Ceremony Readings about family

You would think I could easily find a reading about bringing two families together as one, but I cannot! Everything I find is about two families where the spouses have children already, and this is not the case. We are both extremely family oriented and I was hoping to find something eloquent already written that speaks about the bride becoming part of the grooms family and vice versa, and how their families will become one because of their marriage.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Can be religious (Christian) or non.

Re: Ceremony Readings about family

  • There may not be any because in spite of this thinking, many families DON'T "become one" simply because two of their members marry. There are a lot of threads, advice columns, etc. about how disappointed the married couple is that their respective families don't embrace each other, and the response is generally to just accept it and move on.

This is not to say that your idea is wrong, but just that it may be the reason there are no texts on the subject.
  • Jen4948 I definitely, definitely under stand that, where their families just keep it "in-laws only". His parents have been a big influence on my life (they do think of me as a daughter-their words), and my Fi was there for my step mom and sister through many losses. We both really do feel like we are part of eachother's families and they do get together for events and holidays. I just hope to find an eloquent writing that embraces those feelings, and I think our families will really enjoy it.

  • Maybe in this instance, rather than looking for an existing text, you should personally compose one that is about that with respect to your specific family situation. It would be even more heartfelt than anything someone else could come up with.
  • If your families already think of each other as connected, I think having a parent from each side write something and read it or have it read would be lovely.

  • Jen4948 I totally would but I am the complete opposite of eloquent, unfortunately.

artbyallie That is a great idea, thank you!
