How's your Friday?

Me? No right to complain. And yet I will. I went back to work today after two weeks off (woo-hoo jobs in higher ed!) and I am dog tired. I had trouble falling asleep and don't know how I'm even sitting upright right now. A lot of people took the day off and students don't arrive until next week so the campus is pretty much dead right now. My boss told me I could leave early and I decided I would once I finished all my work, but I'm so tired that I'm having trouble concentrating. Ugh.

But on the bright side, after work I'm going to BN to buy some travel guides to start planning our honeymoon, and I'll be trying my hand at one of my favorite Japanese dishes for dinner: chicken katsu curry! So that's making me smile.

What's making you groan today? What's making you smile?

Groan: I'm here with one other person and she is an absolute MICROMANAGER. I told her I was done with my testing this morning and she immediately went into my testing and asked questions on everything. She's not my superior. She's my peer.

Smile: I should be able to leave early and starting drinking my weekend into oblivion. And I believe it's going to snow tomorrow, which means I can spend all day in my jams!

  • Ugh, that's annoying. My office is thankfully far away from anyone in my department. Lonely sometimes, but good when my coworkers are complaining about our boss hovering over their shoulders.

I miss snow! I decided to forgo my annual trip to visit my family up north, so I might not get to see any this year.

  • Swapping cars all around uuuuuugh. FI's truck is ready for pickup from the shop after they fixed some throttle issue. He's got my car, and my mom had to pick me up so I could take their spare car and follow her to the collision center and get her car looked at. Now I gotta go get his truck, AND pick up his snowmobile, and get the hell home. TOO MANY CARS.

  • My Friday has been kind of a bummer thus far. We found out that one of my department's favorite clients passed away at his desk right before Christmas. At his desk. No matter how much I may love my job, I do not want to spend my final moments at the office. And because no one was here over the holidays, we didn't get to send any flowers or anything. So we're all sad about that today, because he was a really great person who everyone loved working with.

On the bright side, boss gave the OK for me to go ahead and take a week and a half off for my honeymoon. Yay!

  • After about 6 hours of grueling setup last Monday my company has graciously enabled me to be able to work from home "when necessary". Today, it was necessary that I stay in my pajamas and drink cocoa.

This is the first time in my career that I have been able to work from home. Holy. Shit. This is fucking amazing. Plus I can be in on Knot stuff all day because I usually can't go on at the office!

Dear lord, thank you, thank you for giving me this.

  • What's making me groan - I started a new medication on NYE and am having some rough side effects.  I've basically been nauseous and exhausted for 2 days.  Hoping it will even out soon.

What's making me smile - been having a great couple days with my future step kids.  Spent all day yesterday building Lego, playing checkers and croqinole, snuggling on the couch, reading books together and just having a great time as a family.  Plus when my FI took the kids out to run around a bit since I was feeling so sick, they went to the grocery store to pick up dinner and brought me back flowers.  It was incredible sweet.

And tomorrow my brother and sis in law get to meet the step kids for the first time!   They live on the west coast and are visiting and I'm so excited!

  • Oh and another thing to make me smile, I think we figured out our first dance song.

  • Smile: I have a DVR full of stuff I want and get to watch. Groan: I have to work on grading projects while I watch.

  • I'm at work, and I really, really don't want to be here today. But, it is Friday!

I just changed my hours from 7:30 to 3:30, so it will be nice getting out 30 mins earlier every day.
  • Smile: my office is closed today. I'm on the couch in my jammies.

Groan: We moved around a bunch of boxes to make the downstairs nice for FILs to come over, and now they all need to be either unpacked or condensed and brought into the storage closet in the the garage.  Ugh.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Groan:  I am at work.  When I got to the office (about 45 minutes later then normal) there were approximately 25 cars in the parking lot for a building that holds 200 people.  So I thinking today will be a Netflix binge watching day.

Smile:  Since I knew that work would be dead today I am very comfortable in my Uggs, new hoodie and my stretch jeans with an elastic waist band.

  • Boo to everyone who had to go to work today!

Groan: Not a huge groan but since I have the day off there's no excuse to not do a thorough cleaning of my place today. I hate cleaning but always feel better when it's done..

Smile: I'm off work today so I got to sleep in! And I'm going rock climbing tonight!

  • Groan:  I'm at work, nothing more to add.

