Venue Minimum Issues

Re: Venue Minimum Issues

  • So I just looked over her contract. The minimum is 150 people, with an additional $1,500.00 fee if the minimum is not met. Also, no upgrades or substitutions allowed. WTF is wrong with this venue. I feel like I should tell her to find a new one and just eat the deposit.
I know it's too late now so it doesn't really matter, but she should never ever ever have signed a contract like that.

  • That contract has got to be one of the most ridiculous I have read about on TK. How much was her deposit? I would eat that and get a new venue!

  • I just can't believe she signed it. I signed  my venue contract before she did and I told how carefully I Read through mine and the changes we made so I'm surprised she just... let it happen, you know?

Sounds like this needs to be her problem and not yours.

Why are you taking it on? I know you're trying to be a good friend but geez. That's a lot of stress on you.

  • Honestly this is completely her fault then for signing that contract.  I just can't have sympathy for people who dont' read through things before signing them.  she's legally obligated then.

  • Yeah that is just asinine. I can't believe she signed it, either!

  • Did she tell you why she sent her invitations out so far ahead of her wedding. If the RSVP date was November 1st, when did she actually mail them? 6 months out? lol

  • Yikes. What a mess.
  • This venue sucks.  What was her deposit?

If it wasn't that much and there are other options still available on her date in March, I'd suggest eating the loss of the deposit and finding a new venue that doesn't charge a penalty fee for not meeting the minimum.

Or I'd just lie to the venue and say I had 150ppl to avoid paying another $1500 in penalties.

Not really taking it on... just thought I'd get the opinion of my trusty Knotties.

So much this.  Even if you could lie and get away with it, I wouldn't want to use this venue anymore just because of their shitty money grubby contract.

I looked into the plus ones and kids... she already invited all the plus ones and kids.  She says shes just going to invite the people she missed the first time around. Apparently I can't change her mind.
Well the fact that she sent her invites out so far in advance and wanted RSVPs back so early, if she changes the dates on her RSVPs then people may not even realize they have been b-listed. Because who would think they have been b-listed when the wedding is still so far out?
I was going to say this. Is it really a b-list when your A-list was 5 months out? It's still kind of gauche, but I doubt anyone will realize they got B'd.

So what happens if they have no shows? If she reaches the 150 minimum and then one couple no shows due to a death in the family, which was the no show at my wedding, does she have to pay the additional fee? This is so screwed up.

  • We're not going to meet our minimum, but ours is a dollar amount and other than encouraging everyone to rage at the (consumption) bar and probably way over ordering apps, we're just going to eat the cost. We knew what the price tag was, and that's that. With declines and no-shows, if a venue can charge you extra for not meeting a certain number of people that's just printing money. I'd find another venue if at all possible, if I were in her shoes.
  • she only had 20 people decline when the RSVP was 4 months away??? She's got a good set of family and friends.
