@TwoDimes - I'm jealous of your king size bed - H is in the 6 foot range and likes to take up more than his share of the bed, I almost fell out of bed last night. We have no room for an upgrade though

I have a stupid sore throat, the rest of me feels mostly OK though. I'll just stick to tea and take some extra immune boosters (I don't really think they help, but I have them so might as well use them).

I'm so glad elections are over - no more annoying phone calls!!! Last election I kept teasing I was going to vote for whoever called my house the least. Red Light Cameras were voted down, so that was our big win.

Today is another regular day for me. Cinders ate an entire 16 ounce package of mixed raisins, nuts, and seeds this morning because she broke in to my parent's pantry. The dog is getting too smart for her panties (she recently learned how to open the wooden gate on my parent's deck)... I called the vet because I guess raisins are toxic to dogs but they seemed to think she probably didn't consume enough to cause her any harm since she isn't a little dog. They said she may have an upset tummy today but to only bring her in if she starts to act lethargic. Luckily my dad is going to keep an eye on her today while I'm at work and then I'll pick her up early to make sure everything is still going ok.

Everything is about my dog today. Yesterday I did a dog IQ test with Cinders and of course she's a genius! The test looks at the dog's problem solving abilities and reactions to verbal and non-verbal cues. Cinders got full points on 4 out of the 6 "tests" and mid-range points on the other two. She had a really hard time figuring out how to get a treat out from underneath a handtowel and took about 20 seconds to realize she needed to knock over the can to get the treat hidden underneath. I tried doing a couple of the same tests on my parent's dog this morning and let's just say that Cheyanne represents the other end of the bell curve.

I bought my pup one of those treat puzzles. The first time he did it he was getting SO MAD, and barking at it! The second time he found all 6 treats in less than 40 seconds. I was such a proud mama..... Then again, he fell/jumped out of my car window, so maybe he's not THAT bright.

Half of the ballot questions went the way I voted, but since the only one I was really invested in was the sick time one, I was pleased all the same.

Today, I figured out a way to get lotion onto Birdo's cere (nostrils) without him flipping his shit! I had been putting it on him by taking him into the bathroom (small, enclosed room with nowhere to hide), trying to hold him in my hand, and apply the lotion. But he was injuring himself trying to NOT be held, so I had to stop.

Instead, I smeared moisturizer on my upper lip, and then asked him to give me a kiss. He presses his face against my lips, and voila! Moisturizer applied.

Hi ladies! I have also been lurking a lot but running out of time to post lately. I was also a bad citizen yesterday, as I did not vote. However, I did educate myself on the candidates, and honestly could not decide who to give my vote to. There was not a single candidate for the major congressional district race whose views completely aligned with my own, and I wish there was a "Neither" option on the ballots.

Today is just a normal Wednesday; nothing too exciting going on here. We have Santa Ana winds coming in from the desert, so everyone is worried about wildfires starting up. Other than that, I am just sending emails and working on writing some code today in between my meetings.

@loves2shop4shoes I was accused of 'excessive internet usage' because a coworker was on the internet excessively and OBVIOUSLY since she sat behind me and I was more senior, and she and I were buddies, then OBVIOUSLY I overuse the internet during work hours and this is all my fault.

Basically a giant load of poppycock. I'm on non work related internet sites for a max of 10 minutes a day.

Like @CocoBellaF, I woke up disappointed in election results this morning. I'm pretty much a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, and Oklahoma is, shall we say...very not that. I had my fingers crossed for the Democratic candidate for governor especially, because he's a good guy (Mr. Historian's son has done some youth government work with him), and because our current governor is...not my favorite. Additionally, my county had a proposition on the ballot to allow the sale of alcoholic drinks (other than 3.2 beer) on Sunday...that failed with 50.7% of the vote, so now I can't even drown my sorrows with a glass of wine at the Red Lobster on Sunday afternoons.

Other than that, it's just a quiet Wednesday. I taught one of my US History classes this morning...I'm so proud of these kids this semester so far. They're actually high school students, but I've taught the class exactly like I teach all of my college classes, and they've performed above my expectations. Plus, they're just fun...last week we talked about atomic anxiety culture of the 1950s, and I showed them the "Duck and Cover" video that used to be played in schools to teach kids what to do when the atomic bomb came. They proceeded to convince the entire senior class to "duck and cover" in the middle of an assembly. Seriously, they're amazing.

I'm working on planning my big dissertation research trips this week...looks like I'm going to have epic solo road trip time the week of/after finals. Which is okay, because it's taking me to Minnesota, which means I get to visit my grandparents and one of my sisters/brothers-in-law!

Also, can I just express how much I looooooove gingerbread lattes.

And I thought Georgia was bad when we didn't allow alcohol sales on Sundays (but you could still get alcohol in restaurants). Thank goodness we got to vote that law down a couple of years ago! Now my Sunday grocery shopping can include wine and beer purchases!

@AlPacina and @LaPeanut1018 - Oklahoma's liquor laws are notoriously ridiculous. In grocery stores, you can only buy low-point (3.2 or less) beer and sweet malted stuff. No wine or full-strength beer. To get anything else, you have to go to a liquor store (they aren't open on Sundays)...and you can't buy anything cold, only room temperature (?!). Everything else is by the county...so, my county turned down the law that would have let us buy liquor in restaurants on Sundays, but the next county over, where OKC is, allows that.

Liquor stores close at 9:00 and are closed on all holidays...and they used to be closed on election days until the polls closed, but I think that's over now. There are also lots of weird laws about what you can and cannot import to the state, so there are certain things we can't get.

Oh, and you can't take kids into liquor stores at all, no matter their age...my brother-in-law had my nephew in his Ergo carrier over Christmas and couldn't take him in. Luckily, the nice lady at my liquor store just held him while my BIL bought wine for Christmas dinner.

@futuremrshistorian MA's liquor laws have been improving over the past several years, but one thing that still surprises me is when there's alcohol at the grocery store! In MA, I've only seen alcohol in a few select Trader Joe's locations.

@phira some stop and shops sell alcohol too. Now that I'm thinking about these silly laws I remember going grocery shopping when I was a kid with my mom and having the alcohol section barred off on Sundays. The law has been changed for long enough now that I forget those days! and so many people used to drive to NH just to buy alcohol on Sundays.

Today at work was just another work day, nothing special. Like I suspected a lot of people were down about the election.

The dog and I ran some errands and hit up the dog park. There were 3 other huskies when we got there! It was hilarious watching the 4 of them together. After the park we went to the pet store and I let her pick out a treat, which she happily munched on while I was fixing and eating dinner.
