Wedding Woes

halloween recap

i stayed home and handed out candy. i took baby mo out last year in the rain, so it was dh's turn to go out.

it snowed, so it was hella cold. a lot of kids were running from house to house, but it was just to keep warm.

i made a bingo card, but i did not win. i was one "old person" away from winning. my free square was "elsa/anna."

we had 57 kids come to the house. there was one "kid" who had a full five o'clock shadow. next year, i am doing a separate treat bowl for kids who are too old, and i am going to give them ketchup packets.

there was one large group of junior high kids, and they were so cute. they did all homemade costumes, and they were the whole group from "toy story": jesse, woody, buzz, mr and mrs potato head, and then two aliens. so sweet.

we live next door to "that house", so baby mo was a little freaked out. the neighbors have a bunch of scary skeletons on the porch, they play a spooky sounds cd, BUT they give out full size candy bars. i saw baby mo running back and forth in front of the house because he wanted to ToT, but he didn't want to go to their house. eventually he went. full size m&ms for me!

Re: halloween recap

  • I think handing out ketchup packets is a great idea. Old kids that are having the sechs and smoking don't deserve Halloween candy.

  • I didn't see a single Anna or Elsa trick or treat night, but there were oodles in M2s preschool.  There is a set of girl triplets- 2 Elsas and 1 Anna.

  • We had zero ToT'ers...as I expected.  We were just going to buy the kids candy and not take them out, but DH took pity and took the kids in the car.  He let DefConn sit in the front seat (I know, call a cop.)  DefConn only did about half the houses, the rest of the time, he sat strapped in the front and yelled at the older kids to follow the car.  After they got back, we ate pizza, drank hot cider, watched movies, and saw the leaves flying around and chunks of snow fall to the ground.

They could probably use some condoms, though, and maybe some nicotine gum.  ;)

I can't believe a lot of places saw snow for Halloween.  I was actually sort of glad when the rain showed up:  technically, ToT goes until 9:00 in our town, but DS goes to bed earlier.  I was planning to shut off the light when I put him to bed, but the driving rain made me feel much better about it--no one was out at that point anyway.

We did see some big kids, but I didn't mind.  Apparently word got out that we were giving out Ring Pops, because a whole group showed up just for that.  DD was happy to oblige.  And whenever the doorbell rang, she would leap to her feet and say "Don't get up, I've got it!"  It was hard to get her to sit down for three consecutive minutes to get some non-candy dinner in her.

There were three Elsas at DD's bus stop, she was one of two in her class (her best friend was the other, and they were adorable together), and at least half a dozen rang our bell just while I was on candy duty.

I had The Nightmare Before Christmas on while DS and I handed out candy, and DD and DH arrived home for the second half.  DH is obsessed with the gas log fireplace (the one in the old house was wood burning), so after we put DS to bed, we made cocoa and sat by the fire for DD's bedtime reading while the storm rolled through.
