Tuesday Chat!

Good morning!

I could have reeeeeally used a couple more hours of sleep today. H and I were at the Dolphins/Jets game last night (Woo Fins! Sorry, @Ollie08) and didn't go to bed until around 1am. I'm so grateful that our friends who live nearby gave us a place to stay for the night. I got to "sleep in" until 5:45 and then I walked to work, making a pitstop at the Bux for a chestnut praline latte in the process :)

OH! H and I are looking at a house tonight! I'm excited about it although it's only 2 bedrooms (we really want 3) and I don't think H is going to be crazy about this one. It's a very "typical" house looks-wise which he's not a fan of. It has 1.5 bathrooms, an attached garage, a fireplace, and central air. It's at the higher end of our reevaluated budget. So we'll see what happens. I'm just glad to be moving forward.

Re: Tuesday Chat!

  • @swazzle -I hope everything goes well with looking at the house tonight!

DH and I don't have much going on today, I really want to go  buy some more garland to put around the house so I might stop by Walmart after CrossFit and pick up some along with some more ribbon. Our house is all decorated and I love it. I'm getting impatient about not having our lights up or our tree yet though....we just have to wait until this weekend. It makes me anxious when all our neighbors have theirs up but we don't lol.

Maddux turned 8 months yesterday! He is getting to be such a big boy. I realized this past weekend how big he is really getting when he is just as big as my parent's full grown golden retriever. He still has a bunch of skin left to grow into also so we will see how much bigger he gets by the end of the year.
  • @southernpeach89 - Maddux is adorable.  I just love how he looks like a little man dog!

H will be at play practice tonight.  I plan to go home after work, do PIYO, cook dinner, eat, and study until bedtime.  I might get crazy and do some laundry, who knows.
  • Hey people!

@Swazzle - I'm so excited you get to go see a house tonight! Even if you don't both love it, I'm sure it will be nice to start looking again.

I feel like I'm just coasting by this week. My boss is out of the country until Sunday night, and the 2nd in command is off this week as well.... so no one is really giving me much work to do.

I'm a bit on edge today because FI's company is in talks with a potential buyer. Representatives from the company that might buy them are going to be in his office today and tomorrow, and he'll have to talk to some people about the software his company has developed, and about his role there. I don't think anything he says could impact whether or not the company gets sold, but it could definitely impact whether they decide to keep him if they buy the company. Ideally, the company would be sold for a lot of money, so that FI could get the bonuses he JUST signed a contract for, AND he'd still get to keep his job. He's been working for this start-up for over 3 years now and I would love to finally see it pay off for him, and for us!

In WR news, one of my sisters is going to play/sing the song for our first dance! I'm THRILLED because my sister has a beautiful voice, I know she'll do a great job, it will make it really special, and - best of all - this means that some attention will be on her, leaving a little less attention on FI and me! We do NOT dance very often and I'm sure we'll be super nervous, so it will be nice to know that not every eye in the room will be on us.

  • @southernpeach89 - I always decorated the inside of our apartment while H would sit on the couch, watching, but I just love decorations and how cozy it makes it feel. I can't believe Maddux is 8 months old already!

@hummingbird125 - ALL the vibes to M today! And both of my eyes will be staring at you when you're dancing. You're welcome. :::mouth kisses:::

  • @Swazzle - I hope the house is everything you want (minus the missing bedroom).  I'd be jealous of the attached garage AND the 1.5 bathrooms.

@Southerpeach89 - Your tree will be up soon enough!  Maddux is a cutie, will you be doing Christmas pictures with him??

@Hummingbird125 - That could be a super exciting opportunity for your H!  May the odds be ever in your favor (lol - couldn't help myself).

I didn't sleep the best last night, H was snoring very very loudly, he's ALWAYS congested.  I'm not sure if a sleep study thing would help him or what would help him.  He's declined a sleep study in the past, but he should be at his out of pocket max for the year, so I kind of wonder if they could squeeze him in and if it would even help him out.

Now that Black Friday - Cyber Monday are over, it's time for H and I to close our wallets and start saving (easy to say)!  We went a little crazy, I'm actually excited that I bought an electric pressure cooker, no idea what I'll be making in it but I know it'll do a whole pot roast in about an hour!!

