Appetizers that can travel?

Re: Appetizers that can travel?

  • Not in the slightest. Mixes work as does premade dough - just skip the premade crusts.

I usually use the pizza dough recipe on the back of the instant rise yeast package. Fleischmann's makes a pizza yeast (no idea how it's different from regular yeast) but the package has a great recipe on it.

  • I make flatbreads a lot. Homemade pizza crust, olive oil, kalamata olives, caramelized onions, and goat cheese. Very easy and looks fancy.
I've never tried homemade pizza crust. Or any crust; that's the part I always lazy-out on. Is it hard to make?
I don't find it hard at all.  Just takes some time due to the rising process.  I use this recipe...http://www.annies-eats.com/2008/08/15/perfect-pizza-crust/

I tend to divide the dough into third or fourths because I don't have a huge pizza stone and I tend to like a thinner crust.

Super Easy: Toast bread and cut down into squares. Mix softened cream cheese with lemon juice and dill, spread on toast, top with cucumbers or smoked salmon. I usually do a platter with a mix of the two. Looks pretty, tastes delicous.

    Does this work with crackers?

I haven't tried it but I don't think crackers would be the right consistency. The bread is only lightly toasted and ends up getting a little soft from the cream cheese and much softer and less crispy than a cracker would be.
  • best. appetizer. ever.  although you would need to heat it up somewhere.  served with water crackers http://allrecipes.com/recipe/brie-cheese-appetizer/
  • Those pinwheels someone mentioned above can be made lots of different ways.  I made a Mexican version with chilies, taco seasoning, green onions and Mexican cheese blend for a Mexican-themed potluck night.  There are lots of different versions out there that you can find on google or Pinterest.  They're super easy, travel well and require no cooking.
