Things for the new year

1. I got the Clinque Black Honey Affair palette for Christmas and I'm in love with it.  It goes on great and stays perfectly. image

2. I got this set from Kohl's and I want to live in it forever.  I love that the pants are legging-ish.  Super comfy and warm.

3. DH and I are getting ready to put French doors on my office here soon! YAY!!  I can't wait!

4. We're taking a ski trip to MI next year over MLK weekend.  I haven't been skiing since I was a kid.  I think DefConn is going to be hilarious.

5. School should have started today not tomorrow...I'm *praying* the kiddo finds some friends to hang with that live around here soon.  Or else it's going to be a loonnnggg summer.  Boarding school doesn't look so bad from where I'm sitting. ;)  I know he's bored, but there are times when the snotty shit that comes out of his mouth makes me want to punch a wall.  I will be looking into stuff for him to do...I am encouraging him to think about going out for the swim team at the HS.  I think they have summer practices. He likes swimming...and I think it would be good for him.

Re: Things for the new year

  • 1.  I have the original Black Honey something-or-other palette.
    image

1a.  Speaking of makeup---CW is on YT again.  I almost fangirled about her latest video, but that might be a little googly-eyed of me.  So I refrained.

    2.  I found a cardigan on Modcloth that I really like, then I remembered again, that I have about a dozen+ cardigans.  It might be time to start buying something else.  Maybe?

    3.  Ha.  We're most likely replacing our slider in the walkout basement to a french door.  That way H can move his tools into the basement for the time being.  Of course FIL/BIL disagreed and thought a french door situation with a stationary side would work better.  Um...what about NEEDING MORE space to access the basement didn't you get?

    4.  I'm not so good at skiing.  My tendency to have mental spazz moments while careening down a mountain lead to many spills.  It's entertaining for my H though.

    mine:

    6.  My parents are leaving for the winter, traveling by car through FL, AZ and CA.  My dad has yet to join the 2000s and pay bills online.  So he left me pre-made out checks and I "get" to pay his bills while they're gone.  ANNOYING.  But they would do the same for me, so I'll suck it up.

  • I have a Clinique palette- the Teddy Bear quad, and it is no bueno. For Christmas I got Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Sticks. A bit frosty but so pretty and they last for-evah. I also got a By Terry Ombre Blackstar and I'm currently figuring out how to afford more. My sister also got me a YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oil and it's amazing.

I love makeup. I am currently trying to pare down my stash and curate it. No one really needs VIB Rouge or ULTA Platinum status, especially not me.

  • Pmeg---your mention of By Terry and YSL make me super jealous.

I have so much schtuff....it's more than a person can wear in a lifetime---besides foundation and powder.  Other than that...wasteful.
  • 1. Oooooh I need new makeup but for now I'm having fun with the nail polish I got for Christmas. 2. I'm trying hard to wear pants more than yoga pants outside the house. I failed today. 3. I have my layout for the build and I'm stoked. My laundry room and family room more than double in size and I have a place to put coats when people come in. I've been ogling Pinterest for ideas. 4. I love skiing but haven't been in years. 5. I doubt school starts for us tomorrow. 6. My ils leave for Florida tomorrow. 7. I need to get on the ball and plan our summer vacation.
  • I got a lot of make-up for Christmas.  I need to go through and toss a bunch of stuff.  It's all stuff I haven't worn in forever.  My make-up bag is over flowing.  Maybe I'll do that tonight while I watch TV.
  • I love my YSL things. I ended up picking up a Glossy Stain during the Spring Sephora sale as a treat from my last year's bonus. I got another one during the fall sale because I loved my first.

The By Terry thing was a huge splurge. I honestly feel bad using it for a second but then I don't because it is amazing. I ended up usign it with one of my indie shadows and it was awesome.
  • I went on a ski trip when the Mr. and I were dating.
I should try again.  I suck at it though.  I can mostly handle hurtling down the bunny hills, but when I fall (often) I have to remove my skis to stand back up.  WHich results in the ski hurtling down the hill without me, and sending the then Boyfriend Mr. down the hill to go get the ski, then up to the top of the hill on the lift, then skiing back down to me....
    Yeah.
(There was a ski place in Grand Rapids that had dirt-cheap rates on Sundays.  We learned that superbowl sunday = AWESOME time to ski on the cheap :)

Makeup-I got the O-glow from smashbox someone recommended, to replace the poise-tint from benefit that I'm 'meh' about.  I lurve it and I totally am enthralled that it changes color on my fingertip as I watch it.  I'm sure it's just the normal reaction with air, but I need to experiment now more with it.

