Please Help - Bouquets and Allergies - NJ

I need some help. I love flowers, but I have the worst allergies. I can't even walk near the florist section at a grocery store without sneezing uncontrollably, how am I supposed to hold a bouquet!?!?

Can anyone suggest an alternative bouquet other than Silk flowers?  is there a type of flower that won't give off allergens?

We are doing a fall rustic decor and using the natural leaves and surroundings throughout the wedding to avoid flowers, but I would still like a bouquet for me and my girls.

I don't want to have to hold a box of tissues or sneeze during my vows... PLEASE....Any suggestions help!

Ps... I have tried a few local florists, but they all keep insisting I go in and talk to them to figure out what flowers I like, then go from there.... but I can't walk in the door, that would be really bad!

  • I had made fabric flower bouquets made foe me and my matron of honor. I am allergic to flowers. I purchased them from Esty.

You can make bouquets out of anything. There are some nice brooch and paper flower bouquets. Are you allergic to dried flowers too? If not, that can be another option.

ETA: I'd also make sure all vendors are aware of your allergies so they don't inadvertently use any in their decorations or products. (ie cake, venue, bar)
  • Do you have an allergy to the flowers, or non allergic rhinitis?  I have non-allergic rhinitis so any powerful smells cause me to sneeze (strong scented flowers, smoke, perfume)

If you're allergic to flowers, I would look at brooch bouquets or paper flowers- they have a lot on etsy if you want to get ideas!

If it's the smell that causes the sneezing, try looking up "plant bouquets"  which might not have a strong smell that will trigger the sneezing.  I've seen some mini pumpkin plants which are pretty cute- and I've seen them used in bouquets.  Maybe a florist can do real plants and silk flowers for a pop of color?  Just an idea!

  • What about a broch boquet? I've also seen beautiful work done with paper flowers, felt flowers. Check out google and type in "non foral wedding bouquets" and some wonderful and unique ideas will come up. Change the option on google from "websites" to "images" and you'll get instant results.

  • Thanks Everyone!

I have been doing some research on the Brooch Bouquets, they are pretty and unique.

I am actually surprised how real silk flowers look today, so maybe that will be my best option.

Also... LittlePeachBlossom.... THANK YOU! I didn't even think about telling my vendors! I just contacted them and let them know, Thank you.
