@lurkergirl I swear you get used to it. When I lived in AZ, my blood really thinned out and I was like you. I came home to visit my brother one year and his was on 60 and I literally thought I was DYING. My teeth were chattering.

But now that I have lived here for a few years, I'm totally used to it. I don't even sleep with pants or socks. Sure, it would be nice to have that shit on 75 but you have no idea how expensive oil is. You have electric heat. We have a 200 gallon tank of oil in the basement ($4 a gallon) and even set that low, we fill it twice per winter. So I made myself get used to it rather than pay a thousand more dollars.

lyndausvi sorry that you have to wait until tomorrow, hope you have a space heater and stuff until then, and hopefully they fix it on the spot.

Haha we have natural gas not electric, but if our bill were that high, I would be trying to deal with keeping it down too!

  • ...this entire thread makes me so thankful we only have a few days each year that are really truly cold. Southwest sounds like the place to me.

  • Electric heat is usually more expensive than gas and oil. Luckily, I have gas heat. We leave ours at 64. I can't believe people need their heat in the 70s. My parents (also live in NE) had their house at 73 or 74 and my husband and I were roasting.

Anything below 70 in the house, and my teeth chatter uncontrollably.  It's about 28F out right now and mine is on 72, and my fingers are like ice.  I'm wearing flannel pj pants, a sweatshirt, socks, and fuzzy slippers too.  I need gloves and a hat.  Glad I have gas heat, too, but the bill will still be mind numbing this month.  Thinking about buying some more insulation and putting it up in my attic, to see if the extra layers help.

On the flip side, my AC is usually set to 75 in the summer, or I'm equally as cold indoors.
  • You know you are a Canadian when you see all these F temps and go whaaaaaaaat?

  • I couldn't handle that 60 degree stuff. Hate being cold.  I keep that heat at 70, build a fire almost every night, and wear fuzzy socks and a sweater. And splurged on white furry throw blankets for both the couch and settee, for extra fuzzy warm night time reading/ fire watching.
I wish I had a giant heat rock, like a lizard.
People used to tell me it was because I was skinny, but those days are long gone, and I'm still cold.
  • I wouldn't dig 60 degrees inside either. I'm a fan of 68-70 degrees and even then I'm often in layers of long sleeves and sherpa slippers.

I hope it's fixed soon Lynda!
  • I just miss forced hot air/AC. It was nice setting the temperature to X and it just went there and stayed there. Now we've got old forced hot water baseboard heaters and we have to dick around with the wood stove all the time.

I do appreciate that it's 70+ in here though. Phenomenal.

  • It's -1 F right now. Heat is set to 62, wood stove is on. Girls and I are camping by the stove. It's comfy. Dog heat works well. As does cat heat. I have a rex kitty refusing to move off my feet.
