I know you are out there because this boot conversation happens every couple months.

Now that H and I are moving to the 'burbs, I decided it is go time for some real winter boots. (blergh. It is SO COLD outside). Which Sorel boots do you have and would you suggest them?

Tofino in the curry color. Love love love.

    Edited to correct the name.

  • I have the Joan of Artics in brown. Love them!
  • Ugh, I wish I could afford these.
  • I have the Tivoli II in suede.    I love them in terms of warmth and comfort.

I wish I got the higher ones.  I underestimated how deep the snow would get and it's only the first of January.   I also underestimated where they dogs would poop in relation to me having to get there to pick it up.

Snowlion XT in black for winter here. My feet are warm, I don't care on appearance.

Eta - name correction. Good to -40°. Or for my constantly cold feet, 5° and I'm comfy.

Tivoli II Blanket in black also. Comfy, nice for hockey games. Another Tivoli pair, but I forget which ones. They were a Christmas present, haven't worn them yet.

The gray Campus Ugg type. I like 'em. I may or may not wear them in warmer weather because people have a silly compulsion to air condition everything to 50°.

  • I bought the black Joan of Arctics and they're very warm, but fit pretty wide, and I admit I look ridiculous.

I tried on the Joan of Arcs.  They felt so wide too me.   I kept looking down and seeing huge duck feet.

  • My legs look like little sticks coming out the top of them, and I don't have disproportionately small legs or anything. But they are warm.

It really shows how classy I am that I came in here thinking this was about a mushroom.

I wear Everest hiking boots. They are somewhat waterproof and I wore them in -46F last year and my feet were toasty. My fingers and face were frostbitten, however. You don't really need waterproof when it's too cold for anything to melt ever.

Good to know! I have such trouble because I have wide feet!

  • I just bought a pair of Tofinos. I've work them twice so far and am in love.

I also love Boggs but my thick calves can't accommodate the taller models.

  • I got the angel lace ups for Christmas and I'm in loveee
  • I have the Caribou in Buff. They are heavy so I only wear them in deep thick snow.
  • Y'all let me know when you're ready for flip flop recommendations. We are about to have 4 (!) days in a row of below freezing weather. I will be hiding inside. :sunglasses:

  • id love the have the tivoli twist ones. the price scares me. i can justify them but when they are saying a short winter i know i will regret it.

  • I have the Joan of Arctic knit and I love them. They are wide but they are toasty warm and come up really high. They are also pretty grippy on the bottom - I don't feel like my feet are going to fly out from under me when I'm taking the dog for a walk and it's icy.

They are a little heavy but I got used to them very quickly. I have a bunch of friends that have the Tofinos (which are very similar) and they like those better than the Joan of Arctic boots.

Mine are a little heavy too (as in, heavier than my fall boots that have 0 insulation and 0 ability to keep my feet dry). I don't even notice it anymore, though. My only other complaint is that the boots were initially a tiny bit snug around my ankles (and I have skinny little chicken legs) which I've heard other people complaining about too, but after the first winter of wearing them, they loosened up a bit and now they're perfect.

I don't find them heavier than other winter boots, but they are really winter winter boots, they're not meant for mild temps as a fashion thing so they are definitely heavy-duty.

I didn't notice the ankle thing - mine feel wide pretty much everywhere (although they have the lacing so I can tie them close around my legs) and I DON'T have skinny little chicken legs (although they make me look like I do...ick.) Bottom line is that I would never wear them if I didn't really need warm feet. I miss my Uggs, lol.

  • @amelisha I don't notice any ankle issues with my Joan of Arctic boots. They are definitely super duty winter boots, no question. Mine are cute but they're meant for serious weather (which we get). I just bought a pair of knock-off Uggs (RIP cute Bailey Bow Uggs that have a hole in the toe) to wear to bring the dog outside or bring the garbage can in because getting my Sorels on and off takes longer than the actual chore.
  • I just got my Joan of Arctic knits for Christmas, and yes they are a bit wide, but i dont mind it and I love them!

I have the Caribous. They come out on snowy days, or days where my driveway is a skating rink and I don't want to fucking quintuple-salchow out to my car. Like today.

  • I have the Caribous and I wish I had sprung for a higher boot.  My calves get cold.  But everything covered by the boot is RIDICULOUSLY warm, the tread is awesome, and they are 100% waterproof.

I thought the same thing. But I just blame my SoCal residence.
  • I had heard that the Joans were heavy and stiff, which is why I went for the Tofinos. They're super warm and waterproof, although we haven't gotten more than a few inches of snow yet. And they flex more like a tennis shoe, which I like, while still being really grippy.

  • I have the Caribou (bit stiff but break in fast) for snowmobiling and my feet never get cold.. and the Crazy Cable Knit wedge in gray that are my FAVORITE boots! I wear them with jeans or skirts and tights and both of mine are so comfy!

  • Yeah, we currently live in Manhattan. My walk to the subway is only a couple blocks so I can get away with less wintery winter boots. But now that we are moving to the burbs, it is a longer walk to the train and I think they are less prompt about snow/ice clearance.

H an I both actually decided this week (after a few trips to the new house) that new boots were in order.

Sweet baby Jesus in a manger, those are beautiful boots.