And I got like 4 pairs of shoes from ModCloth for Christmas.  My feet are happy and set for a while.

  • 1. I think I need an eye shadow intervention. I tend to buy the same colors and it's time to step out of the box.

    2. I'm working on my 2015 goals. I completed three out of the five from last year, so I will carry over the two that I didn't do and add three more.

    3. I cleaned out two closets and feel so good about it. I'm a purger by nature, but I got rid of even more stuff I was holding on to. Is it wrong that I still have a pair of my high school gym shorts from 1987? Yes..... They look so small to me, but I know that I wore them. I used to have my senior shirt, but I can't seem to find it. Those are the only clothes I kept from HS, I promise.

    4. I walked on LSU's campus over the break and relieved the quad. I skipped many a class to hang out there.

    5. I've come to the conclusion that I'm tired of trying to fill my overabundance of free time doing crap that I really don't want to do, just so I can say I'm doing something. So, I plan on focusing on finding stuff that I am truly interested in and be ok with chilling on my sofa.

    6. Can you have a mid-life crisis at 41? I really feel like quitting my job and moving to Europe for a year. Wasn't that what I was suppose to do at 21?

  • NOLA-

I PPH your number 5.  Live with intention, not mindless stuff.  I think that's great.

Also, your number 6---this is why I started to see a Therapist.  I'm on some sort of "who is O-face really!?"-without outside influence.

*whispers*  I have a pair of birkenstocks from 7th grade.
  • Another thing:  I went dark with the new hair color, and put red high (low?) lights in.  It's also shorter than it's been in forever. It's super cute and DH loves it (he said he doesn't want me to go any shorter) . I'll post a pic as soon as this monster zit, that should have it's own zip code, clears up.

I think I'm going to do all over color next appt and start to lighten up and then I think for summer, I'm going to put a few purple streaks in for funsies.
  • My makeup is saaaaaad: One garnier BB cream, one ELF brown shadow, one eye primer I never use, one maybeline (? the pink one) mascara, one lip gloss that should probably be tossed.
  • Haven't done much for myself in the New Year. I don't think that'll change much with a newborn on the way.

    1. We got PF a new 5 point harness-to-seat-belt-booster-to-regular-booster car seat. I moved her older and clunkier convertible seat to my car.

    2. My aunt asked us to do a registry for Baby Normous 2.0. I feel a little weird doing it for a second baby, but I will. I appreciate her wanting it. We got rid of just about all of PF's baby stuff.

    3. New car is making me happy, despite being really old and I'm a little scared it'll break on me. I love the freedom. Especially when H is out of town.

  • 6---I don't think that's bad at all.  All one REALLY needs is:

    Tinted Moisturizer/Foundation if necessary
    Concealer
    Blush
    Mascara
    Lipgloss

Anything else is just overkill.  So basically I have enough to fill a nice 3 drawer stackable, along with another 10+ palettes.  Who needs that?  *shakes head*  I did this all prior to 2014 and maybe even most of 2013 so...in probably 3-4 years.
  • Re 2: I did one. Not for people getting us stuff, but because of that completion discount. A few people did buy us stuff off there, but a few weeks before DD was born I bought the remainder of the items that were there that we really wanted and the 10% off was really nice.

  • Yes, I know a lot of peeps who did a registry for #2 just for the completion discount(s).

Did I tell y'all that Mr.Conn said it 'wouldn't be so bad' if a DefConn2.0 happened?  Considering I have an IUD, we'd have to plan that shit. But I was all sorts of "Whaaa?!" when he said that.  We were both on the same, "We're done!" page...but now...IDK.  He also may be trying to reverse-psychologize me into getting a dog...which is so not happening. I don't need another thing to take care of that probably won't listen to me either and I'll have to clean up after.
DH agreed to a vasectomy for Christmas. Everything is coming up PMeg in 2015.
  • Last one.

