can potentially stain some fabrics, like silk or satin.  If I wore a silk blouse or dress to your wedding and had people blowing bubbles on me, I would be pissed and you'd be getting a bill in the mail.  2.  I wouldn't want people potentially blowing bubbles that will eventually land on my plate, silverware, or drinking glasses.  3.  Those little wedding favor type bottles of bubbles are lame - unless you're giving me those big ol' bottles of bubbles in the toy aisle that actually make awesome bubbles, then no.  But if you're planning on those big ol' awesome bottles, go back to numbers 1 and 2.

ETA:  No one is going to side-eye not getting a bottle opener.  In fact, most people hate knick-knack favors if you look at the posts on this board (or at least are indifferent).  Edible is always your best bet.  So if the only reason you're having the bubbles or the photobooth is because you feel compelled to give people a physical token to take home, then save your money.  Also, favors are never required.  People aren't going to remember whether you gave them a favor, though they might remember getting a tacky one or useless one.  In fact, I was just reading an article this week (an actual article, not a wedding-industry produced blog post) about how people remember how they were treated at the wedding, not how the centerpieces looked or whether they received a favor.
  • I think what you have sounds fine.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Yay to everything except the bubbles.  Please, no bubbles.
  • You can use the photo booth to have the photos of the guests and give those photos as favors to them.
  • Thanks for the input!  I thought the bubbles might be too much but the idea of it was fun.  I'd also be worried about them spilling in guests // the floor and ensuing slippage.

The photobooth comes with its own attendants and the frames are included (nothing fancy, just a clear frame so the picture can stand).

Thanks again for saving me the money and potential headache!

  • Yay for no bubbles!

Also, I wouldn't take the truffles or chocolate lollipop--I don't eat chocolate at all.  Chocolate is popular, but that's a lot of chocolate.  I don't think you need both.

    Don't worry, I'll take yours. ;)
  • Thanks everyone!

I'm still up in the air about the lollipops since I'm making them myself.

Any feelings on a small mimosa kit for the next day?  I'd put a mini bottle of champagne with a small bottle of OJ at each station.  Maybe with a glass and tie that bad boy up with a pretty ribbon

  • I like the your ideas! Hell, I even like the bubbles. I plan on having a kids corner at my reception and thought it could be a fun extra for them.

With the photobooth, if it's includes go ahead. Although I went to a wedding where there were frames and I didn't want them.

As for the mimosa kits, where will you place them?

  • At the place settings was my thought so everyone sees them rather than making a seperate table

I love mimosas.  But the catch with this is finding good non-refrigerated OJ.  If I'm going to do it, I get the good OJ.  Fresh squeezed.  This makes me worried that it's the nasty OJ in cans that sometimes they serve on planes.  If you did this, I'd put them somewhere for people to take on the way out.  That's kind of unwieldy size for a place setting.  It'll clutter up the table.  My photographer took photos of the tables/place settings.  I can't imagine them with OJ there, etc.

I'd leave out the glass if you do this.  No one needs (another) mismatched glass in their cupboard.
  • Ewwww no cans.  They make the OJ taste like metal to me.  I was thinking a small carton / bottle, and you're definitely right about the cup.  I'd have to make a sample one and see the finished size, My tables are pretty spacious but I haven't factored in centerpieces.

  • I think you could even do just mini bottles of champagne.  I got that at a friend's wedding and enjoyed it!  Anything edible is the best gift you can get.

There are so many things you can do and also keep costs down.  One of my friend's was obsessed with hot sauce and they gave out little bottles (which they just filled on their own with a big jug from costco) and they said "thanks for spicing up our wedding"  I'm doing trail mix in jars with a tag that says "The perfect mix" with our names and date.  Buying in bulk always helps!
  • I am the odd one at a wedding I rarely eat high fat foods, I would be giving all desserts to other people. ediable not important to me.
  • I would rather have the photo with the frame.
  • I do not recommend bubbles but I did have them at my outdoor wedding. Not sure many were actually taken or used. I gave the rest away at holloween and the kids loved them.
  • I agree with the others, I would only recommend the bubbles if it was an outdoor wedding (however, as a guest, I would never consider it a favor). However, I think the truffles and lollipops are a great idea. Edible favors are a favorite!
  • love the truffles idea!  mimosa kit would be a really cute take home, but i think it's too difficult to execute well.

maybe it's just me, but i don't take/eat favors people make themselves.  something about them skeeves me a little.  that being said, i know plenty of people have no problem doing so!
