Re: I'm so bored!!!

  • How are you feeling, @gustafson28?

I'm bored, too.  I'm just waiting for H to get off work and we'll be on the road.

I'm annoyed because I ordered a bouquet to be sent to my sister. This is the crap she got. I called and got a 50% refund, so I feel like a bit of a badass.

I'm sorry (not sorry) but on what planet is that acceptable?

Seriously. This is what I ordered (in small) http://m.ww11.1800flowers.com/product.do?baseCode=90831&dataset=12880&cm_cid=d12880

@holyguacamole79 - how much did they charge you for that before the 50% refund?  That is by far one of the saddest and worst arrangements I have ever seen in my life!

    ---------

Total (including a 20% off coupon) was $50. I was livid. Fortunately my sister ex just thankful to get flowers, so I'm not worried about that.

I remember seeing a 20/20 type special where they said ordering off sites like 1-800-flowers often sucks because the 1-800 company calls the local florist to make the bouquet, but they have to do it in a certain price point and they only get a small cut of the money, so they end up having to use...less of the good stuff basically (I don't know my floral terminology at all). They said the best thing to do was look up florists in the area you needed them delivered to and just call them directly because they'd do a way better job, even if it cost a bit more.

WHAT?!?!  That is insane!!!!  That florist should be ashamed of themselves.  If that is what they consider a ~$65 arrangement (adding back in the 20% off) then they are delusional.  One lily stem, two sunflowers and 1 stem of mums?  Those flowers alone only cost about $13 and that is with them already marked up!  So where the heck is the other ~$52?

When the holiday is over with I would leave a bad review on any and all websites about that florist.

  • This day has lasted forever since most people are out of the office.  Thankfully we just got the OK to peace out in a few minutes if we aren't busy.  Yessssssss!
  • @princessofgenovia - yeah, I learned my lesson. I placed the order in a rush to avoid paying extra for next day delivery. And considering she will be with her in laws tomorrow, I wanted it delivered today. She sent me a pic of the card that included the florist name ... I may call them, too.

Yup.  The florist I worked for wasn't affiliated with any of those companies (Teleflora, 1-800-Flowers, etc) because it really wasn't worth the money.  Also, what you see in the books and online are not what you will end up getting.  Like in the picture it looks super full, but that is because the designers at those companies do one sided arrangements to make it look like that, but you are thinking it is a full, all the way around arrangement.

Also, you have no control over which florist it goes to so the level of expertise in design can vary dramatically.

And I see that you ordered the small, so I will update the price and such from my last post.  The flowers in that arrangement still would only cost about $13 if you just bought the stems so where is the other $27?  The vase certainly doesn't cost that.  And even if you took say $5 out for labor and overhead costs you are still left with $22 that could have been used towards more flowers.

The next time you want flowers delivered go through an actual brick and mortar store because then all of your money will be used towards your arrangement instead of a chunk being used to pay to be affiliated with one of these companies.

PS:  Most designers hate doing these arrangements because they no longer can use their creativity.  When you let a good designer use their creativity you typically end up with a much prettier end result.

  • Thanks, @Maggie0829 -- very gooid to know!!
  • This was on my FB feed - this has kept me entertained today as the person defends what he said when I asked him not to use these words:

An officer may or may not have done something wrong by shooting a young man. And the young man may or may not have deserved it. I have no clue. However if these retards over there are so against innocent kids getting shot why don't yall go to the the local gang hang out and protest there. Cause the gangs kill a lot more innocent people than cops ever have. Oh yall are scared cause the gangs will kill yall for standing up. But the very police yall are protesting against are trying to keep innocent people out of harms way. Bunch a dang rats over there. Pure rats.

I know @maggie0829 has the florist background and I can attest, that as a customer, all of her advice is spot on. H will only go through an actual brick and mortar floral shop when he buys me flowers, a place that he's been going to for 10 years, and I have never gotten a bad arrangement. He just gives her a few colors that he'd like and lets her do whatever she'd like after that. The ones sitting on my desk right now that he had delivered for my birthday are just breathtaking.

I so would. Until I watched that thing on TV, I never would've thought twice about doing a 1-800 flowers order. I like ordering on line, I don't know shit about flowers, so if I wanted to send someone some flowers going to a website and clicking a picture of what looked pretty would be awesome for me.

But after seeing that (and your real world experience), I'll just use the internet to look up flower shops and let them do their thing.
  • I have the week off so I have been binging on Scrubs.

It is currently sleeting/hailing and I am hoping the snow will stay away tonight. We have our annual the night before Thanksgiving games night with friends.  This year, it's in the suburbs, so I will actually need to drive and I don't drive well in snow.

Well, I certainly can't say I've come across a more intelligent or convincing response to the tragedy than that! We can go home now, everyone. Racism is over!

It gets better ..... after I said that callling them the r-word and rats is offensive and uncalled for, he says:

"Lol ok. I'm sorry I really am sorry if I offend you. I will not be changing the way I feel or talk about people who have no regard for law and order. They are rats. So you should probably unfriend me so I don't offend you. Ps. And your right retards don't know any better. They have mental disabilities. And these people don't so I do take back the retard remark. That's was unfair to say. And not nearly harsh enough for those people over there. Help me thank Of a word that explains these kinda lawless heathens."
  • I tried to come up with a response to that, but it broke my sarcasmeter. I'm sure we've all had to deal with our fair share of revealing FB moments these past couple of days.

  • @cupcait927 HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYYY!!!!!!!

@holyguacamole Well, I mean, he did give you permission to unfriend him, so I'd be clickin' that button posthaste.
  • @esstee33‌ , nah - I need some entertainment. And I really hope that my admonition to stop using the r-word is taken seriously.

I seriously doubt that's going to happen, but I respect you for keeping the hope alive.

I also plan to ride a unicorn to Thanksgiving. ;)
