...on TK. H & I are leaving for our honeymoon in a few days and I am daydreaming about all of the fabulous drinks we'll enjoy. What are some of your favorite vacation cocktails?

Last time I went to the Dominican Republic, I tried my first caipirinja. If you've never had it, do yourself a favor and get one immediately. It's essentially sugar, alcohol, and fresh lime juice. Warning: they will bite you in the ass.

If I'm getting mixed drinks, it's probably going to be a gin & tonic. Maybe a Johnnie Walker Red & soda w/ lemon. I have pretty simple tastes when it comes to cocktails. If I DO get fancy, it's going to be some variation of a white Russian. I like to have them sub in flavored vodkas and top it with a splash of Pepsi. I think my favorite so far was either root beer or cinnamon sugar vodka, but it's also really good with whipped cream vodka.

I usually go for a dirty martini, or vodka tonic if I don't want to be buzzed after 1 or 2. If there's a good mixologist then any house specialty cocktail is my favorite.

I went to Brazil a few years ago and had caipirinhas there. OMG.

DH & I honeymooned in St Croix where they have Cruzan rum. SO, if I'm in tropical vacation mode, I love a good Rum Runner.

Fiance loves caipirinhas. He makes us find and buy a bottle of cachaça every time we're in the States because it's so hard to find and expensive here.

I bartended my way through university and have lots of opinions on cocktails, but I pretty much stick to burnt martinis, Scotch, or the occasional Manhattan or Old-Fashioned if I'm bored. I don't have much of a taste for sweet drinks anymore. I will drink Negronis and stuff in the summer though.

Once a year, though, I make this cocktail with Limoncello, Galliano, citrus vodka, and pineapple juice and it tastes exactly like a lemon meringue pie. SO GOOD.

If loving mojitos is wrong, I don't want to be right. And I wouldn't kick a margarita out of bed.

But I mostly just stick with red wine.

ETA: I forgot that I love the shit out of mimosas.

I'm always intrigued by "classic" drinks. I heard somebody on the radio the other day mention an "old-fashioned" or something like that and I feel I must try one of those. I tried a grasshopper earlier this year, yum. I also really loved the hot toddies my friend's late grandmother would make for us.

Another thing I got stuck on this summer was gin and tonic with a splash of lavender syrup. OMG delicious!

I guess my drinking habits are seasonal. I love Manhattans but would never drink one in the summer. And when we were in the mountains this summer I didn't want a mojito just because of our surroundings... It all depends on the time and place, really.

I love me some mojitos! I grew a mojito mint plant last summer until the heat fried it. . . . the little stick actually said "mojito mint." That's the only reason I got it.

Gin and Tonic is a go-to for me, as is a classic gin martini. DH makes the best gin martinis in the plant, IMHO. What is a burnt martini @amelisha ? I have never heard of that, but i'm intrigued.

An Old-Fashioned is simply bourbon, sugar, bitters, and a cherry/orange (depending on whose opinion you take) and soda. Barely counts as a cocktail, haha. I like them for a change of pace once in a while but I don't recommend them unless you very much like the taste of whiskey.

When I want to pretend I'm Patsy Stone, I have a bellini. Well, I'm not sure if it's really a bellini because I either put Pallini Peachcello or peach Ciroc in my champagne.

Either way it's peach shit and champagne.

A burnt martini just substitutes the dry vermouth in a classic gin or vodka martini with Scotch.

I tried a Manhattan once and almost died the moment it touched my tongue. A shot of tequila is about as classic as I get.

Cranberry vodka. I drank like 1000 of those on our honeymoon. (Man I wish we could go back!)

I also enjoyed a pina colada once or twice in the hot sun.

Red wine.

The resort offered their own "original" cocktails and we enjoyed trying those out too.

DH drank Manhattans, martinis, and whiskey cokes. He asked the bartender to make him a "blue" drink and the bartender whipped up some version with blue alcohol and it was really good. So I go for challenging your bartender!

Vodka cran or a mojito! I usually just stick with a rum and diet coke though, I don't like sweet cocktails as much as I used to. Though I do like sweet wines..

We both like using flavored vodkas in those, although I draw the line at this nastiness (although I did try a shot of it at the McCormick store that's in Weston MO because it was only 25 cents for the shot):

I'm an equal opportunity drinker and there isn't really a cocktail I don't like. On our honeymoon we drank a lot of wine at the condo/eating out, and beers by the pool and at the beach. We did make friends with an awesome bartender who kept making us special (i.e. free) cocktails so we could try all the drinks he had made up recently. My favorite were the ones he made with Wild Turkey American Honey. OMG delicious - I'm not a big whiskey fan, but a glass of that on the rocks.....oh buddy.

But it's not when you mix it with sugar and fruit! I hate it plain, ESPECIALLY warm (barf) but it makes an excellent caipirinha.

It took me a long time to like sake. When I first tried it in my early 20s, I hated it. I drank it again on my first date with H, and I absolutely loved it.

In the Caribbean, most places have a mysterious "rum punch" which is just fresh fruit juice and rum and it is so fucking good. The ones in Belize are the best. In Hawaii I drank a lot of mai tais but they are super sugary, and sometimes they are downright bad.

My favorite cocktails ever though are a mix of vodka or gin, elderflower liquor, and lemon juice. They go down easy.

Can't do it. The Brazilian rodizio place we go for dinner on ski trips serves them this way and I was not a fan. But I grant you I don't love the regular ones either (although I like them much more than the sake version.)

I'm not a big cocktail fan because I don't like sugary drinks. If I do drink liquor, I usually just have something basic (i.e. vodka/soda, whiskey/ginger ale). That being said, I do like cocktails with mint and/or cucumber. And I love Moscow Mules!

My opinion is no cherry, ever. There should always be orange, rubbed along the rim and a wheel, and always rye whiskey. Spicier, not as sweet as bourbon.

Yum.

It's my second favorite.

Number 1 is a Manhattan. That's where the cherry belongs. And the bourbon.
