32 is really pretty old for a horse - he had been "retired" for at least 5-6 years if not longer - they get arthritic and hard to keep weight on, he was lucky that my friend had family with property and they loved having a "pasture pet" to spoil and care for.

Do you sleep with one pillow or two? Two, currently (my tempurpedic and my "squish", but I'm going to get a body pillow today, too, as Baby Bean has made stomach sleep impossible so I've gotta get creative with sleep positions from here on out.

Did you see CT's tribute? I definitely cried at that. I really enjoyed watching her, and I was so sad to hear that she passed.

He was a small, white dog who (according to my parents) had no fear. My mom to this day swears that he's the best dog ever.

They are SUPER smart, as a general rule (I think this is true of all herding dogs). Our particular guy was quite high energy, and looking back we definitely didn't challenge and exercise him enough. He was a bit catlike, personality-wise--when he wanted to play or be petted, great! But when he didn't, he would growl at you if you approached him. Never bit anyone, but we were taught from the beginning that you don't push it with a growling dog.

I found him to be deeply empathetic, though. When I was young and having a bad day and went to my room to cry/mope, that "unfriendly" dog would beeline to my room and sit there and let me pet him. He knew what was up.

I wouldn't get a sheltie at this point in my life--they really do thrive with space to run and a "job" to do, whether that's actual sheepherding or agility training, and I have neither yard nor time to dedicate to those things. But I loved ours, in spite of his flaws.

@KatieInBkln, we had neighbours with a Sheltie growing up who was just the same. They're great dogs but the smarter a dog, is the more constructive challenges they need and that can be a huge undertaking. Our neighbours' dog barked incessantly just because she was so bored. I felt terrible for the poor thing.

Oh god, ours was a barker. Our poor neighbors.

I like to think he still had a good life, even if it wasn't perfect. But yeah, he for sure needed more challenges.