I've turned into the chick that doesn't want to go if I know it's only going to be couples. I know!!!! I never used to be that way, but now I would rather run a 5k than sit around a table of married folks and act like I'm having a fab time. That's so woe is me, I know, but hopefully that will pass and I will roll up to the next event happy as a clam.:)

I've thought about going to talk to someone too. I think it's starting to affect my self-esteem and I've always had a pretty good one. I'm really very happy in every other aspect of my life but this one. That's pretty common, I know, but it still sucks sometimes.

The new year is always a time of reflection for me and I guess that's what I'm doing. Sorry. I'll post something funny next.:)

  • I did a registry for 3 just for completion codes.  I did need to replace a few things.
  • BIL had a horrid vasectomy (it got infected and he ended up in the ER and some other stuff) experience and it's scared the shit out of DH.
  • Those with babies and slightly older babies - how do you feel about double strollers?

H wants to get one, I want to keep the singles we have and wear the new baby. He makes a valid point that if there is an emergency with PF and I'm wearing the baby it'll make it more difficult to handle, but I think differently. I think handling the baby in a wrap or carrier will be far easier (at least while still tiny) than trying to deal with a giant stroller.

There is also the fact that PF is over 30 lbs and will quickly outgrow many double strollers weight capacity especially if 2.0 isn't a failure to thrive baby like PF was.
  • There will also come a time when the baby isn't such a baby and will want to be out.  What will you do then?  What if baby hates being worn?

I'd do the research on doubles before discounting.  I have a basic one and it's really not much bulkier than a single.

  • Hm, I see both sides. We have a sit and stand and still use it for the zoo and places we'll walk a lot/have a lot to carry. I don't know what your current single is but more kids means morestuff so you might think about your existing storage.
  • Stupid knut is being stupid.
  • how much do you expect to need the baby-bucket?

The ONLY reason I needed/used a stroller 90% of Buffy's baby-hood was because the stupid car-seat + baby = heavy and hard to carry, unless clicked into the stupid stroller.
I was, in theory, very pro-baby-wearing but, in practice, I found it a PITA around the house and impossible in public because I hated getting her into/out of the stupid car-seat (inevitably waking up a child who hadn't slept in 8 hours who was keen on crying) --so keeping her in said seat and clicking that into a stroller was the only reasonable way to move around w/ her in public.

(^of course, that assumes you can double-seat w/ a baby-bucket.  I dont know if you can.  And...it might still make sense to have the double for when he has to deal--I never got the knack of baby-wearing, but the Mr. never ever managed to get the moby tied around him right.)
  • PF isn't (probably ever) going to be able to use any sort of standing piece. I'm trying to do some research. It's not easy. And I don't even want to think about trying to find anything adaptive for SN.

I plan on starting with the wearing right away. Hopefully this one will love it the way PF did/does.  Also once this one is mobile it might make things MUCH easier. Actually, a sit n' stand might work at some point with 2.0 can stand on one....
  • For us, we never even bought a double stroller. We have our original and we have a Boba carrier. If I'm out with both kids and we need a stroller I bring the Boba as well. DD still likes to be worn and she's at an age/weight where I can do a back carry with her. DS has never liked the stoller and is happy to walk (holding a hand). But, we never were big stroller users to begin with. I think I have used our stoller less than 20 times in the 4+ years I've owned it so it never made sense for me to buy a double.
  • We have the Joovy Caboose Ultralight.  The kids can actually sit on the back half of it and there is a strap, but it is a bitch for them if the carseat is sitting on the front.  Max was able to start standing on the back and sit back there without issue this summer so at 18 months.

  • That's another thing. Carriers. I have 2 ergos, I think I want something lighter for the newborn days. More wrap-ish but not necessarily a wrap.

Oy. This was easier when planning for just the one.
  • The tula has been a much discussed carrier on another site.  I only had the ergo so I didn't pay attention.
  • Dixie- get a woven wrap or a ring sling. The ring slings can come in a linen like fabric which is pretty breathable. The woven wraps aren't like the Mobys- they have more structure and you can actually wrap them for older kids. If I could justify it, I'd drop the money on a woven wrap. You can look at a local babywearing group. Some of them have lending libraries to get a feel of the item. The other option is a Boba Air which is like a soft structured carrier but supposedly more breathable.