Smile:  I'm signing up for an Annie Sloan painting tips workshop this weekend! I'm really pumped to try that out. Also, my work deemed today "Dip Day" to celebrate Tennessee being in a bowl game.  So, we all brought a dip to share while watching the game. I brought corn and black bean dip, and Fiesta Ranch dip.

  • Groan: Also back at work today for the first time since the 18th! Definitely rough getting up, but is super quiet here today so I'm hopeful to be productive and get caught up (aka spend the day on TK).

Smile: Getting Chipotle for lunch today!
  • Groan: I'm sleepy and at work. I want to be sleeping.

Smile. I'm going to go get sushi for lunch.

  • Groan: I was suppossed to work from home today, but I forgot a few things I needed at the office so I dragged my ass in anyways and am just going to stay here and work.

Smile: I'm one of like 5 people here and the others are all planning on leaving early. I like when I'm the only one in the office. Also I'm going to order in for lunch.
  • nurses that I work with are horrible at charting and they refuse to understand how much legal trouble they can get into. Oh well, at least I know how to cover my own ass.

Cereal sucks. I always forget how it doesn't fill me up. I have a stomachache from eating out for almost two weeks straight- which was out of my control.

Coffee doesn't make me poop anymore. This is sad because I liked pooping daily.

    I do look hot today.

  • I'm at work today and still trying to get over the flu. I wanted to go home around lunch today but my manager, who's also her and sick but has also been off since before Christmas, said we all just need to suck it up today and get through it. So I'm miserable and sitting in my office doing nothing when I could be home sleeping. Plus side - it's Friday so I have two days off to look forward to.
  • Today is going pretty good so far. I have a fairly slow day at work today, so I am going to see if my coworkers want to go get Thai for lunch.

I am looking forward to tonight because it is date night and H and I are going to go see a movie and then vedge at our place.

my FI has a total of 9 cars, half of which are project vehicles (super annoyed, so i understand the car swapping and confusion lol.

  • We got a big dumping of snow yesterday and last night and its super windy so its drifted up everywhere. Trying to get to my car i was wading through knee deep drifts. My neighbours car which faces the other direction was almost completely buried. Could just see the tip of the drivers window.

Because of this my little car was not going anywhere, there's no way it would have been able to navigate the parking lot, let alone the way to work. So my heroic FI got up and cleared the 2 feet of snow off of our SUV and drove me to work. I'm really hoping they plow at somepoint today otherwise my car might be out of commission for the rest of winter. It's snowed in there good.

Other then that it's a meh kind of morning. Was up late last night trying to win a losing battle against this sneaky bugger of a mouse in my house. Seriously. I've practically moved all food sources upstairs and away from the kitchen and placed copious amounts of deliciously baited traps around the house and he just manages to crap over my entire kitchen and then go into hiding for a day. Grawr.

  • My happy part of the day--not having to go back to work until Monday and our new pellet stove that is blasting heat.

Annoying part of the day--grading papers that I need to hand back on Monday and trying not to bang my head on the wall because my seniors apparently believe that blanket statements and sweeping generalizations win arguments.

Your boss is sick and is encouraging you, who is also sick, to stay at work? Possibly infecting other people with your joint illnesses?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR BOSS!?

YAY! What song are you thinking?

Groan: I'm at work today, and so bored. It's still pretty slow, and there is really not much to do. Also, I gave up all the booze, cheese, and carbs so this will be a fun weekend.

Smile: I'm going out to lunch with my mom and my uncle who is visiting from Canada. I have not seen him since I was about 10. And, it's Friday.

I agree with this.  Not sure what you do for a living, but there are very few things that are that important that you need to stay at work sick with the flu.

How awful! I have employees who sometimes try to come in even though they're sick. They call or come to my office and say, "I'm not feeling well, but I don't want to let you down so I'm going to power through!" I tell them, nope, go home. You work in close contact with people; we don't need an epidemic.

Well my plan had been to just come in for the morning to get everyone caught up (all the higher ups were on vacation all week and it was hell Tuesday and Wednesday with issues) and go home around lunch. That's not going to happen any longer so I've decided to shut the door to my office and do jack shit all day if I have to be here. My big boss isn't here today, otherwise she'd let me go in a heartbeat.

We are thinking "When I Get My Hands On You" by the New Basement Tapes.  Bob dylan lyrics have a very special place for us, in fact Bob Dylan was involved with our proposal haha
