Second reception - Save The Dates

My Fi and I are having a destination wedding with family only. We will be having a second reception at home for friends and coworkers. My question is... How do I do STDs given not everyone will be attending the actual ceremony? Thanks!

Re: Second reception - Save The Dates

  • I would only send save-the-dates to the family members invited to the destination wedding.  I'd send regular invitations to the second party (it can be called a "party" or a "celebration" but not a "reception," by the way, since they aren't invited to the wedding) without save-the-dates.
  • The second party is NOT a part of your wedding.  You can have a party to celebrate your marriage, but it is not a wedding reception.  That takes place on your wedding day, and it is for any guests who attend your ceremony.

I would not send out STDs for a party.  Just send out invitations like Misshart00 suggested. If there is time, you should send wedding announcements to friends and family after the ceremony.  See my post at the top of this board about how to write invitations.

    Oops, forgot to quote.

  • Lots of people choose to have receptions following intimate ceremonies (i.e. at city hall) with limited guests. I would not recommend "save the dates" unless your reception will be same-day, because it can indeed cause lots of confusion.

  • Thank you @Knottie42853364. That's what I was trying to clarify. I have a better idea of how to do this now.
