Little Touches

I'm getting down to the nitty gritty- wedding is 5 weeks away! Big stuff is done and now I'm working on little details. I want to add a few more things that will really make my guests feel special, and make the wedding feel more personal for my friends and family.

What little extras did you use/are you using at your wedding? Flip flops? Candy bar? Cute table numbers? Lay it on me.

Some things that my guests commented on that they enjoyed:

- Restroom baskets

- Champagne greeting

- Boxes of chocolates for escort cards instead of just cards

- The after party (obviously that isn't a little detail, but it's still being raved about months later)

I'm sure there were some more things, but I just can't think of them right now. These things stuck out in my mind because people commented on them a lot.

We are using goblet-shaped candyholders filled with m&ms in our wedding colors and using the standard "favor tag" as our escort card. The goblet shape was important because we were getting married at a vineyard and thought it helped tie things in better.

We added an extra shuttle to go back and forth to the hotel.

We added an extra desserts to the vienesse table and a cordials bar in addition to the open bar. We also added a bananas foster station

We had a hotel suite at the hotel where guests were staying we had drinks, beer wine and food for them before the wedding and after the reception as well.

We planned them but we had Out of Town Bags, with water, candies, fresh fruit, chips, crackers, gum, advil, tums, Emergen-c and made cards with local things to do in the area- restaurants and entertainment ect.

We were also planning Welcome bags to greet out-of-town guests. But we ended up canceling the idea because of the cost. Just about everyone is out of town so the quantity was large and not everyone was staying at a hotel. Some were renting houses, etc. and it became a logistics nightmare. But it would've made a lovely touch if we were able to pull it off.

We're going to bring in some outside cupcakes and samosas that everyone raved about at our engagement party. Because they're seriously the best. We also ensured to get our cake there. People actually brought them home for their kids too. We are paying the hotel that we're booked at extra to keep the bar open later so we can have our after party there. So that's a real plus, since our venue was only open until 11pm. We wanted to make sure those of our guests that wanted to stay out later with us - could do so. We're also booking a mentalist/illusionist for our cocktail hour - to make sure they're entertained. He is going to go table to table and read their minds and such. We just thought it would be interesting. Those are the only things that are jumping out to me right now, but I'm very excited.

Randomly, I got more compliments on our restroom baskets than I expected. People definitely appreciated them.

For the women's we had - tide pens, lotion, safety pins, bobby pins, hair ties, hair spray, tampons, pads, mints, mouthwash and little dixie cups, gum, bandaids, disposable nail files, lint roller, disposable combs, advil, tums, disposable floss things

For the men's we had: tide pens, safety pins, mints, mouthwash w/ cups, gum, bandaids, lint roller, combs, advil, tums, disposable floss things

Us too!!! I was really surprised at how excited people were about the restroom baskets of all things. LOL

I got flip flops for my guests and I'm still hearing about how great it was to have something to change into... i took a big old box and used wrapping paper to have it match our theme and put them in there.

-We had a selection of soft drinks and Indian chai tea at the ceremony

-bathroom baskets

-return directions to the hotel

-we had the leftover cake and leftover lobster rolls boxed up and people brought them to the after party. It was all gone by the end of the night.

-we made collages of pictures with us with our guests throughout the years and placed them in the foyer.

We had a cherries jubilee station and it was a amazinggggg. Good call on the bananas foster. The after party was a huge hit, but I had nothing to do with it and we didn't even attend. My grandfather (he's the party animal in my family) got a suite at the hotel and hosted the after party. The pictures from it were crazzyyyy

We're doing:

-Cute welcome bags for out-of-towners (filled with a welcome note, a "do not distrb sign," a customized itinerary, maps of DC and of the metro, restaurant suggestions, bottled water, etc.)

-Restroom baskets

-Chocolates shaped like DC landmarks (Washington Monument, White House, etc.)

-I'm having my future MIL help me with a candy buffet for the end of the night

How much thought I put into the reception seating. I really knew my guests and mixed four families, both sets of high school friends, our college friends, and our parent's work friends and family friends. All of the tables were named after candy. Our head table was kisses. We had hugs (parents/grandparents), skittles, sweettarts, hersheys, reese's, snickers, 3 musketeers (both our 3 set cousins), starbursts, hot tamales (wedding party SOs), smarties, almond joys, nerds (accountants), ice-breakers, laffy taffy, kit-kats, jolly ranchers (grooms country friends), gummy bears, m&ms, rollos, warheads (young ROTC guys), lifesavors (vendors, junior mints (pre-teens table), and sour patch kids (kids table). We then filled little bride and groom boxes at each place setting with that candy.

I did bathroom trays, flip flops, welcome bags for guests staying at our hotel and I'm going to have the valets put bottles of water in my guests cars when they leave.
