Wedding Bands

What kind of wedding band did you buy/do you want? (metal? carats?) How much did you pay/are you planning to pay?

Re: Wedding Bands

  • IDK about the specifics, but I picked a white gold band with diamonds that look like they go all the way around but they stop like halfway through.  Kind of like this:

A lot depends on your budget and what will go best with your e-ring. I got lucky that mine somewhat matches, as I had my wedding band first. It was given to me as a gift from my DH prior to getting engaged. As it was a NWR gift, it's a bit fancier than some people might want or need to go along with their e-ring. It's a prong set diamond eternity band, 2 carats in total. I have no clue what it cost (again, gift.)

edit- also, it's platinum. That will cause a difference in price between plat and white gold.

  • I ordered a delicate, open work band with very small aquamarines and expected it to go perfectly with my ring, but I hated the way they sat together, so I guess I'm going to get a plain, solid custom band moulded to fit under my ring now.

  • I picked out a 14k white gold half eternity band, and it cost about $975. Probably could have found something similar for a lower price, but I wanted to get it from the same jeweler who custom made my e-ring.

  • I got a thin eternity band made of 18k white gold from Brilliant Earth.  My engagement ring is 18k gold, so I wanted it to be the same metal.  Brilliant Earth was cheaper than my local jeweler and I'm pretty happy with the product.
  • I only have a wedding band, no e-ring. It's a 2mm 14K yellow gold band with channel set diamonds, a mix of princess and rose cuts.
  • Nothing goes with my e-ring. Luckily FI made the mistake of giving the jeweler the size for my middle finger so that's where I'll wear my e-ring after marriage. FI doubled our wedding band budget because he wanted us both to have diamonds (originally we were just going to go for the plain gold). Yellow gold with channeled diamonds for me, yellow gold with brush texture and diagonal patter with diamonds for him. For the both of us, it was a little less than $1400 with the lifetime insurance and everything.

  • I originally wanted a channel set round diamonds ring to go with my e ring, but a jeweler recommended this idea instead and I love it. Here's FI's ring also.

I agree with the others that you should go by your taste and budget. I'm sure whatever you pick will be beautiful.

  • H and I both got simple hammered gold bands. Mine is much narrower than H's.  Going forward, I would not recommend hammered gold to anyone.  It's not worth the money.  We aren't even at our two-year anniversary yet and the hammering has completely worn off H's ring. And he doesn't even wear it all the time!  He takes it off for up to 8 hours a day for work. And sometimes more if he forgets to put it back on. Mine, you can still just slightly see the hammering (I never take my ring off), but it'll be gone soon too.
  • Mine has diamonds that almost go all the way around. It's a platinum setting just like my e-ring. I think it was like $750.
  • H has a white tungsten band, and I have white gold. I have diamonds going half way around the band. I think my ring came out to $3,000, while H's I believe was $200.
  • My wedding band is platinum with a half carat of channel-set princess cut diamonds, which go about half-way around the band.  I prefer the look of the channel-set band, plus it's extremely comfortable (it feels smooth, even if the ring rotates - prongs can be pokey).
  • This is my band - I had a hell of a time finding a band that would fit around my e-ring (which doesn't have a matching band available).

  • Finally I'm able to get the set together posted!  That's my e-ring and band I'll have.

  • Mine is a half eternity band with round diamonds (when the diamonds go all the way around, it bothers my fingers). It's .75 carats, is white gold, and cost a little over $2,100.

I originally wanted much bigger diamonds in my band, but I tried on a bunch and they took away from my e-ring. My e-ring is a 1.75 carat solitaire and I have tiny size 4 fingers. Attaching pics so you can see.

You have pretty much my same e-ring, even down to the size (I think I'm 3.75!).
  • We paid $500 for my band. It's white gold and slightly curved to accommodate my e-ring. I actually really like it by myself although there hasn't been an instance yet where I've wanted to wear just my wedding right without my e-ring.image

I'm going to bookmark this post since I'll be looking at wedding bands shortly. I think I want a white gold band with diamonds that go around (or, rather, halfway like @doeydo's since I think all the way around might be somewhat uncomfortable). Does anyone have experience with that?

I do have to go slightly OT and say that I had a bit of a crazy moment when clicking on this "Attire and Accessories" post, thinking it was post about wedding (music) bands. Seeing the word "metal" made me want to write you a very nice comment to perhaps reconsider heavy metal music at your wedding reception.
  • Mine has diamonds all the way around, and they are set in such a way I didn't even notice when I tried it on.  If you get a pave setting they are pretty flush.

I recommend halfway around diamonds. It's practically impossible to resize if you have diamonds all the way around. Plus, damage occurs on the underside of the ring band, so you are more at risk for losing diamonds if they are under your finger.

I have the matching band to my engagement ring, 18k white gold. They are marquis shaped. The diamonds only go halfway around each ring. I went with white gold because not only is it less expensive, it is less likely for diamonds to fall out than platinum (platinum can bend and diamonds become loose and fall out). - just something to think about!

ETA: Cost: I paid for Tacori name and quality. My wedding band and e ring band each cost over 2k. The bands are each 1/3 ct weight.

I LOVE your rings! I didn't even know such a setting/band style existed. How pretty!

  • Mine came as a matching set. The diamonds only go halfway around each band - would have been just as comfortable physically if they went all the way around because they're pretty flush, but I like not having to worry about the settings getting damaged if I carry something heavy or rough.

Don't know what they cost. H picked them out himself. :)

  • @lolo883 I can't even put into words how much I love your setting. I would absolutely adore to have a wedding band like that.

  • @KatieinBkln‌ Thank you!!! He did a fantastic job picking out what I think is the most beautiful band ever!

  • So my engagement ring is pretty unique, all sides have diamonds on it and there's an ever so slight curve, not big enough for a curved band but big enough that a regular straight band wouldn't fit right. It took us literally YEARS before I found one that I said...yup that's the one I want to be my wedding band (we've been engaged for 5 years).

My wedding band is actually a wrap, so essentially it's 2 bands or made to look like there's 2 bands. Both bands have a twist design, one of the twists has white diamonds while the other twist has blue diamonds (same with the other band but it's opposite which twist is on top, so one side the blue diamonds are on top the other side the white diamonds are on top).

I'm not a big blind kind of girl but I love my rings (I'm just sad my engagement ring no longer stands out. I got so many compliments on it!) The picture is absolutely terrible, my diamond is a lot clearer than what it appears to be.

Oh...the wrap is white gold and diamonds go 1/2 way around. Also the reason for blue diamonds (aside from my love for them) i had a sapphire set in when we first got engaged (still on the kite set) after 3 years engaged he told me my ring needed repairs due to loose diamonds. We wentto dinner and he gave me the ring back with a diamondin it. Hubby works for a jewlery store so his pricing is different from actual pricing, idk about diamond weight on the wrap
  • My FI and I are deciding on just plain white gold bands.  We want to have them engraved on the inside and outside of the ring.  The rings we are looking at are priced around $400-$500 a piece.
A plain band is fine for me.  I don't need the diamonds on it.  I got plenty of diamonds on my engagement ring.

Mine is similar to that.  It matches my engagement ring--also has pave stones around band.

Does your engagement ring have another half to the set?
  • I selected a plain 3mm platinum band - I think it was $500 from Blue Nile.  My ering is a diamond three stone set in platinum.  It is simple but I love it.
