Renting a mobile Essie nail polish store at bridal shower or reception for favors

Thoughts? I would pay for the colors and the girls could "buy" their own favors. Stupid or brilliant?

They're not favors if people have to pay for them.
  • So, as a favor at the shower, they get to pick a nail polish to take home?
  • Or a few. It;s stocked with most of the current line. Obviously, that wouldn't be it - just sort of a fun experience. And, yes essteee, I would pay for them!

  • Sounds like it is more trouble than it is worth. Why not just pick 3 popular colors and then let people pick their own from that?

  • Can you give some more details? I am not sure what a mobile nail polish store would entail. I think we need @lacqueredlover
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I guess I'm just really confused about what this would actually entail, since you said they'd be "buying" them.

Me too. I have no idea what you're trying to say or how this would work.

You shouldn't be hosting your own shower....so I don't see why you'd be involved with paying for anything shower related. And your reception is going to be 50% men so I don't see it working out for that either.

  • I just don't get it.  If Essie comes and paints my nails at a bachelorette party, I'd be in if I knew ahead of time so I didn't have my monthly gel manicure done right before.  And because I'd be willing to get a color or something funky just for the party.

At a shower, I just want the games to be over so I can go home.  I wouldn't stay to get my nails done.  I really would be pretty indifferent about picking out a nail polish.  Once a month, I pay to get an American gel manicure.  It lasts almost the entire month.  I no longer use polish since gel/shellac lasts 4-5x longer.

No way this is a good reception gift because approx. half the guests will be men.  And I can't imagine an elegant affair with a nail polish station.

I wish people would just keep it simple.  If I can drink it (mini champagne, mini bourbon, mini cocktail mixer, etc.), I love the favor.  If I can eat it, and it's commercially made--not from someone's kitchen--so a bakery made cookie or a packaged truffle--I might eat it.  If I can cook with it--maple syrup, bbq sauce, coffee--I might be interested if I haven't flown to wedding and have to deal with the 3oz rule for carry on roller bags.  Anything else--koozies, jewelry, trinkets, nail polish, etc., I wish the couple would've either saved the money for their future or bought more/upgraded food and bar.
  • I am so fascinated by this, so I tried to google it and this is all I could find.

Are you renting a vending machine???

I'm not going to lie, I am kind of mesmerized by the vending machine idea. If you confirm these are rentable I'm totally filing this away in my mind in case I ever throw a teenage girl's birthday party.

(But maybe not a wedding event.)

  • No.  I wouldn't do it.  Just have a custom polish made or something for a favor if you really want to do that but honestly, this just sounds odd to me.  To rent a whole mobile store seems like you're trying to impress people on some level to me, I would just put together a cute nail polish favor if that's what you want to do.

  • 1. I would definitely never do it for a reception unless you are not inviting any men (I know there are a small percentage of men who might do the polish thing, but that seems unlikely).

    2. This seems like more work that it's worth.

This is coming from someone who LOVES nail polish.  I may single-handedly be keeping Zoya in business.  I have more nail polish than 10 fingers and 10 toes can reasonably use in a lifetime.  But I'm pretty meh on this idea in general.  Would I love it?  For sure.  But I can also buy Essie at Target.  And in my circle of friends, I would say only about a third of them would actually care about the nail polish.  I get lots of comments on my nails from my friends, but also hear a lot of "Oh, I just don't have the time" or "It always chips and I have a tendency to pick at it so I don't bother" or "That would never work with my job (pottery teacher, house cleaner, assembler, etc.)" or "I just don't care or like how my nails look with polish because I bite them."
  • I think this sounds like a terrible idea, but I also don't do nail polish.

  • Know what? this sounds like such fun! I would be so into this at a reception. It probably would be better for a shower, but I don't go to them, so reception favors. I would be all over it.

Men don't care as much about fussy things like this, so a more mundane favor would please them.

If a nail polish station were at a reception, I would love you.

  • I think this would be far more appropriate at a shower. But I think it would be better o just have a few nail polishes as favors rather than a whole "store."
  • It's cute & different. As long as you don't have to pay for a minimum number of polishes. You'll have guests that don't take any because they don't wear polish or wear only a certain brand. But unless you go edible, you risk that with any type of favor at an event that there will people who won't like or use the gift. I guess the big thing would be from the perspective of the party thrower, is the cost of renting the machine and depending on the size getting it set up & taken back out worth it or would you be better off just going with a few colors from say Revlon or Covergirl & setting those out for people to pick from. If you go through Avon or Mary Kay you may be able to find a rep willing to give you a discounted rate due to the size of the order.

Not all women like "fussy things" either.
Oh no, of course they don't. Also, there are some men  who do like nail polish. We must establish, nothing in the world is liked, or disliked, by every person.
