Picking A Date

We had originally wanted to get married in August, but since we decided on Vegas it is going to be super hot out, although I want the ceremony later in the day. Then I started thinking about Sept or Oct...but not sure about that either. I have been to Vegas several times and know that heat is no joke. Wondering if anyone has thoughts or suggestions.

Re: Picking A Date

  • Sept can still be a bit hot. I think Oct is wonderful...especially mid to late Oct. Other than April/May..Oct is my favorite month as it's not too hot and not too cold (relatively speaking). :)

  • Yea its like hot and then jumps to kinda fallish around late Oct/Nov....next thing you know its too cold lol. We want to do it the later half of the year, my FI is like no lets stick to Aug, but he has never been to Vegas and I told him we would die in the heat lol...he doesn't get it. Also trying to avoid boxing matches and award shows...
  • If you're not opposed to moving it up, June is not bad for the first two weeks.  We got married June 11th and the weather was warm but still not bad; many of our guests hung out on the balcony of our venue for large parts of our reception.  From about late June through mid-September, the average high will be over 100 and it's pretty brutal, and it doesn't get back down into the 80's until mid October.

  • I know that heat is no joke...luckily its dry..but still. This past August wasn't that bad it was in the 90s when I was there, but that sun is no joke lol....i appreciate yall suggestions
  • We are getting married in December, and while we know it will be chilly at night, we really aren't expecting it to be that bad.  We have heard that the week of Christmas is really a down time on the strip with the exception of Christmas day, so it should be pretty nice.  Plus it gave me an excuse to get a sweet leather jacket to wear with my dress.
  • I love Vegas in December, or really any time after it gets cold and before pools reopen, everyone seems more relaxed.

  • @aggiespartan Yea Xmas week isn't too bad...best airport to go in and out of...LAX if you doing a honeymoon and leaving from there stinks. Strip is still crowded with cars and folks walking around, but still a good time for you!

  • I can see Oct being busy because it has cooled off a lot from the summer.
  • We were married on October 26 last year, and the weather was perfect. It felt like early summer - warm, but not hot during the day, and cooler at night.

I just checked the weather history for that date. It was 84 at the highest point (afternoon) and 58 at the lowest (first thing in the morning). It cooled down to 60-ish right around the time our reception wrapped up (9:30).

Our wedding was indoors, but I still took the weather into consideration because I didn't want to be too warm while walking around outside. I *hate* hot weather. I didn't want our guests to be uncomfortable either.

84 in Vegas is so different from 84 in Chicago. Because it was so dry, I was honestly surprised to see it hit 84 that day. To me, it felt like it was in the low 70s. Not having (much) humidity helps a ton.

Late October is very popular, as the weather is pretty much perfect for all types of ceremonies. Reserve things as soon as you decide on them, and double-check for conventions and other things that will cause hotels to get snatched up.
  • The other thing about picking a date is watch for conventions. Oct is a hot convention month - Oh! And stay away from the last weekend of Sept - That's the IHeart radio festivle
    Anniversary
  • And the first full weekend of March is always NASCAR weekend... NASCAR Champions week is usually beginning of December... along with NFR running 10 days in December and PBR running late October. Always a lot going on here, it seems!!

  • @jayjaay oh I know I was looking up when they festival was going to be. the week before the i heart music festival is the Mayweather fights at MGM. I have covered the fights before and the crowds are insane. It seems like an art picking a time. Late March & April spring break starts up..

Oh great. I had looked on the conventions website somewhere and didn't realize the iHeart radio festival was that weekend. We are going to be in Vegas from 9/27-10/4 for our wedding...good to know...

  • Try to avoid March Madness too. The hotels and casinos are packed with bookies and sports fanatics.