  • @Dignity100 - H used to snore when we first got married.  he tried those snore nose strips and they worked... has your H tried those?
  • Hope everything goes well and you guys are on the same page re: the house tonight @Swazzle !

It's crazy how fast they grow @southernpeach89 .  A few months after we got Anya I had to go on a trip for business for a week and I came back and she was an entirely different *color*

I miss my 4-day weekend already.

Not a ton of shopping.  I got a fun dress for my FSIL for xmas and ordered her a 1922s silver sixpence for their wedding (their theme is 20s).  Picked up a few scarves for my mom.

It's been a while since I've been able to chat in a morning thread :)

Finally starting to get ahead again at work.  We had a huge burden piled on my position right before I had to go to training in October and then I had more work with 4 less working days because of holidays in November.  I know my coworkers are bummed about working full weeks again but - so I have much less stress now.  I've got just under 2 weeks to get comfortably ahead for my 3-day weekend with my BFF for some much needed girl time.

I tried a new workout last night.  The theme is belly dancing.  I'm sure I looked ridiculous but I could definitely feel it and I had fun with it.  I did probably an hour of it before my body said no more.  I'll consider that good for not having a core workout in I can't remember how long.  I need 1.5 lbs to hit 30 lbs, 2 lbs to hit 15%, and 7.5 lbs to hit my lowest since BF & I started dating.  I'd love to hit it by the EOY.  Just under 2 lbs a week which is totally doable but may be challenging during Christmas.

Tonight all I have is a load of laundry.  I should layer up and take Anya to the dog park or on a bike ride so she can get a good run in while the ground is still clear.

BF and I are talking about getting (re?) engaged after the holidays.  I'm not a fan of holiday/birthday/anniversary proposals and neither is he.  Having a timeline helps keep the crazy at bay, especially when we keep talking about possibility having a quick engagement.

  • @CocoBellaF - he has not tried the snore strips yet, but I might get him some to just try out.  I know the doctor told him that something in his airway was narrow which is causing the snoring and such.

@WildMagalet - Way to go on the weight loss!!  I need to jump back on the bandwagon, I gained most of the weight I lost back (especially after the wedding).  I ordered 'Just Dance 2014' which at least gets me moving (I look silly doing it w/my 2 left feet).

  • @swazzle good luck on the house hunting tonight

I have a pretty busy day at work today and more rehearsal tonight.  It makes life a little crazy.  I haven't even begun holiday shopping yet.  Although I'm quite sure I know what I will be getting everyone, it's just a matter of getting to the store for it.  There is a lot going on at the moment that I'm trying to juggle.  My awful headaches that I've had for several days finally went away I feel like a million bucks now.  Although some more sleep would be really nice.

    Anniversary

  • @Dignity100 - Me too! I'm fairly certain H isn't going to love it, but it doesn't hurt to look at! I hope you got a good deal on the pressure cooker! I did SO much shopping since Friday (all online) and I think I've done pretty good!

@WildMagelet - Congrats on the weight loss! That's incredible!

@Peaseblossom55 - More sleep is ALWAYS needed.

@TwoDimes - Oh. My. Goodness. SHE IS THE CUTEST! She's going to have puppy breath and a round little tummy and love to snuggle and play!!! I can't even handle the cute.

  • @TwoDimes - what a perfect puppy!!!!  she is just adorable!!  puppy paws, puppy breath, puppy kisses, puppy belly...  I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE IT.  when does she come home??  you will have to  bombard us with all the puppy pictures.  H said no more puppies (unless it's a boxer) until I let him have a baby, and I have maaaaajor puppy fever.
  • Morning ladies!

@Swazzle - Good luck with the renewed house hunt! FI and I look at some listings from our realtor last night and I think we're going to try to look at 3 or 4 of them later this week.

@southernpeach89 - I ran out of time last night to get my decorations out of storage; I am getting antsy to get them up!

@Hummingbird125 - Good vibes for your FI, I hope everything goes well today!

@TwoDimes - SO CUTE! She is adorable, I can't wait for all the pictures once she comes home!!

