The Vampire Chronicles- Anne Rice

Anyone a fan of these books? I saw that there is a new Lestat book out and can't decide if I want to read it or not. I'm kind of worried that it will be horrible.

Re: The Vampire Chronicles- Anne Rice

  • I haven't read any of them since high school, and I think I read some of them out of order. I should add that into my loooong list of stuff I want to read this year.

  • Read them all. My husband got a signed copy of the new one. I haven't read it, but he liked it.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I've only read Interview with the Vampire, but it's in my top 10 books ever list so I'd say I'm a fan.

  • I felt like Interview was an excellent novel, well written and plotted and a great read in every way. The Vampire Lestat, definitely less so, but still a fun read. Queen of the Damned, she started losing me. I have enormous respect for Ms. Rice, but sometimes she just gets so frikking self indulgent, and loses sight of the storyline. I get the feeling she's just listening to herself write. I may read it, but I'm not wild crazy to read it.

Loved The Witching Hour, and loved Cry To Heaven.
  • I adore these books and actually just recently re-read Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, which are my favorites from the series. Queen of the Damned was my favorite of the three - Tale of the Body Thief and Memnoch the Devil went slightly downhill for me in comparison.

I want to read The Prince Lestat also but am concerned I'll be disappointed as well - however it gets 4.5 stars on amazon so I'm gonna go for it.
  • I've read them all, and I have the big reference guide to the series. I haven't gotten the newest one yet because... well... lazy. Actually, it's more like FOCUS. I have so much other stuff that needs to get done, but I know if I get the book that I'll just binge-read it all in one night, then re-read and analyze it for a week after that. That's time I could spend trying to pawn the rest of this limoncello cake on people!

  • I love almost all things vampire. Dracula has been a favorite since I read it in college, read tons of spin-offs based on the characters, and didn't hate Twilight even.

I LOATHED these books. It was agony trying to read them. So glad I bought an e-version so they weren't taking up space on my shelf.

Good luck to anyone who reads the new one.
  • I started reading Prince Lestat last night. It doesn't have the magic of the first books but so far it isn't bad and it feels more like Anne Rice than some of her other recent books have. If you decide to read it I highly recommend rereading The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Dammed first because it makes a lot of references to the events in those books.
  • I own the first three books, but haven't quite gotten all the way through Interview With A Vampire. I really enjoyed the book though and am going to start reading it again. It's very wordy at some points, but it is a great read altogether. Plus, if you liked the movie you should like the books just as much, if not more.
