Stressing a little about save the dates

Hi! We're getting married on 9/26/15. I wanted to send my STD's out in January, as FI's fam are all OOT. I'm still waiting on the final design so I can then upload it to Vistaprint and order our magnets. Things have just been crazy with the holiday's and I feel like I'm falling behind. I'm also reasoning that STD's are not even a "neccessary" thing, so they'll go out when they go out, right?

Where is everyone else at w their STD's?

Re: Stressing a little about save the dates

  • I've had my STDs for awhile now and have not yet sent them out. I am planning to do that in January. My wedding is 9/5/15. I think you have time. Oh and I did debate about getting STDs. My first inclination was to not do them but as I thought about the fact that my wedding is on the Labor Day weekend, that my FH has a lot of OOT family members, and that the hotels closest to my venue are located in a popular attraction area I had better send them out.

    Love is the ultimate superpower.
It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

  • @futuremrsjms we are date twins!

From what I've been hearing on TK you're good with sending out 8 months ahead if you have a lot of OOT people, as little as 6 months if the guests are mostly close by.

I'm with you though, I haven't even looked at or ordered STDs because I spent so much money on Christmas shopping, plus everyone is relatively close by and our wedding will be relatively small, so I think the idea of saving the date has been verbally communicated to everyone invited. I'll probably try and get started with the process sometime in Jan or Feb. So yeah, they'll go out when they do...

  • How cool is that?

  • Make that triplets! I am in Chicago. My FI and I have decided to go with using STD. We have been together 9 years and engaged 4. Everyone pestered us in the beginning on when we were going to set a date and we teetered on a date for a while. I guess this makes it official!!!

  • I went to college in Chicago! We are all cosmically connected!

Congrats on finally setting a date @creato2304 you picked a good one!

I'm seriously considering removing this damn wedding ticker from my signature, every time I see it I start freaking out.

  • Love that we're date triplets! :)

I am feeling slightly less stressted about the STD's. We got our final design back last night and FI and I both love it. We just need to upload it to Vistaprint and order them! Hopefully we will order them before we go to NJ to see FI's family for Xmas. When we get back we can address them and send them out. :)

  • I debated on getting STD's at first. But I found a killer deal on Vistaprint for magnets and it was a great way to show off our awesome engagement photos!! Planning on sending them some time next month!

You still have time! Don't stress and get to them when you get to them!

  • Nicolie-I just ordered the STD magnets from Vistaprint yesterday! They will be delivered by 12/30, so I'll be able to get them out in January.

From what I've read on other boards, it's "better" to hand address the envelopes. We're sending out around 90, so hand addressing them will be a wknd project. I need to practice my handwriting, it is terrible! :(

We have a return address stamp that I will use on the back flap.

  • Hooray! Our STD's arrived in the mail yesterday! We love them and are very happy w the quality (thank God, bc I didn't want to get stuck w 100 of them!)

Going to tackle hand addressing them ths weekend. We should be able to get all 86 done over the weekend and New Year's Day.

  • I have browsed some ideas online, but we have not really made any decisions yet other then I know I want them to be magnets. I think we will pick something soon and either order them this month or next month and send them out in February or March. Our guest list is around 100 so we probably only need 50 of them. Anyone have suggestions of an inexpensive website, I really do not want to spend a lot on STD's.

I ordered the calendar magnets from Vista Print. For 100 magnets + 100 envelopes (which you have to order seperately), I spent $98. I had a code for free 8 day shipping. Really happy with the final product and would highly recommend.

We're sending out 86 STD's, so we have some extra envelopes for "mess ups," but I'd recommend ordering extra if you're sending out the exact amount you're buying.

I started my side of invites yesterday, and I already messed up on 2 of the envelopes, so 'm glad we had some extra! :)

  • I guess I make us 9/26/15 quadruplets! Best date ever! Mine will be arriving on Monday. My fiance has a ton of family coming in from Chicago (our wedding is in New Orleans) so I was a little stressed out and feeling like I was behind. I just reasoned with myself that our wedding is relatively small (about 150) and pretty much everyone already knows our wedding date already. Good luck y'all!

    Love it! :)
  • I have to admit that we sent our STD's out suppppper early. Back at the end of September. My FI is a pilot and we are inviting a lot of his current and past co-workers. In the aviation business it is not unusual for pilots to have to bid an entire year in advance for vacation days. This is often done in November. So we wanted to get the STD's out before then so that people could be aware of the wedding date when they were bidding for vacation last November.

We were going to just send the early STD's to the pilots but then we were worried about other people wondering why some got them and others didnt so we just did the whole lot.

  • I am a early sender to mine went out in nov. But I have a lot of military and out of town guest.
  • Another 9/26'er chiming in! My STDs are printed, but I'm still waiting on my mother and FMIL to finalize their chunks of the guest list with names and addresses. I've asked them both to get everything back to me by February 6th at the latest, so I have time to proof everything and get the STDs addressed (the space on the postcard is juuuust too narrow for a standard mailing label, so I'm still strategizing that part). My plan is to get them in the mail by the end of February, which is ~8 months out. The majority of our guests will be OOT, though many are just in the next state over.
  • I'm another 9/26/15 bride-to-be as well!

We honestly haven't looked into STDs or invites that much yet as I don't want to send out anything too early... And my fiance doesn't seem to have much opinions on STD/invite designs, and I am so indecisive myself. :p
But we will probably plan to send out STDs near the end of March so it will be 6 months out from the wedding date.

  • WOW! Loving all of thse other 9/26'ers!

STD's have all been mailed out and received and I got a lot of compliments on them. Now, I'm in the beginning stages of researching invitations. There are SO many choices, it's overwhelming.

@futuremrsjms - I have been researching invites too now that our STD's are out and you're right SO overwhelming! My wedding book is overflowing with invite samples and I am still trying to narrow it down. Many of the sites will allow you a certain amount of free samples of their invites which is great way to feel out the quality and design (if you havent already done so).
  • @CourtC77 I ordered some samples from wedding paper divas and hated them all! I ordered samples from another site (which I can't remember the name of now!) and my Mom just got her sample set in the mail and said she loved them! Really hoping my samples are in the mail when I get home. My FI insists we have formal invites w raised print...
  • We ordered ours from MagnetStreet.com and we LOVE them! They were also much cheaper than Wedding Paper Divas :)

What size did you get? We just ordered the business card magnets off vistaprint last night...I'm crossing my fingers they turn out okay! I just ordered address return labels from them a week ago and business cards in the past, but used a design of theirs. FI designed our STD's, something sort of simple, but the one image looked a little blurry after I got the confirmation and you log back in to check the status of your order.

  • @nessiemmmkay-I ordered the calendar magnets. I think they're around 4x6 size? They came out great!
  • We just got our 2nd screwed up shipment from vistaprint :/ this wasn't as bad as the first, but at the bottom we put our wedding website and it keeps coming out blurry...now we have to call them again.

  • I got mine through Photoaffections.com. It is were we got our Christmas Card/Engagement announcements. The plus for me was I was able to upload my address book and they addressed them for me....it cost about 40.00 extra dollars but was worth it

  • nessiemmmkay that stinks! I didn't have any issues w VP.

@tj&cw that is awesome. Yes, $40, is totally worth it IMO too. I hate my handwriting, but I wrote out all of ous (and used a stamp with our first names on it, on the back of the envelope for return address) FI actually threw out the one I addressed for his parents and wrote it himself, he was so horrified by my hand writing! LOL In my defense, it wasn't THAT bad, but knowing his Mom, she def would've made a snark about it.