I am very tired and unmotivated this morning. I just wanted to stay curled up in bed, I'd made myself such a nice little cocoon :(

FI and I looked at some house listings last night and reviewed the revised quote from our florist, so I'm sending the signed contract and deposit to her today. We TRIED to order our invites from Minted to get their 25% off sale but the site was rammed and we kept getting error messages. FI had told me to order them yesterday while I was at work, but I was being nice and wanted to make sure that he got to look through them one more time before we bought...and then we couldn't do anything because the site was so busy! This is what I get for being nice lol. Anyways, we got an online chat person who confirmed that there was just too much traffic on the site and that they were extending the discount to today. Thank goodness, because I was starting to feel very stabby!

Busy day at work today, I'm still catching up from being away for a few days, and we have lots to wrap up before the end of the year. Tonight FI and I are going to the Leafs game, and I am determined to pull out my Christmas decorations before we leave! I want to get my lights up pronto!

  • @Swazzle - ALL the house vibes.

@Southerpeach89 - Your pictures are adorable!!! The three of you make such a cute family.  :)

@Hummingbird125 - Fingers crossed for you guys.

@TwoDimes - Puppy pictures!!!  That made my morning.

@Peaseblossom55 - I'm glad your headaches went away.  Headaches for days sounds like hell.

    --------------------------------------

I'm at work today and I shouldn't be.  I'm so sick with a cold.  This is the third cold I've caught in a matter of two months so I have no idea what the hell is going on with my immune system.  My celiac bloodwork came back pretty good so it can't be that compromising my system.  I'm sick of being sick.  Hopefully I can leave early today.  On the bright side, our kitchen cabinets are being installed this week and H and I can't wait to have a kitchen back!

  • @Southernpeach89 - SOOO cute!  The local animal shelter does 'pictures with Santa', but they're doing 1 day of 'Pictures with the Grinch' and I'm thinking about taking Nessie.  Unfortunately the only 'antler' from 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' was like $50 off Etsy, so she will not be wearing that (unless they happen to have one).

@TwoDimes - Super cute!!  My Newfie breeder for the most part picked the dogs for those who were adopting from her.  Nessie was the last puppy left but she fit what we were looking for (house-dog w/potential of being a therapy dog); 2 other people backed out so we got her or else we would have had to wait for the next litter.  Her breeder is planning a landseer Newfie litter in the near future and I SO wish I could jump on that wait list!

@TwoDimes - OMG CONRGATS!!!! She's adorable! I highly recommend these free downloads about housebreaking, bite inhibition, and socialization.

We followed their housebreaking advice to a T and our puppy probably had 4 or 5 accidents ever - and we brought her home when she was 8 weeks old.

Time to puppy-proof and buy all the baby - err.. puppy - things!

@Southernpeach89 - Oh my goodness those pictures are INCREDIBLE!  Maddux is so cute I almost can't stand it.

@TwoDimes - AAAAH, puppy!  I love puppies so much.

@WildMagelet - Congratulations on the weight loss! That's so great!  I have about 10-15 more pounds to lose myself, so I'm with you in solidarity during the holidays!  My goal is just to do something active every day...which will be hard when I'm traveling, but hopefully doable.

@Hummingbird125 - Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you guys.

I am paying the price today for my (incredibly productive and long) day yesterday.  I was up at 4:00 to finish grading some papers, and the day didn't stop until I got home from ballet at 10:30.  I was doing okay until about 15 minutes from the end of ballet class, when I just got completely exhausted.  I didn't get to bed until almost midnight, and I just can't do multiple short nights in a row anymore.  So this morning I let myself sleep in, which means I need to be super productive the rest of the day...more grading, some dissertation research, and wrapping the last 2 Christmas presents on my list.  This week and next are abbreviated because I have to start my big research trips, so it's a little crazy.

I also got to talk to Mr. Historian yesterday.  I know I'm probably starting to sound like a broken record, but...please keep him in your T&P.  Apparently the team he's working with is just totally dysfunctional, and something went wrong with one of their drills this weekend and he ended up with a black eye and a broken toe.  So now he's in physical pain in addition to the discouragement he was already feeling.  I'm so confident that something is going to work out soon and he'll be able to leave this job (BEFORE he has to leave the country again, hopefully), but I'm not really sure how to support him from this distance and with our limited communication.

And, on a happier note, since there are lots of puppy pictures in this post I want to AW.  This is Smudge:

ETA: I don't know why the picture is sideways, but when I click on it, it's right-side up.
  • I could not sleep last night, almost at all (I think I slept from about 5:30am until 9:30am). I tried to sleep in even later to recuperate a little, but it didn't help. I just finishing throwing together something in the crock pot; I just hope it has enough time to cook so we can have dinner at a reasonable hour.

