Re: I can't with them.

  • Ooooh lord... not that I have anything against vegetarians in general because what you eat is up to you and none of my business, but recently a co-worker's bizarro world girlfriend came to a work function. She made an issue of being a vegetarian (I don't see the need to tell everybody your special dietary needs... I'm on Weight Watchers. I don't need to announce it. I'll just eat what I feel is best for me in that moment). So just to make conversation, I asked if her choice to be a vegetarian is based more on health reasons or ethical reasons or both or....?? She honestly didn't seem to know. It took her a couple of minutes to come up with the answer "I just really like cows. Like I just think cows are so cute." I said "I agree. Have you ever seen red highland cattle? What beautiful animals. TASTE DELICIOUS TOO!!!! ESPECIALLY when they are raised ethically and treated well on a small family farm. Then I see no reason to not eat them if they've led a really good life and were killed humanely." It was like I was speaking French. Very odd.
There is a ranch less than a mile away that has highlands. They are so beautiful.  The club is getting one for xmas.  I'm looking forward in tasting their meat.

  • RE: Entitlement.
My BFF was talking to her college-age cousin about life in the real world. She used me as a positive example of hard work, as I happened to secure a sweet promotion at the young age of 27. Her cousin replied, "It took her that long?"
I can't. I just can't. Kids think they know everything and can easily replace someone in a job where you need real life experience to make appropriate decisions.

I also can't even with young marriages and think I might break my TV if I try to watch the Too Young To Marry show.

My DH interviews kids all the time who think they will be making $100K just out of culinary school.  They also think they will work M-F 9-5.

I do not know what they are smoking, but it normally takes many to get that high of a salary. If at all.   And when you do, you still do not work M-F 9 to 5.

Clearly they have no concept of most business models of a restaurant.  You know the ones that have customers coming in to eat between 6 and 9 pm.   They like to eat on the weekends.

DH is mean and laughs at them.  He has told a few kids they might want to try another career path.   Or maybe go work at a school cafeteria for the M-F 9-5 job, but you will not be making 6-figures.

  • I will have to check this show out.

RE: entitlement  We have a factory worker who is 22. Apparently he closed his bank account and never informed us. So there was an issue when the payroll company tried to direct deposit his paycheck on Friday. Accounting told him it would be a few days before they could replace the check, since it was still somehow in limbo. So his mom showed up here yesterday to yell at everyone for "withholding his paycheck". Yeah.
Closing of accounts and not informing Payroll happens all the time!  We've had parents and spouses call about it.  Umm, if you informed Payroll before you closed your account this wouldn't be an issue...

If they want to be done with work at 5...then they just need to be a short order cook at a breakfast place! Sure you have to be at work at 3am, but those are the only chefs I know that are done by 5 ;)

But even the parents seem really whiney in many of the cases. Oh boo hop I don't want you to get married. This one mom is legitimately sobbing outside of the church (after getting kicked out due to running in and trying to stop the wedding).

I get that there is family drama like that, but it is SO unrelate-able to me and just boggles my mind how anyone can react like that.

I mean, I get that teenagers can be young and stupid, but let them make their own mistakes (not like there's much choice either way though anyway!).
Ok, so don't sign the paperwork to allow the marriage to take place?

But if they are kids and the parents have to give consent then why the hell did the Mom give consent if she doesn't want her underage child getting married?
It turned out that they drove to another state (since they were in a state where you had to be 21 and they were 18) and got married there. So really it was just a PPD.
How does that even work?  Because in PA your marriage license is only valid in PA, and I don't think I can get an out of state marriage license.
Simple.  You drive to the other state, get a license and get married in that state. Your marriage is valid in your home state.
I thought we had to show proof of residence to get our license?  I may be confused.
No you just have to show proof of ID.  And typically for out of state residents the marriage license fee is more.

  • @lyndausvi‌ YES. I remember when I was in culinary school and met people just like the ones you described. I tried to be a voice of reason but somehow I was the one who didn't know what I was talking about. Clearly I am the obtuse one to not believe that a line cook would be making $16/hour.

When DH and I first started dating and discussed our shared passion for cooking, I asked him why he didn't want to work in a kitchen. His reply: "I like being able to pay my bills."

My home state is a popular destination wedding location so you only have to show proof of residence - doesn't matter what state it is from.  On the other hand - say you do live in state if you tried to apply for a marriage license in a county other than the one that you or your FI lives in they will send you packing to your hometown clerk's office to complete the application for your marriage license.

by your definition people can only get married in the state are a resident of, which we all know is not the case.

No, like, they got married in AK and did the paperwork in AK but then drove back to LA to have their "wedding" (aka: they were already married before saying their vows and dressing up).

Basically they just propagated the stereotypes of everything wrong with young weddings.
why would you drive to Alaska from Louisiana?

I have to be in a not-eating mood to watch that show. It doesn't happen often, but the times I've actually watched have been dooooooozies. Like the pee lady.