  • @swazzle, I'm glad you guys are moving forward.  Feeling stuck in neutral with no direction is the absolute worst.  Vibes that you find the right house soon.

@hummingbird125, All the job vibes for your FI.

@minskat30, feel better soon!  Go home early and get some rest.

    @KeptinStitches, I love your FI's band!

    ---------------

Hi girls!  Not much is new with me.  Working, making holiday presents, same old.  I'm nixing my old blog because I let it die in March.  And really, I didn't want to have a blog that was SOLELY about makeup.  So I'm slowly creating a new blog, which is coming out pretty good, but isn't live yet.  Right now I'm working on my 101 in 1001 to add to the blog.  I'm at 85 or so right now.  There are more things I would want to add, but I don't want to talk about hyper personal (ie. sexual, professional, or familial) things on the internet when my name and information is out there for the world to see.  So I won't be including those things publicly.  If you've got any ideas, send them my way.
  • These posts are giving me puppy fever! Just kidding. I literally just had to pick up my dog from his "daycare" because he's been resource guarding toys all morning. He NEVER does that. I don't know if it's the cold or if hasn't gotten much exercise, but it's pissing me off. He has never gotten in trouble before, and then last week he started fighting over toys.

I bought a couple of Christmas presents last night. I got some sriracha salt for my little sister, and a bunch of meat spices/rubs for my dad. BF's family goes crazy with joke gifts in peoples stockings, so I found someone on Etsy that makes religious candles with celebrity faces on them. I got a Miley, a Buscemi, and a Walken. Pretty excited about those.

  • I'm double posting because I am incredulous right now.

Is anyone else insanely shocked about all the women coming forward saying they were molested by Bill Cosby? He has been the guy that I always pictured being the perfect husband/dad/grandpa/person. But then I just read an article that laid out a whole timeline since the 80s of all the accusations against him and such. I mean, this isn't only new stuff coming out........ I know enough to not ever put complete faith in the media, but this is pretty messed up shit.

I mean, as much as I loved Michael Jackson (and I honestly believe some families were just trying to get money from him), I also really think he acted inappropriately with children.

  • Hello, long lost friends! It's been a craaaazy few days. Wednesday night we found out FI's grandfather's cancer had spread all over, and his legs are now paralyzed due to a new tumor on his spine. Initially we were told he had a few days left, but as the night wore on, we found out it's more likely a few weeks or months. After a lot of back and forth, we decided to still go to Houston (which is 5 hours away) to see my family since we'd be back Friday.

Thanksgiving Day was really nice, albeit exhausting. It was so good to see my brothers, and my new nephew was just the cutest thing ever. When I held him, he wouldn't stop looking at FI. It was cute/hilarious/creepy. lol. The food was great, the company was great, and the hotel where we stayed was great. It was super fancy, so FI was happy. We stayed up late shopping online and watching How to Train Your Dragon on TV. Great day :)

Friday we had lunch with my aunt, uncle, and cousin on my step-dad's side (they live in the Houston area as well), and then we headed home. We found out that FI's friend's house had burned down Thanksgiving night, which was just awful. This particular friend had moved back home to help his parents out, and they lost everything but the studs basically. He posted pictures to FB, and they were heartbreaking. FI and I stopped at Walmart and bought them a gift card so they can get some essentials. :( When we got home FI helped me set up the Christmas tree and other decorations. For whatever reason we were super clumsy because we broke a few glass items that were sentimental. One we were able to krazy glue back together, but the other is a lost cause. :( The house looks good though, so I'm happy. Here's a pic of the tree last night after I wrapped a bunch of presents:
    image

On Saturday we went to FI's parents' house for Thanksgiving with his parents, brother, and brother's girlfriend. We feasted, and it was awesome. We found out a little bit more about FI's grandfather too. It doesn't look good at all, so at this point we can just hope that it's quick and relatively painless. FI's grandfather is very stubborn and refuses to take much more than ibuprofen, but I hope he gives in and takes the more potent pain killers soon. FI is going to try and go visit him every Saturday this month and help out with some chores around the house. Not sure what Christmas will be like this year. :-\ This will also be the first death in FI's family, so I'm not sure how he's going to react once it happens.

On Sunday I went and saw The Nutcracker with my mom, aunt, and cousin. It was so much fun! But I drank way too much (only 3 glasses of wine, but since I rarely drink, it hit me hard), and I was hungover by the end of the night. Then right before bed I went to blow my nose and got a massive nose bleed, which in turn caused a massive sinus migraine. I ended up staying home sick on Monday because the headache wouldn't let up, plus I had a stomach full of blood and wine from the night before. No fun. However, by 3pm yesterday I was back to normal, so I went to Target to get some Christmas supplies and groceries, and I spent the rest of the day wrapping gifts, cooking dinner, and making some fun pigs in a blanket for the shower today. Here's how they turned out:
    image

Today I've barely had time to sit at work. I've been running around all morning helping with training for a different department and then setting up my coworker's baby shower. It was so much fun! She got a lot of great stuff, and we ate a ton of good food. Now I have to try and motivate myself to work the rest of the day lol. Tonight I need to get my butt into a gym, and I don't know if I'm going to eat dinner or not... I ate way too much food at lunch, and I've binged on food the past few days. I need to get my diet back in check.

Oh! Also! I got a tea advent calendar from David's Tea, and it's one of my favorite parts of Christmas this year. Today's tea was a vanilla chai, and it was fabulous.

@southernpeach89 Let me know if you find any garland at Walmart. I went the other day, but all they had were wreaths and outdoor stuff. Target didn't have any garland either. Also, your pics are adorable!!!! My favorite is the one of Maddux on top of you two.

@Hummingbird125 Awwww that's so awesome that your sister is going to sing!

@WildMagelet Holy moly, that is awesome progress! Christmas is hard for dieting, but you're so close!

    @TwoDimes OMG PUPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@lmcooper86 I'm glad they extended the discount! A lot of websites went down with all the traffic over the weekend. Our local news ran an article about Best Buy's website going down during Black Friday lol. You'd think they'd be more prepared for the heavy traffic...

@minskat30 Oh wow, I'm so sorry that you keep getting sick :( This time of year especially is miserable when you're sick. I hope you feel better soon and that your immune system keeps everything in check in the future!

@KeptinStitches I love the ring! I think it's so cool when men wear rose gold.

@futuremrshistorian Oh geez, poor Mr. Historian :( I really hope he's able to find something better soon.

@AlPacina Eh, I'm shocked and I'm not at the same time. Most rapists/molesters are very charismatic, and since he was in a position of power... it just seems like the perfect situation for him to do what he pleased and get away with it. I'm just glad that women are finally speaking out and being heard. I hate that his legacy has to end on such a sour note, but that's karma for you.

  • @eilis1228, I'm so sorry to hear about your FI's grandfather. You, your FI, and his family are in my thoughts.
  • @KeptInStitches Thank you! I really appreciate it. At this point I hope it's a quick death. Since he refuses to take pain killers, he's in a ton of pain. He also refuses to stay in the hospital, so he's not receiving adequate care. It's driving everyone crazy because he won't help himself. On Wednesday when we found out how bad he was, I couldn't stop crying, but FI was very stoic and calm. I'm not sure how he'll react once his grandfather passes though.

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • @Ellis1228 - I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about your FI's grandfather.  Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.
  • @eilis1228 - I am so sorry about your FI's grandfather.  I lost both my paternal grandparents within 3 months of each other in 2012.  at first, I don't know that I really felt much (I thought I did, at the time), but it hit so hard later.  I'll be thinking of your FI and his family.  :(
  • @eilis1228 I'm so sorry about your FI's grandfather. When J's grandmother died, it was the first major death in his family (and the first funeral I ever went to), and it was really hard for everyone. Things are easier now, a couple years later, but we're in a really rough time right now because his grandparents' wedding anniversary was the day after our anniversary (and therefore our wedding), and it was the first big family event she missed.

@AlPacina Honestly, I'm not shocked. But I also have done a lot of sexual violence prevention, and I already knew about a lot of the women who came forward a long time ago. I'm mostly just surprised (and impressed) that it's finally caught up to him. It's always disappointing to find that a person you liked (either a friend or an acquaintance, or a celebrity or public figure) may have done some terrible things, but over time (and a lot of disappointments), I've found ways to cope with the disappointment.
